Buildings are relevant electricity consumers, and projections of increased demand until 2040, leading to the necessary actions aimed at energy efficiency, consumption reduction, and the transition to a renewable energy matrix. The 2030 Agenda addresses these subjects, and this context is inserted in the concept of Netzero Energy Buildings (NZEB). The concept combines consumption reduction and its compensation with renewable energy. The main objective of this present study is to establish an overview of NZEB in Brazil and to identify the strategies adopted by these buildings. A survey of strategies was carried out based on the buildings certified by the Green Building Council Brazil, available on the companies, designers, and contractors’ websites. In Brazil, there are 75 buildings in the certification process, and 21 have already proven their self-sufficiency, evidencing the use of solutions to reduce consumption, such as lighting and efficient equipment and passive architecture strategies. The research has identified the photovoltaic solar energy predominance as a strategy for NZEB. Brazil presents a favorable scenario for the NZEBs expansion due to climatic characteristics and public policies that contribute to meeting the Sustainable Development Goal 7, objectives scenario that is sub-exploited nowadays. © 2023, The Authors. Analytical model of retrofitted reinforced concrete beam column joints after experiencing severe damage from earthquake load simulation using SAP2000

An earthquake resistant structure should be able to perform as expected when it's struck by an earthquake such as it may experience slight damage and should be able to be repaired to its original state when struck by a design level earthquake. However, there are still debates whether reparation should also be viable when structures are experiencing severe damage. There are still a little to no studies about repairing severely damaged structures, therefore a study was made to see how severely damaged structures behaved after being repaired. Two beam column joints are used as specimens, which were severely damaged by an earthquake simulation before getting repaired. Both their initial and repaired condition are then modeled analytically using SAP2000. Their behaviors such as plastic hinges, joint's shear deformation, bond slip, and rebars' residual strain and stress due to previous loading are also implemented to the model. Although the lateral strength of the specimens are similar to their analytical model, the other behavior, especially their stiffness is not similar, therefore needing another parameter implemented in the model.

The effect of using crumb rubber on fatigue and rutting lives in flexible pavement

This research is performed to analyze effect of using crumb rubber (CR) on the overlay design of Palembang City – Betung roads. Analysis of existing road conditions using the AASHTO 1993. This analysis based on deflection data using the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). While, the overlay design analysis using CIRCLY 7.0 software to determine horizontal tensile strain (εh) for fatigue live and vertical compressive strain (εv) for rutting live parameters. The result showed that using CR can increase fatigue live into 66 % and rutting lives into 22 % for contribute pavement performance. To ensure the effect of CR in pavement's performance, further research must be taken to find out if there are other effects that support.

Comparative study of asphalt concrete characteristic between ideal gradation and laboratory tested gradation with crumb rubber

Modifying asphalt concrete with using Crumb Rubber (CR) can provide environmental benefits. The method used in this study is an experimental laboratory with Mashall machine. The tests used two types of gradation, namely the gradations of Ideal and Laboratory Test. CR used in a mixture with a dry process method to replacement 0%, 5%, 15% and 20% of the weight aggregate at fraction No. 30 (0.6 mm). The results showed that the Ideal gradation mixture has a better characteristic than the mixture of laboratory tested gradations. Ideal gradations can increased stability into 10% from Laboratory Test gradations for mixture without CR. Addition of CR contect in AC mixture did not significantly effect for the characteristics. To ensure the effect of CR in mixture, further test must be taken.

The stainless steel employed in the structural elements present high corrosion resistance, durability, fire resistance and high aesthetic value compared to those constructed using carbon steel. In contrast, the stainless steel structures design is made following the requirements based on the carbon steel analogies. In fact, the structural performance of stainless steel is complex and dissimilar where some stainless grades presenting nonlinear tension versus strain curves without a defined yield plateau and large strain hardening. These properties influence on structural performance of the lap bolted joints. The Eurocode 3 pt. 1.4, one of the most adopted design codes, recommends two structural design criteria for the stainless steel elements under tension: ultimate resistance of the net cross-section at holes or plastic resistance of the gross cross-section. The present work aimed to investigate the structural response of lap bolted joints made of three stainless steel grades: austenitic, ferritic and duplex. Nonlinear numerical analyses has been carried out using ABAQUS 6.14 program where the response have shown a good agreement in terms of the maximum loads and failure modes when compared to the performed experiments. The results indicated a conservative level of safety from Eurocode 3 pt. 1.4 code provisions in comparison to the experimental results.

The Effect of EPS Addition to Soil Stabilized with Fly Ash as Lightweight Fill Materials for Embankment Construction

Design and construction of road embankment presents several challenges, including the possibility of bearing capacity failure, large total settlement, differential settlement, and slope instability, which may result from the weight of the embankment construction itself, and/or weak foundation. A number of techniques have been developed and can be used to overcome these problems, one of them is by modifying the weight of the embankment itself with the use of lightweight materials, such as soil-EPS mixture. The use of soil-EPS mixture as lightweight material provides several advantages, among which can achieve the same volume or elevation requirement with a significantly lighter weight compared to ordinary materials, improving slope stability, embankment over high compressibility soil, and to reduce soil pressure to soil retaining structures, abutment or bridge pillar. Fly ash also added to act as binder to increase shear strength of mixture. The result of the compaction test shows that the addition of a small amount of EPS to the mixture can significantly reduce the maximum dry density of the mixture. Triaxial UU and UCS test results show a reduction in mixture strength as EPS contents increase, but due to the presence of fly ash increases the strength of mixture as the number of day increases, so that the use of lightweight materials has the potential to be one of soil improvement solutions.

Determination of the bridge maintenance and rehabilitation priority scale in kabupaten Pinrang

This study attempts to get the support system to help stakeholders and the decision makers in the determination of priorities the maintenance and rehabilitation of the *** location of the study is done in Kabupaten Pinrang. Bridge damage value is specified using assessment standard Bridge Management System (BMS). There are 13 Bridges by details as follows: good condition with the condition 1 in 6 Bridge, damaged with the condition two as many as five fruit Bridges and there are two Bridges by value condition of three which means need handling rehabilitation. From our observation examination Bridges and it has been obtained the results of then afterward determined the priority scale by using the method Analytic Hierarchy Process. The discussion or interview of 27 respondents in completion question to determines the priorities of handling bridges by three (3) criteria and three sub- criteria with weights each: a condition of damage with weights 0,491 or amounting to 49,1 % followed by criteria policy with weights 0,324 % then criteria volume traffic weight of 0,185 or 18.5 %. Based on the results of this can be concluded that the implementation of a method of Analytic Hierarchy Processing is effective in determining the scale of priorities for the stakeholders. Having acquired value bridge condition and weights of the assessment results of the, then is needed to Analysis of spatial use application ArcGIS to obtain information condition Bridge Map.

Employing Galerkin method and field study for model calibration to perform sediment transport modelling in Agathis Lake, Universitas Indonesia

The increasing of urban development and the decreasing of public awareness to environment promote flood every year for urban cities. Several lakes or ponds are sacrificed due to both urban development and landfilling. Bad habit of society to throw garbage to the lakes affects the society to think that the economic value of lakes could be increased by filling them with the land. These lead to make the lakes become vulnerable to sedimentation from urban activities. Universitas Indonesia as educational institution starts to develop how to manage sedimentation by hydrodynamics and sediment transport modelling. The research uses Resources Modelling Associates (RMA) program to run the model and Agathis Lake as the study area to perform the simulation. It is expected that the program output data could represent the field data, so the validation method should be conducted. The issue to validate the data would be problematic if simulation factors data could not accommodate real-world observed data. This study aims to employ Galerkin method to understand finite element method in Resources Modelling Associates program (RMA) in order to avoid black box when using it and to conduct a field study to perform calibration method of sediment transport modelling in the study area, Agathis Lake that is located in Universitas Indonesia.

Energy efficiency evaluation of hospital building office

One of the strategy employed in building design is reducing energy consumption while maintaining the best comfort zone in building indoor climate. The first step to improve office buildings energy performance by evaluating its existing energy usage using energy consumption intensity (Intensitas Konsumsi Energi, IKE) index. Energy evaluation of office building for hospital dr. Sayidiman at Kabupaten Magetan has been carried out in the initial investigation. The office building is operated with active cooling (air conditioning, AC) and use limited daylighting which consumes 14.61 kWh/m2/month. This IKE value is attributed into a slightly inefficient category. Further investigation was carried out by modeling and simulating thermal energy load and room lighting in every building zone using of Ecotect from Autodesk. Three scenarios of building energy and lighting retrofit have been performed simulating representing energy efficiency using cross ventilation, room openings, and passive cooling. The results of the numerical simulation indicate that the third scenario by employing additional windows, reflector media and skylight exhibit the best result and in accordance with SNI 03-6575-2001 lighting standard. Total thermal load of the existing building which includes fabric gains, indirect solar gains, direct solar gains, ventilation fans, internal gains, inter-zonal gains and cooling load were 162,145.40 kWh. Based on the three scenarios, the thermal load value (kWh) obtained was lowest achieved scenario 2 with the thermal value of 117,539.08 *** final results are interpreted from the total energy emissions evaluated using the Ecotect software, the heating and cooling demand value and specific design of the windows are important factors to determine the energy efficiency of the buildings.

The transport sector is pivotal in fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability. Extensive research has scrutinized various transportation modes individually, yet a holistic assessment encompassing all modes while considering CO2 emissions needs to be more conspicuously present. Our study employs Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to evaluate the efficacy of transportation policies in South American nations in the context of United Nations-established sustainable development goals. Our overarching objective is to classify the sustainability status of South American countries' transport sectors and to establish benchmark models rooted in the six dimensions of sustainability. Methodologically, our analysis integrates operational transportation metrics, Gross Domestic Product per capita, Human Development Index, and CO2 emissions from transportation systems. Additionally, we draw comparative insights by juxtaposing South American countries against the G8 and BRICS nations. The rigorous application of DEA coupled with bootstrap validation fortifies the reliability of our findings. Our results bring to light these findings, positioning South American countries closer to their developed counterparts. Notably, the sustainable development models of Chile and Uruguay emerge as prominent exemplars. This study underscores the pressing demand for holistic and integrated development strategies to attain more sustainable outcomes across South American nations in a faster way. In conclusion, our research fills a conspicuous void in the extant literature by furnishing a comprehensive evaluation of transportation policy performance in South America. Based on a robust methodology, this empirical evidence offers valuable insights for policymakers striving to advance sustainable regional development.
