Achieving open defecation free in Surabaya city by 2019

Achieving open defecation free (ODF) in Indonesia by 2019 is closely monitored by the Government of Indonesia (GoI) as it is targeted in the RPJMN (national mid-year term). This achievement is also targeted at Surabaya City as the second largest city in Indonesia. There are still 15.527 houses in Surabaya which do not have proper sanitation system or still practicing open defecation. This study is aimed to assess how ODF would be achieved in Surabaya by 2019; including what type of toilets are to be used. A household survey was conducted to locate and assess the condition of those houses. Survey results show that 12.772 houses still practice defecation in the open area. These houses comprise of legal and illegal houses which are 5.586 and 7.186, respectively. Priority is given to legal houses as they are manageable to be given toilet under Surabaya's regulation procedure. Based on the available technologies to construct sanitation system then there will be 2.833 individual septic tank, 419 communal septic tanks, 15 communal toilet with bathing and washing (MCK), 12 communal wastewater treatment, and 1 centralized system in Keputih Sub-district of Surabaya to be constructed to set free these legal houses from open defecation practices.

Green building incentive model during design recognition to ensure the reliability of green building operation and maintenance achievement

A low number in green building development cause the building construction will have an immense direct and indirect impact on future generations. This paper identified the optimum incentive model driving the building efficiency achievement in green building operation and maintenance. Critical factors that influence building consultant and contractor decision in green building design and construction toward the operation and maintenance achievement planned were analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) methods. Precisely, the study modelled the regional policy affecting building efficiency achievement in the developing country. This research already identified the way of green building stakeholders' operations and maintenance in the capital city of Indonesia. Quantitative method using case study analysis already validated for the questionnaire data. The PLS-SEM indicated that sustainable in green building implementation and sustainability has significant causal effects on the regional policy of building the life cycle. Among these factors, tax exemption, expedited permit, and floor to area ratio were significant. The regional policy indicators in green building implementation have the most significant effect on building efficiency achievement.

Role of green building developer and owner in sustainability construction: investigating the relationships between green building key success factors and incentives

Adaptation to the concept of sustainability is a problem in developing countries, especially in terms of the level of knowledge, economic capability, environmental conditions, and regional policies. These four aspects become exogenous variables in this study to examine the role of green building concepts in sustainable concepts in building construction. Qualitative and quantitative methods become a way to prove the hypothesis of this study by using SEM-PLS as an analysis tool. The sample in this study limits the building developers and owners to assess aspects that affect the sustainability of the green building concept and obtain an overview of the incentive models they expect. The results of this study indicate the level of knowledge of building developers and building owners affects the ability of building management to achieve a sustainable concept. Besides, the aspect of sustainability has an impact on the acquisition of both internal and external incentives for developers and building owners. Specific incentive models that developers and owners expect are accelerating licensing and building certification and reducing property tax. The government also supports the provision of property tax compared to value-added tax because it is a controlling tool in implementing green building concepts.

Wet oxidation pretreatment effect for enhancing bioethanol production from cassava peels, water hyacinth, and green algae (Ulva)

Biomass pretreatment is the most important yet challenging process in biofuel production, with the aim of making part of the biomass more accessible for further treatment. There are four fundamental types of pretreatment techniques employed for bioethanol production: physical, chemical, physicochemical, and biological. Wet oxidation (WO) in fact is known to be one of the most effective pretreatments to liberate more cellulose from lignocellulosic material by heating, in purpose of reducing acid usage in the bioethanol process. The effect of two different conditions of WO pretreatment on fractionation cassava peels, Ulva algae, and water hyacinth was investigated. WO resulted in an increase of carbohydrate content of lignocellulosic residues as a result of the solubilization of cellulose and hemicellulose. The highest carbohydrate content of 1.5g/L was obtained in the pretreatment at 125°C, 45 min, 1.5 bar pH3 for water hyacinth. The pretreatment efficiency was 95%. Changing the pretreatment operating conditions to 130°C, 75 min, 1.8 bar and pH1 allowed to yield high carbohydrate from cassava peel and Ulva algae in respective proportion of 2.38g/L and 1.83 g/L. The WO efficiency was respectively 63% and 95% for cassava peels and Ulva algae. Ethanol yields in respective proportion of 0.26 g/l; 0.31 g/l and 0.2 g/l from Ulva algae, cassava peel and water hyacinth showed the optimum condition of *** enzymatic convertibility of glucose to ethanol.

Index Risk of Sanitation (IRS) Modeling to Determine Domestic Waste Water System

Indonesian government through National Medium Development Term Plan (2015-2019) aims 100% easy access of clean and fresh drink water, and 100% decent access of sanitation. The present study aims to determine index risk of sanitation modeling (IRS) of domestic waste water as an effort in achieving the target of Universal Access 2020. Discriminants that resulted from the present study are: Z1 = -41.86 - (1,16*IRS) + (0,07*PM) + (0,16*PP) + (0,11*PWM) dan Z2 = 6.74 + (1,54*IRS) + (0,01*PM) + (0,21*PP) - (0,26*PWM) in which it is used to determine domestic waste water system. Variables that influence this system are index risk of sanitation (IRS), female participant (PP), poor people (PWM), and beneficiary (PM). When the equation mentioned above is applied into 154 districts in Surabaya, the result will be as follow: 1) Based on Domestic Waste Water System there are 57 districts (37,01%) that can be included into communal system, 31 (20,13%) districts are included into domestic IPAL system and 66 districts (42,86%) are included into combination between communal and IPAL system.

The study of Area Infiltration Rate by Using Biopori Holes as an Effort to Reduce Water Level and Groundwater Conservation

The expansion of land development for settlement and other infrastructure has impact for lessen of green open space that serves to absorb rainwater. Accordingly to that, there is a need of effort to increase the absorbtion rate of rainwater into the ground; one of the methods is using biopori holes. The area that uses as a sample to observe the infiltration rate using biopori holes is Kopelma Darussalam, Banda Aceh. The aim of this study is to measure the infiltration rate before and after the application of biopori holes, find out the amount of holes that required, discover the differences of ground water level every 2, 5, and 10 years return period and find out the amount of water that absorbed to ground water. The data which uses to calculate the water level is the annual maximum daily rainfall, land area under forest cover and texture, and infiltration rate. Meanwhile, the data which uses in order to calculate the volume of water infiltrated into the soil in each month is monthly rainfall data, land area which classified by the cover and texture and infiltration rate. Inundation height at annual maximum rainfalll plan for 2, 5, and 10 years return period with using 100, 160 and 400 holes for each 100 m2 is lower from 9.01% to 77.43% compared to not using biopori holes. In addition, the amount of water that infiltrated after using biopori holes is increasing up to 4120 m3 for each month.

The high level of erosion that occur in Musi river basin has improved a tremendous impact on sedimentation in downstream areas and has resulted in many infrastructure of water is disturbed, such as silting of irrigation channels, siltation of rivers which disrupt the flow of transport stream and increasing the risk of flooding, high sedimentation in the port basin, low quality of water and the rising costs of water treatment. This study utilizes techniques terrain models Digital (Digital Elevation Model/DEM) to analysis the spatial distribution of the potential for erosion and sources of sedimentation, as well as the direction of the flow of sediment into channels as well as its relationship with outlet in branching river as the supplies to be sediment to the river flow. The method used in this study using a spatial model analysis with the help of GIS in analysing and presenting the level of erosion and deposition by utilizing modelling slope and kinetic energy of rainfall to estimate the index erosivity and distribution pattern of sediment into the river channel. This research was conducted at the upper Lematang river sub basin with area 412,638 Ha, which are classified into 11 sub-chatments with the highest altitude is 3.159 m above sea level (Dempo Valley) and the lowest is 126 m above sea level (Talang tinggi Valley). Analytical results have been tested by taking a fine sediment sampling in each sub-watershed in the analysis and is taken along the channel network and compare the observed patterns with the results predicted by the model analysis of soil erosion. Overall, erosion by high intensity tends to occur in the relationship between the different vegetation coverage, the barren land and open land used for farms and land used for mining. Approximately 45-65.5% slope bad condition because the vegetation has been open, so it can be seen the amount of erosion in the area is 2.139 ton/ha/year, at the sloping is 1.8239 ton / ha / year

Stress analysis on the frame of peanut skin peeler using autodesk inventor software

The framework of the peanut shelling machine functions as a supporting structure for the components of the peanut shelling machine, namely the top funnel, funnel retaining frame, the lid on the peeler shaft, pulley, sieve shaft, sieve, engine body. Frame material is mild steel equal leg angles size 45 x 45 x 5, yield strength is 3,002E + 04 psi and tensile strength is 5.004E + 04 psi. Skeletal strength analysis was carried out using the autodesk inventor professional 2015 software. The engine frame was given axial loading of 500 N, 600 N, 700 N, 800 N, 900 N, and 1000 N. The analysis results of the maximum stress occur at 1000 N loading, amount to 16.85 Mpy, and the maximum deformation occurs at 1000 N loading, amounting to 0.07727 mm.

Dualism of the Protected Areas (Holy Region) on the Purnama Beach, Gianyar - Bali

Purnama Beach is located along the village of Gelumpang Sukawati Village as the part of Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. The majority of the population of Sukawati Village are Hindus who have many religious events especially related to the beach. The most frequently held ceremony at Purnama Beach is Tawur Agung Kesanga or Melasti ceremony, where Purnama Beach is used as the destination for a Melasti ceremony held by several areas around Sukawati District. The purpose of this study is (1) to identify the typology of spatial utilization in Purnama Beach area, (2) to formulate the various interests (actors) involved in Purnama Beach area, (3) to formulate the various functional changes that occur in the utilization of Purnama Beach area, (4) to identify the territories or zoning in Er Jeruk Temple, and (5) to formulate the various impacts that occur due to changes in the function of Purnama Beach area. So that this study can provide recommendations to mediate dualism conflicts in the use of sacred areas in Bali. It is expected to be useful in supporting regional spatial policies and sustainable tourism development.

Student's Perception on Pedestrian Path Comfort in Yogyakarta State University

Pedestrian path is an important element for outdoor activities in urban environment, as well as in campus area. Yogyakarta State University (YSU) is a campus which is still in progress to develop its physical environment, includes pedestrian areas. The research aims to study student's perceptions in using pedestrian path in campus area, especially in comfort aspects (direct route, line safety, and line clarity). This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by giving questionnaires using google form application to students. As a result, it is concluded three comfort indicators of student's perception on their campus pedestrian. First, the degree of achievement for experience indicators is 70.61%; it means that the experience indicators giving a good influence on the perceptions of YSU students. Second, the indicator of attraction is 80.85%, shows a very good influence on the perception of the students. Meanwhile, indicator of expectation is 76.86%, it means that the expectation indicator giving a pretty good influence on the perception of YSU students on the comfort of pedestrian.
