This research explores the impact of blockchain-based financing strategies on the coffee supply chain, focusing on improving financial procedures, increasing transparency, and refining supply chain management methodologies. Implementing blockchain technology in the supply chain leads to a more efficient, secure, and collaborative financial system in the coffee industry. Our study categorizes existing research into four stages: summarization, synthesis, comparison, and critique. Findings indicate that blockchain integration can significantly address transparency, fair trade, and trust issues within coffee supply chains. This paper proposes modifications to existing models better to fit the unique requirements of coffee supply chain processes, highlighting areas for future research.

The Langat River Basin in Malaysia is vulnerable to soil erosion risks because of its exposure to intensive land use activities and its topography,which primarily consists of steep slopes and mountainous ***,climate change frequently exposes this basin to drought,which negatively affects soil and water ***,recent studies have rarely shown how soil reacts to drought,such as soil ***,the purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between drought and soil erosion in the Langat River *** analyzed drought indices using Landsat 8 satellite images in November 2021,and created the normalized differential water index(NDWI)via Landsat 8 data to produce a drought *** used the revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE)model to predict soil *** verified an association between the NDWI and soil erosion data using a correlation *** results revealed that the southern and northern regions of the study area experienced drought *** predicted an average annual soil erosion of approximately 58.11 t/(hm^(2)·a).Analysis of the association between the NDWI and soil erosion revealed a strong positive correlation,with a Pearson correlation coefficient of *** assumed that the slope length and steepness factor was the primary contributor to soil erosion in the study *** a result,these findings can help authorities plan effective measures to reduce the impacts of drought and soil erosion in the future.

The theory of constraints thinking process, created by Israeli physicist Eliyahu M. Goldratt, has emerged as a tool for achieving competitive advantage. Many researches also focused on the application of lean thinking developed by Toyota and proposed by Ohno. This philosophy has been proven to be effective in several production processes. This paper aims to propose a method of problem solving through the integration of theory of constraints thinking process and the principles of lean production. As a tool for problem identification, the method defends the use of current reality tree and, to solve problems, the lean thinking tools, proposed by Picchi. The developed method was implemented in a contractor. The research methodology was research-action. Among the results, there was a realistic diagnosis about the core problems in company. According to this, the core problem of the contractor is “the lack of commitment of manpower” that results in the main problem “the financial loss”. The principle of perfection was verbalized as a proposal to solve the problems and the tools to be implemented for solving problems were “commitment of senior management to employees” and “simplicity in communication”.

Indonesia’s high Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and İnfant Mortality Rate (IMR) are major health concerns. In Indonesia’s 2020, MMR was 199/100,000 live births, exceeding the 2015–2030 global target of 70/100,000. Geographic Information Systems (GISs) maternal and infant health are useful in mapping and evaluating pregnant women’s locations to determine health facility access. This study aimed to describe the use of GIS to map pregnant women, risky pregnant women, and the distance to the nearest health facility in a remote rural Indonesian area. The study used descriptive quantitative surveying. This study focused on rural pregnant women in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi. The sampling method used the total population. This study uses ArcGIS to find coordinates points using latitude and longitude points. Descriptive analysis to be used maps pregnant women’s risk of accessing health facilities. Results this research, using GIS to map pregnant women, especially high-risk ones, to shelters and health facilities found 47.7% have a risk of pregnancy, 34.9% get to the hospital in 50–60 min, and 1.1% above 60 min. GIS mapping in rural pregnant women can monitor high-risk pregnancies, but it must be enhanced continuously. GIS in health, especially for mothers and children, can help the government present health equality policies by estimating distance and time to access health facilities, especially in specific geographic locations, with decreased MMR and improving maternal and child health. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The outlook concerning the occurrence of industrial accidents has led to the implementation of response systems based on geoprocessing tools, which are widely adopted in emergency for such ventures, since they have helped and served as a support for decision making, as well as for the preparation of guidelines aimed at managing emergencies. Nuclear power plants, because they constitute types of industrial activities that present dangerous conditions and attention regarding security are characterized as hazardous, especially due to consequences that occurred from large accidents— such as Chernobyl (1986) and Fukushima (2011)—highlighting the importance to its negative impacts, since the occurrence of accidents at nuclear power plants may affect surrounding areas, thus exposing a set of elements that are part of the environmental dynamics that integrates the catchment area where this type of plant is situated. In this way, through an integrated view of the region where the nuclear complex is located in Angra dos Reis City (Rio de Janeiro State) and, also, by aggregating information that portray the geobiophysical reality of its surroundings, several elements were incorporated into a database developed in a virtual environment, in which was produced a geographic information system (GIS) that presents a complex of variables that, once considered, can enhance various analysis in order to support emergency situations and planning, as well as guidelines that help define actions from the occurrence of accidental events at the nuclear plant.

The use of stainless steel as formwork for concrete columns provides several benefits for the structure, including the high corrosion resistance, durability, fire resistance, ease of maintenance and high aesthetic value. The use of composite systems in columns has been a major breakthrough in bridges and viaducts. A particular advantage of the composite columns is the reduction of cross sectional area, speed of construction, easy maintenance and material saving when compared to conventional reinforced concrete structures. These advantages are related to the idea that the columns are concrete filled eliminating the use of forms and the need for extra steel reinforcing bars. The investigated system adopts a second carbon steel tube inside the primary stainless steel tube composing the structural system made of concrete-filled double skin composite tube columns (CFDSCT). This study aims to develop numerical models, using the finite element method and considering geometric imperfections. The structural behaviour was assessed through a nonlinear analysis and was later compared to compressive tests performed in the laboratory. After the completion of the numerical models calibration, a parametric analysis was performed to investigate the influence of parameters like the diameter, thickness and height of the stainless steel tube (outer) while its results were also compared to predictions made by traditional design equations. © Ernst & Sohn Verlag für Architektur und technische Wissenschaften GmbH & Co. Structural performance of stainless lap bolted joints

The stainless steel employed in the structural elements present high corrosion resistance, durability, fire resistance and high aesthetic value compared to those constructed using carbon steel. In contrast, the stainless steel structures design is made following the requirements based on the carbon steel analogies. In fact, the structural performance of stainless steel is complex and dissimilar where some stainless grades presenting nonlinear tension versus strain curves without a defined yield plateau and large strain hardening. These properties influence on structural performance of the lap bolted joints. The Eurocode 3 pt. 1.4, one of the most adopted design codes, recommends two structural design criteria for the stainless steel elements under tension: ultimate resistance of the net cross-section at holes or plastic resistance of the gross cross-section. The present work aimed to investigate the structural response of lap bolted joints made of three stainless steel grades: austenitic, ferritic and duplex. Nonlinear numerical analyses has been carried out using ABAQUS 6.14 program where the response have shown a good agreement in terms of the maximum loads and failure modes when compared to the performed experiments. The results indicated a conservative level of safety from Eurocode 3 pt. 1.4 code provisions in comparison to the experimental results. © 2017 Ernst & Sohn Verlag für Architektur und technische Wissenschaften GmbH & Co. Kinetic Behaviors and Nitrite Accumulation of Thiosulfate Autotrophic Denitrification Process

Exploration of the effects of different S/N ratios on the accumulation of NO2-N in the autotrophic denitrification process is crucial due to no need for an external organic carbon supply. Herein, thiosulfate-driven autotrophic denitrification (SADN) was established in a sequencing batch reactor treating nitrate-containing wastewater. The long-term and batch tests observed that when sufficient thiosulfate was present, the branched thiosulfate oxidation (BTO) reaction occured. Therefore, the sulfur-to-nitrogen (S/N) molar ratio had to be maintained over 2.19 to provide enough electron donors for complete denitrification with SNaRR of 13.13 mg NO3-N/g ***. If the S/N molar ratio declined to 1.75, some nitrite accumulation would utilize the stored elemental sulfur. SNiRR increased from 0.4 – 20.1 mg NO2-N/g *** when the S/N ratio rose from 1.46 to 4.38. Under a sufficient S/N ratio, the change in nitrogen concentration followed a zero order reaction. The microbial analysis identified Desulfobacterota as key microbes, with autotrophic denitrifying bacteria accounting for more than 70%. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Finite Element Modelling of Steel Beams with Web Openings

Height limitations are not uncommon in multi-storey buildings due to economic requirements and esthetical considerations. Substantial spaces are normally required to enable the passage of large pipes and ducts beneath steel beams leading to uneconomic floor heights. The most adopted solution for this issue is the use of steel beam web openings to provide the required space for services. These openings could lead to a significant decrease of the beam load carrying capacity depending on the adopted openings shape, size and location. These aspects motivated the present study based on FE simulations calibrated against numerical and test results. The results accuracy enabled a comprehensive parametric analysis of beams with web openings to be made focused on the profile size, web opening location, among others. The study also investigated the efficiency of longitudinal stiffeners welded at the opening region and benefits of using an adequate edge concordance radius in beams with rectangular and square openings. The obtained results showed the need of using welded longitudinal stiffeners in order to increase the beams ultimate load carrying capacity. This adoption can double or even triple the ultimate load of beams with rectangular and square opening heights equal to 0.75 H, respectively.

In the past few years, the consumption of resources has been massive, and the waste produced from that consumption has been inconceivable.
