Changes in coal seam hardness cause fluctuations in the feed resistance at the drill bit during the drilling process, leading to unstable feeding speed. This paper proposes a robust dynamic output feedback controller to suppress disturbances caused by the variations in coal seam hardness in the feed system. Firstly, an unknown parameter measuring coal seam hardness is introduced, and an uncertain model of the feeding system is established based on the finite element model of the drill string. By designing weighted functions based on industrial field requirements and constructing a generalized plant, the controller achieves loop shaping, reducing the low-frequency impact of coal seam hardness variations on the feed system and suppressing the systems resonance peak. Simulation results demonstrate that the controller effectively suppresses parameter variations and external disturbances caused by changes in coal seam hardness, achieving stable control of the drilling speed.

We propose a digital twin-assisted adaptive preloading scheme to reduce bandwidth waste as well as enhance user quality of experience (QoE) for short video streaming. Though preloading video content can reduce rebuffering and improve user QoE, non-sequential playback of short videos induced by user swipe can result in substantial bandwidth wastage in mobile networks. To tackle this problem, we first model the short video streaming system and carry out preloading threshold analysis. We then construct a digital twin-assisted adaptive preloading framework for short video streaming. By collecting and analyzing the user's historical throughput and tracking swipe timing information, a throughput prediction model and a probabilistic model can be constructed to accurately predict future throughput and user swipe behavior, respectively. Utilizing the predicted information and real-time running status data from a short video application, we design a preloading strategy to enhance bandwidth efficiency while achieving high user QoE. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme compared with the state-of-the-art schemes.

An application of engineered materials to control electromagnetic waves and shield devices to maintain antenna parameters in a highly scattering multiple-antenna environment is shown. In a multiple-antenna environment, where each antenna operates at different frequencies, the scattering effects can be significantly reduced by enclosing an individual antenna with an engineered electromagnetic structure operating at a wavelength higher than the source. Numerical simulations are performed in COMSOL Multiphysics to demonstrate the success of the proposed shielding technique involving two 2D line-dipole antennas and a cylindrical enclosure of engineered EM materials at microwave frequencies. © 2022 IEEE.

Modular composition of systems through defined input/output interfaces is a wide-spread engineering approach that allows to make the design of complicated systems tractable. Although this approach has percolated to the design of synthetic genetic circuits, it has proved challenging to obtain predictable design outcomes. In particular, context-dependence due to sharing a limited pool of cellular resources is a major factor that confounds modular composition of genetic modules. Here, we propose the use of a systems framework in which resource sharing among different subsystems is explicitly modeled through disturbance inputs and outputs. Within this system description, resource sharing results in undesired connectivity among subsystems, which is explicitly accounted for in design. Accordingly, we propose to use this system framework to co-design stable systems, with constant input, based on steady state specifications that each subsystem should satisfy. To this end, we provide sufficient conditions on the system parameters such that the output of each subsystem in the network remains in a small interval around a desired value, as well as an algorithmic procedure to compute the feasible region for these parameters. In general, this framework can be used to design subsystems to satisfy a specification, while explicitly accounting for context-dependence.

As the adoption for electric vehicles (EV) increases, the need for proper charging infrastructure also increases. As such, it is necessary to ensure proper charging infrastructure to meet the charging demand. Hence, studies concerning the planning of EV charging stations which include the sizing of distributed energy resources (DERs) in the station to reduce the peak demand on the grid. In this paper, EV charging stations were designed keeping in mind factors such as the EV charging load profile (on demand charging versus deferred charging), uncertainties in the load profile as well as the tariff rates. A sensitivity analysis was also carried out in order to examine the impact of several techno-economic parameters on the overall cost of the system.

Wearable sensors have been rapidly developed for application in various human monitoring ***,the wearing comfort and thermal properties of these devices have been largely ignored,and these characteristics urgently need to be ***,we develop a wearable and breathable nanofiber-based sensor with excellent thermal management functionality based on passive heat preservation and active Joule heating *** multifunctional device consists of a micropatterned carbon nanotube(CNT)/thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU)nanofiber electrode,a microporous ionic aerogel electrolyte and a microstructured Ag/TPU nanofiber *** to the presence of a supercapacitive sensing mechanism and the appli-cation of microstructuration,the sensor shows excellent sensing performance,with a sensitivity of 24.62 ***,due to the overall porous structure and hydrophobicity of TPU,the sensor shows good breathability(62 mm/s)and water repellency,with a water contact angle of 151.2°.In addition,effective passive heat preservation is achieved by combining CNTs with high solar absorption rates(85%)as the top layer facing the outside,aerogel with a low thermal conductivity(0.063 W m-1 k-1)as the middle layer for thermal insulation,and Ag with a high infrared reflectance rate as the bottom layer facing the *** warming,this material yields a higher temperature than ***,the active Joule heat-ing effect is realized by applying current through the bottom resistive electrode,which can quickly increase the temperature to supply controlled warming on *** proposed wearable and breathable sensor with tunable thermal properties is promising for monitoring and heat therapy applications in cold environments.

Learning Multi-Robot Coordination through Locality-Based Factorized Multi-Agent Actor-Critic Algorithm

In this work, we present a novel cooperative multiagent reinforcement learning method called Locality based Factorized Multi-Agent Actor-Critic (Loc-FACMAC). Existing state-of-the-art algorithms, such as FACMAC, rely on global reward information, which may not accurately reflect the quality of individual robots’ actions in decentralized systems. We integrate the concept of locality into critic learning, where strongly related robots form partitions during training. Robots within the same partition have a greater impact on each other, leading to more precise policy evaluation. Additionally, we construct a dependency graph to capture the relationships between robots, facilitating the partitioning process. This approach mitigates the curse of dimensionality and prevents robots from using irrelevant information. Our method improves existing algorithms by focusing on local rewards and leveraging partition-based learning to enhance training efficiency and performance. We evaluate the performance of Loc-FACMAC in three environments: Hallway, Multi-cartpole, and Bounded-Cooperative-Navigation. We explore the impact of partition sizes on the performance and compare the result with baseline MARL algorithms such as LOMAQ, FACMAC, and QMIX. The experiments reveal that, if the locality structure is defined properly, Loc-FACMAC outperforms these baseline algorithms up to 108%, indicating that exploiting the locality structure in the actor-critic framework improves the MARL performance.
