The purpose of this research is to identify the risk of the precast façade procurement of buildings in Jakarta. In this study there are three phases, procurement planning, implementation of the procurement and procurement management. The stage refers to PMBOK (6th Edition). On the procurement of precast façade wall buildings there are several constraints that can be the cause of risk that affects the delay of the construction project. Therefore, the main problem in this research is to be able to know and identify the cause of the risk of precast façade wall procurement on high rise buildings in Jakarta and to know the precast façade wall character on Building. The results of this research are expected to be a reference in preventing and minimizing the risks that occur in precast façade wall procurement in high rise buildings in Jakarta. © 2020 Institute of Physics Publishing. Sustainable approach of applying previous treatment of tire wastes as raw material in cement composites: Review

Rubber as an elastomer is difficult to recycle due to the curing process that undergoes in its various applications, highlighting vulcanization. Tires, particularly, represent a significant amount in disposal of rubber, due to the automobile industry growing over the last decades. Several researchers have been studying its use on civil construction, and in concrete. The results obtained in the researches, with scrap tire rubber as received replacing the concrete constituents, indicated significant reductions in the compressive and flexural strengths, as well as in elasticity module. On the other hand, due to the high capacity of rubber to dissipate energy, rubberized concretes may be suitable for architectural application, false facades, stone baking, interior construction, in building as an earthquake shock wave absorber where resistance to impact or explosion is required and as roof top surfaces for insulation and waterproofing. Various studies highlighted the potential of rubberized concrete acting as a cushion due to its high impact resistance. The use of recycled rubber in Portland cement concrete is not technically successful as in asphalts mixtures due to the incompatibility issues caused by chemical composition and stiffness. After observing the drawbacks caused by the addition of rubber, researchers evaluated their causes, and the main reason was the poor adhesion between cement paste and rubber particle, due to the chemical difference in the polarity of the materials, that affects the cement hydration. Meanwhile, some authors are intended to perform some treatments on the rubber material to enhance the interfacial adhesion with cement hydration products and reduce or eliminate the negative effects while keeping the beneficial effects of waste rubber as an aggregate. Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and Digital Elevation Models (DEM) are important for obtaining the Index of Connectivity, as they provide valuable information to assess the possibility of sediments reaching the riverbed in watershed basins. This is crucial for proactive management, as it allows the adoption of preventive and mitigating measures. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of the spatial resolution of DEMs with resolutions of 5 m and 2 m, and between the DTM and DEM at 2 m, in determining the Index of Connectivity (IC). Additionally, it was investigated whether it is possible to use only one spatial resolution of digital models to assess the geospatial distribution of IC for all hydrogeomorphological landscapes of the Duas Bocas River watershed, located in the Metropolitan Region of Greater Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo, Southeast Brazil. For this study, the Borselli Index of Connectivity model (et al., 2008) was used, originally developed for rural areas of Italy and widely applied in different regions worldwide. The data used, including Digital Elevation and Terrain Models and land use and cover information, were obtained from the Integrated Geospatial Base System of the State of Espírito Santo (Brazil), which is publicly *** results indicate that a better geospatial representation of IC occurs when changing the spatial resolution of DEMs from a 5 m pixel to a 2 m pixel and when using the 2 m DTM instead of the 2 m DEM. When analyzing the relationship between IC and the hydrogeomorphological landscapes in the basin, it was observed that, in the absence of models with an even finer pixel resolution, the 2 m DTM is the most suitable option, as it presented IC values consistent within and between landscapes in the Escalated Terraces of Southern Espírito Santo, Coastal Hills and Massifs, and Coastal Plateaus sectors. During food processing, large amounts of waste are generated, which compromise the environment and society. The valorization of agri-food by-products has been investigated as a solution to obtain clean energy and value-added materials, improving food security and production profitability. This research focuses on the by-products of baru (Dipteryx alata Vog.) and monguba (Pachira aquatica Aubl.), discussing their applications and biotechnological perspectives. A critical review of the parameters related to the valorization of these by-products was conducted, using publications from 2013 to 2023, prioritizing studies that presented new knowledge. An increase in publications on the topic was observed starting in 2020, with Brazil leading, followed by India, Portugal, and Singapore. Although still underexplored, eight areas of knowledge were identified, with emphasis on food science and chemistry. Monguba lacks technological exploitation and economic value, while baru, despite being more documented, remains underutilized. Both fruits have fractions (epicarp, mesocarp, and endocarp) that are often considered waste but are of scientific interest. The mesocarp of baru is rich in proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and phenolic compounds with high antioxidant capacity. The by-products of baru and monguba can be used in the extraction of nutraceutical compounds, in the transformation into biomaterials for water impurity removal, in renewable energy production, in food enrichment, and as ingredients in animal feed, improving the quality of eggs and meat. The use of these by-products offers economic and environmental advantages, reducing contamination caused by the improper disposal of agro-industrial waste. It is essential to promote their commercial exploitation and potential applications. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Contamination of aquatic and terrestrial organisms by Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), emerging contaminants, is widespread, as these compounds are present in water, soil, air, and food, owing to their environmental persistence. PFAS exposure induces biochemical process alterations associated with the disruption of the antioxidant defense system in several species. This review aims to discuss how PFAS-induced antioxidant system alterations lead to changes in biochemical processes in different organisms exposed to these pollutants. This disruption, then leads to an imbalance in antioxidant defense systems, contributing to the formation of reactive oxidative species (ROS), which, in turn, can be exacerbate oxidative stress, induce cellular damage, enhance lipid peroxidation, destabilize lysosomal membranes, and cause genotoxic effects, ultimately compromising DNA integrity. In acute tests, PFAS have led to mortality, growth inhibition, diminished behavioral and locomotor abilities, and reproductive impairment. PFAS-induced effects differ with varying species or types of substances, and further bioaccumulation through food chains exacerbates environmental contamination, carrying considerable risks. These findings demonstrate the complex and enduring impact of PFAS on environmental health, emphasizing the importance of this review in corroborating studies on sub-lethal toxicity in exposed organisms and how these effects reflect on the environment. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Influence of the water/cement ratio (w/c) on the mechanical properties of rubberized cementitious composites

The recycling of waste tire rubber is characterized by the lack of proper techniques due to its cross-linked and complex chemical nature. Rubber has a slow rate of degradation due to its cross-linked structure. This causes environmental pollution and health risks (zika, dengue and chikungunya). One way of recycling waste tires is their crushing, generating crumbs and rubber powder, which can later be inserted with or without prior treatment into polymeric or cementitious matrices as recycled aggregate. Rubber as recycled aggregate can add to cement-based mixtures new properties derived from it, such as improving ductility, damping ratio and energy dissipation within the mixture. This work aims to study the influence of the water/cement ratio on the mechanical properties of cementitious composites with 15% tire rubber powder, through volumetric replacements by fine aggregate. Three w/c ratios were applied for the rubber and control mixtures, 0.52, 0.48 and 0.44. In case of conventional mortar, the compressive strength tends to increase with the reduction of the amount of water in the mixture due to the greater amount of cement to be added and greater packing of hydrated particles. The control mixture with a/c = 0.44 achieved an average strength 8.6% greater than that of a/c = 0.52. On the other hand, in case of rubberized mortar, by decreasing the w/c ratio in the presence of hydrophobic rubber, water does not easily migrate into the mixture, having as an obstacle the rubber particles, which, in turn, end up covering the anhydrous cement grains, decreasing the resistance. In addition to the ductile nature of rubber itself, which behaves as a void within the mixture nor transferring the load from one point to another, leading to faster cracking. Enhancement of adhesion properties between cement matrices and saturated substrates with asphalt mat by compatibilizing agents

Maintenance of construction elements is a necessary intervention action;preventive and corrective, which directly interferes with durability, lifetime performance. The same goes for reservoirs, where the waterproofing system makes it watertight, guaranteeing the potability of the stored water, an essential situation for the ideal conditions of an enterprise. The old projects have, mainly, waterproofing with asphalt blanket in their reservoirs, when entering the maintenance schedule to revitalize the waterproofing system, the companies adopt the application of cementitious waterproofing agents, such as Polymeric Mortar and Acrylic Polymer Membrane with cement, where they have chemical incompatibility that prevents good adherence to the substrate saturated with asphalt emulsion and asphalt mat traces. This work aims to determine the best method for creating bonding bridges between the standardized substrate covered with asphalt mat and the cementitious composite added with four different types of compatibilization agents applied in cement: sand: additive: water as 1:1:0.5:0 and 1:1:0.25:0.25. The additives are Epoxy primer for wet bases;Styrene-Butadiene emulsion (SBR);Vinyl copolymer and Acrylic-based emulsion. After curing, to guarantee the perforation of all applied layers in an integral and standardized way, three holes with an exact internal diameter were perforated for all the plates, with and without the agents, to perform the adhesive tensile test by a dynamometer. The results show that the adhesive strength of the asphalt mat on the substrate equals 0.2 MPa, limit of the related standard, was met by all plates. All mixtures showed an increase in the adhesion of the cementitious material to the asphalt mat, when the additive concentration is increased. Only plates with Vinyl-0.50, SBR-0.50, Acrylic-0.25 and Acrylic-0.50 registered average strengths greater than 0.50 MPa, the minimum requirement of the related standard, and higher than the REF plate by 36%, 16%

This study seeks to understand and estimate atmospheric longwave irradiance (R_ld) and surface net radiation (R_n) using parameterized models applied to semi-arid regions of northeastern Brazil. Studies on surface energy flows are of interest to areas such as environmental and agricultural sciences, and are of great importance in analyzing and managing water resources. Thus, this research could benefit the study region, which constantly experiences periods of water scarcity that affect agricultural activities and the lives of communities. An exploration of data gathered from micrometeorological stations spanning the period from 2014 to 2016 within various caatinga vegetation areas exhibiting distinct levels of preservation. This exploration involved comparative analyses between methods available in existing literature and those proposed by the authors. The biome under study is unique to Brazil and remains relatively underexplored in terms of comprehensive research and studies. In the R_ld analysis, parameterizations for days with clear and cloudy skies were considered, and the proposed models presented results that surpassed the results of most of the tested models in the literature. Among the models examined, the Crawford and Duchon (1999) model displayed remarkable efficiency in estimating R_ld within the study area. Furthermore, the models were fine-tuned to estimate the surface R_n for the respective areas of each micrometeorological station. These calibrations factored in both dry and rainy seasons for the R_n analyses. The calibration results were satisfactory, with r² values for the proposed models greater than 0.90 for R_ld for clear sky conditions and 0.94 for all conditions, and a high agreement was shown with values greater than 0.96 according to the criteria of Willmott et al. Flamingos use their L-shaped beak and morphing feet to induce vortical traps for prey capture

Flamingos feature one of the most sophisticated filter-feeding systems among birds, characterized by upside-down feeding, comb-like lamellae, and a piston-like tongue. However, the hydrodynamic functions of their L-shaped chattering beak, S-curved neck, and distinct behaviors such as stomping and feeding against the flow remain a mystery. Combining live flamingo experiments with live brine shrimp and passive particles, bioinspired physical models, and 3D CFD simulations, we show that flamingos generate self-induced vortical traps using their heads, beaks, and feet to capture agile planktonic prey in harsh fluid environments. When retracting their heads rapidly (~40 cm/s), flamingos generate tornado-like vortices that stir up and upwell bottom sediments and live shrimp aided by their L-shaped beak. Remarkably, they also induce directional flows (~7 cm/s) through asymmetric beak chattering underwater (~12 Hz). Their morphing feet create horizontal eddies during stomping, lifting, and concentrating sediments and brine shrimp, while trapping fast-swimming invertebrates, as confirmed by using a 3D-printed morphing foot model. During interfacial skimming, flamingos produce a vortical recirculation zone at the beak's tip, aiding in prey capture. Experiments using a flamingo-inspired particle collection system indicate that beak chattering improves capture rates by ~7×. These findings offer design principles for bioinspired particle collection systems that may be applied to remove pollutants and harmful microorganisms from water bodies.
