With the high integration of power electronic technologies in microgrids,the reliability assessment considering power electronic devices has become a hot ***,so far no research has considered the impact of the operation failure probability of power electronic equipment on the overall reliability of the *** paper aims to construct a holistic operation failure rate model of power electronic systems based on the overall reliability assessment of islanded microgrid with high penetration of renewable energy sources(RESs).In addition,to improve the reliability of islanded microgrid,the conventional battery energy storage system(BESS)is replaced by the hybrid energy storage system(HESS).Based on the proposed model,the operation failure models for the power electronic modules in microgrid are built and tested,and then the sensitivity analysis is performed for exploring the influence of various factors on the reliability of the microgrid.

Passive metal reflectors for communication enhancement have appealing advantages such as ultra low cost, zero energy expenditure, maintenance-free operation, long life span, and full compatibility with legacy wireless systems. To unleash the full potential of passive reflectors for wireless communications, this paper proposes a new passive reflector architecture, termed flexible reflector (FR), for enabling the flexible adjustment of beamforming direction via the FR placement and rotation optimization. We consider the multi-FR aided area coverage enhancement and aim to maximize the minimum expected receive power over all locations within the target coverage area, by jointly optimizing the placement positions and rotation angles of multiple FRs. To gain useful insights, the special case of movable reflector (MR) with fixed rotation is first studied to maximize the expected receive power at a target location, where the optimal single-MR placement positions for electrically large and small reflectors are derived in closed-form, respectively. It is shown that the reflector should be placed at the specular reflection point for electrically large reflector. While for area coverage enhancement, the optimal placement is obtained for the single-MR case and a sequential placement algorithm is proposed for the multi-MR case. Moreover, for the general case of FR, joint placement and rotation design is considered for the single-/multiFR aided coverage enhancement, respectively. Numerical results are presented which demonstrate significant performance gains of FRs over various benchmark schemes under different practical setups in terms of receive power enhancement. Recent developments in autonomous vehicle technologies and applications gain a lot of interest by the public, as the popularity of both driver assistance and automated driving systems increase. One of the most promising aspect of the autonomous vehicle compared to conventional human driven vehicle is the increased level of safety. Machine learning techniques enables to achieve fast and efficient control actions compared to model based techniques. However, the advantages of a more conservative model based controller are their better robustness properties. In this paper a synergy of the two control philosophy is presented through a trajectory tracking control design for autonomous vehicles. A supervised reinforcement learning (RL) control method is introduced, where a robust Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) controller supervises the operation of the trained RL agent. Thus, in case sensor noise is detected, the guaranteed stability LPV controller takes over the steering control action. In order to demonstrate the operation of the proposed method, three different simulations have been evaluated and compared in CarSim simulation environment.

Perceptual quality assessment has always been challenging due to the difficulty in modeling the no-linear human visual system. With the diversity in the contents of multimedia signals, the conventional methods for traditional media seems no longer satisfying. One of these emerging media, is the screen content images/videos (SCINs), Containing texts and computer generated graphics, SCVs cannot be sufficiently expressed with features designed for natural sceneries. Therefore, new researches tried to devise objective quality assessment metrics, specificly for screen contents. Recently, a dataset was proposed for quality assessment of screen content videos. Since screen contents are full of structures that spread in cardinal directions, we were motivated to employ the horizontal and vertical subbands of the wavelet transform to characterize these types of visual contents. The features were incorporated in a full-reference method that showed promising results on the publicly available dataset for SCV quality assessment. Suitably tailored forms of spatiotemporal modulation in electronic circuit networks have been recently employed to overcome fundamental challenges in modern electronic systems, including breaking reciprocity, squeezing the footprint of high-Q resonators, and overcoming the delay-bandwidth limit. Rotating patterns of temporal modulations have been used to synthesize angular momentum, which replaces magnetic bias to break reciprocity in integrated circuits. However, this approach is limited by trade-offs between modulation speed, footprint, and bandwidth of operation. Rotating switching patterns in commutated capacitor networks also enables compact filters and quasielectrostatic wave propagation, overcoming the delay-bandwidth limit. In this paper, we combine these mechanisms in an integrated-circuit ring that synthetically rotates in two dimensions, realizing an effective helicoidal motion that provides ultrabroadband quasielectrostatic nonreciprocal responses fitting within a theoretically infinitesimal size. We also analyze the impact of modulation signal noise on time-modulated nonreciprocal components and unveil the role of a dynamic noise mechanism based on which the noise level increases in the presence of a strong signal passing through the component, along with methods to mitigate this effect. We experimentally verify these principles in a three-port integrated circulator based on a 65-nm CMOS process that operates from dc to 1 GHz with a miniaturization factor of 2 × 106.

This paper investigates the security-constrained bidding strategy of the emerging shared transportation hubs for renewable fuels and refined oil (STH-RRs) participating within energy, regulation and pipeline logistics markets. Firstly, to excavate more flexible capability for the power system as well as to increase the revenue of the STH-RR operation company, the model for STH-RR participating in regulation market is established. Secondly, the security-constrained two-stage bidding model is first proposed for STH-RRs to balance the revenue across energy, regulation and pipeline logistics markets. Particularly, to guarantee secure operation of STH-RRs and meet the delivery demand, the rigorous multi-product transportation constraints are considered in both stages. Case studies based on the modified real-world multi-product pipelines in South China validate the proposed method, with the revenue and turnover increase of 14% and 4.7%, respectively, compared with conventional methods.

Digital Twin-Assisted Adaptive Preloading for Short Video Streaming

We propose a digital twin-assisted adaptive preloading scheme to enhance bandwidth efficiency and user quality of experience (QoE) in short video streaming. We first analyze the relationship between the achievable throughput and video bitrate and critical factors that affect the preloading decision, including the buffer size and bitrate selection. We then construct a digital twin-assisted adaptive preloading framework for short video streaming. By collecting and analyzing user’s historical throughput and tracking behavior information, a throughput prediction model and a probabilistic model can be constructed to accurately predict future throughput and user behavior, respectively. Using the predicted information and real-time running status data from a short video application, we design a preloading strategy to enhance bandwidth efficiency while guaranteeing user QoE. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme comparing with the state-of-the-art preloading schemes. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

OBJECTIVES: Early diagnosis of triple-negative (TN) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 positive (HER2+) breast cancer is important due to its increased risk of micrometastatic spread necessitating early treatment and for guiding targeted therapies. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of machine learning (ML) classification of newly diagnosed breast masses into TN versus non-TN (NTN) and HER2+ versus HER2 negative (HER2-) breast cancer, using radiomic features extracted from grayscale ultrasound (US) b-mode images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective chart review identified 88 female patients who underwent diagnostic breast US imaging, had confirmation of invasive malignancy on pathology and receptor status determined on immunohistochemistry available. The patients were classified as TN, NTN, HER2+ or HER2- for ground-truth labelling. For image analysis, breast masses were manually segmented by a breast radiologist. Radiomic features were extracted per image and used for predictive modelling. Supervised ML classifiers included: logistic regression, k-nearest neighbour, and Naïve Bayes. Classification performance measures were calculated on an independent (unseen) test set. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity (%), and specificity (%) were reported for each classifier. RESULTS: The logistic regression classifier demonstrated the highest AUC: 0.824 (sensitivity: 81.8%, specificity: 74.2%) for the TN sub-group and 0.778 (sensitivity: 71.4%, specificity: 71.6%) for the HER2 sub-group. CONCLUSION: ML classifiers demonstrate high diagnostic accuracy in classifying TN versus NTN and HER2+ versus HER2- breast cancers using US images. Identification of more aggressive breast cancer subtypes early in the diagnostic process could help achieve better prognoses by prioritizing clinical referral and prompting adequate early treatment. © 2023 - IOS Press.
