a native of Michigan received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Michigan Technological University in 1951 after which he began his career with the Bureau of Ships in the Machinery Design Branch on noise shock and vibration problems. He was project engineer for the axial flow pumpjet development on USS Witek (DD848) and USS Glover (AGDE1) and received his Master of Engineering Degree in Naval Architecture in 1964 from the University of California Berkeley. Mr. Berg is currently acting head of the Ship Performance and Trials Section of the Propulsion Systems Analysis Branch in the Naval Ship Engineering Center. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 1962 for contributions to the design of the USS Thresher (SSN593) and was awarded the Superior Performance Award for Outstanding Performance in 1966. a native of Pennsylvania received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1939. Upon graduation he was employed for one year with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways as a construction engineer. In July 1940 he became a Marine Engineer at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where after a period of apprenticeship and special training in this new field he was assigned to the Machinery Scientific Group of the Design Division. Then in October 1945 he was transferred to the Design Division of the Bureau of Ships. Mr. Marron is now a Project Coordinator in the Propulsion Power and Auxiliary Systems Division of the Naval Ship Engineering Center. Walter S. Jones
a native of Virginia graduated from the George Washington University with a BME in June 1958. From July of that year through June 1965 he served with the Machinery Design Branch of the Bureau of Ships where he was Project Engineer for the Hydroneu-matic Ram Jet and Water jet Propulsion Systems. Mr. Jones is currently the Machinery Coordinator for the Computer Aided Ship Design Program in the Naval Ship Engineering Center.

Naval Ship Engineering Center of the Dept. of the Navy with the responsibility for hull structural design of surface ships and submarines and for planning initiating and technically monitoring research in the field of structural mechanics. Mr. Vasta attended New York University receiving the Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1930 and took postgraduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology receiving the Master of Science degree in 1931. He worked in the Structural Mechanics Group of the U. S. Experimental Model Basin from 1931 to 1938. After a short duty at the Headquarters of the U. S. Coast Guard he joined the U. S. Maritime Commission where between 1939 and 1948 he held various positions of responsibility in the Technical Division. Subsequently he joined the former Bureau of Ships first as Head of the Scientific and Research Section from 1948 to 1964 and later as Assistant Chief Naval Architect for Engineering Sciences in the Naval Ship Engineering Center from 1965 to 1966. Mr. Vasta is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineering and of the American Welding Society and is active in many research panels and committees including the Ship Structure Committee and panels in the Welding Research Council. He is chairman of the Hull Structures Committee of the Society of Naval Architects and chairman of the “Fatigue” panel of the International Ship Structure Congress. Mr. Pohler is Head of the Submarine Structural Mechanics Unit

Report of study on stresses in hatches, windows, and adjacent regions in penetrated spheres under external pressure for use in deep submergence structures, using three-dimensional photoelasticity;stress distributions from conical hatches and windows are compared with available results obtained from testing of models and prototype bathyspheres, and conclusions are developed relating to strength and design of hatches and windows;results obtained from pressurizing small conical windows under constant long-term loading, as preliminary index of tendency of plexiglas windows to creep in service, are included.

Commander D'Emidio received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering (1951) and a Master of Science degree in Sanitation Engineering from the University of Michigan (1960). He was employed as a Sanitary Engineer Designer for the Architect/Engineer firm of Porter Urquhart-Skidmore Owings and Merrill in North Africa. After completing Officer Candidate School in 1953 Commander D'Emidio served in the Public Works Department of the Naval Air Material Center Philadelphia Pennsylvania. In 1957 he became Officer in Charge of Construction for three U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command Bases in Spain. After successful tours of duty as Public Works Officer Naval Air Station Columbus Ohio and Technical Department Officer Construction Battalion Center Davisville Rhode Island he was assigned to the Naval Nuclear Power Division of Naval Facilities Engineering Command. In this capacity he assisted in the procurement and shipment of the Navy's first nuclear power plant which was installed by Seabees at McMurdo Sound Antartica in 1962. Later that year he became Civil Engineer Corps Advisor to the Brazilian Navy where he assisted in the design of a carrier-sized dry dock. In 1965 he returned to the Naval Facilities Engineering Command to establish the Navy's first Comprehensive Air and Water Pollution Abatement Program. During this tour of duty he successfully defended the Navy's Pollution Abatement Program through the Congress. Commander D'Emidio is a licensed Professional Engineer in the states of New Jersey and Ohio and is a Diplomat in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers the Society of Military Engineers and the American Public Works Association. Commander D'Emidio is assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations where he is the Director of the Navy Environmental Protection Division.

SINGERMAN, HAROLD H.KINNEY, EDWARD T.Mr. H. H. Singerman is Head of the Fluid Processes Branch of the Annapolis Division of the Naval Ship Research and Development Center. A native of Massachusetts
he has been at the Center since 1951. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University and is a degree candidate for Master of Public Administration (Technology of Management) at the American University. His group is responsible for Research and Development in such diverse fields as life support in nuclear submarines analytical chemistry water treatment and control and shipboard sewage systems. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Mr. E. T. Kinney
a native of Grand Rapids Michigan earned his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University in 1952. After a brief stint as an assistant county engineer in Michigan he began his career with the Bureau of Ships as a Naval Architect in the Hull Design Training Program in September 1952. Mr. Kinney is currently a Project Coordinator in the Propulsion Power and Auxiliary Systems Division (SEC 6151) of NAVSEC where he is responsible for auxiliary and landing ships deep submersible vehicles and the NAVSEC Environmental Pollution Control Program. He is a member of the board of directors of the Federal Conference of Sanitary Engineers Panel M-17 of SNAME and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.
