One of the wastes generated from coal mining area is the voluminous sludge, laden of metals. This sludge comes as precipitate which is produced from acid mine drainage active treatment ponds and always been disposed to the landfill. Limestone is one of the typical pH neutralization agents which is often used to bind the metal content of acid mine drainage in active treatment and will be settled at the bottom of the settling ponds. The goal of this study is to determine the potential utilization of acid mine drainage sludge in order to reduce the environmental problem caused by sludge accumulation so that this could become a valuable material. In this study, physical and chemical characterization from the sludge in solid form was carried out by laboratory analysis using SEM-EDS to see surface morphology, X-Ray Diffraction for mineralogy analysis, the chemical composition was done by using X-Ray Fluorescence and also BET method to see the surface area of the sample. The results of the characterization have shown that acid mine drainage sludge was very promising to be utilized as adsorbent material for removing pollutant in wastewater and further research is needed for the application to the wastewater technology. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

To control environmental pollution, the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) plays a vital role in treating wastewater to comply with quality standards before being discharged into the environment. However, not all WWTPs have worked optimally, so the periodic evaluations must be carried out to determine problems and what efforts can be made to improve WWTP processing quality. This study aims to evaluate the Jababeka 1 WWTP, which functions to treat wastewater in Industrial Area 1 and Industrial Area 7, which are in the Jababeka Industrial Estate (KIJ). Evaluation is carried out by comparing the actual processing efficiency with the related literature. Evaluation is also carried out by simulating the process and operation of WWTP using STOAT software. STOAT is one of the WWTP system modeling software mostly used to predict the wastewater treatment plant's performance. The test results show that for the efficiency of Jababeka 1, WWTP removal for parameters BOD, COD, and TSS are 90%, 93.02%, and 96.12%. Based on the data obtained, modeling based on sensitivity analysis was also carried out using STOAT software to determine the most significant WWTP performance parameters. It was found that the wastewater discharge was the most critical parameter affecting the removal efficiency of TSS and BOD. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

The Semarang City Government has issued a Mayor Regulation on Green Buildings since 2019. Since then the construction of buildings with a certain floor area in Semarang City must follow this regulation. Evaluating implementation constraints related to green building construction based on the experience of the development actors, is an important thing to do. This study aims to identify obstacles in realizing green buildings in the city of Semarang. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire survey of respondents from development actors involved in green buildings such as contractors, consultants and project owners and bureaucratic officials related to green building licensing. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analysis to reach agreement between respondents. Next, a hierarchy of these constraints will be sought. Constraints found in realizing green buildings are: lack of socialization from the city government, alternative materials, lack of best practices, experts, and financing. For this reason, a strategy is needed to overcome these obstacles from every aspect or based on a combined consideration of all aspects. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Number 4 of 2020,drinking water supply management can stand alone or work together with other *** local government establishes a Regional Drinking Water Company which has responsibility for supplying drinking water at the regency/city *** coastal city as the object of study manages clean water then transfers under a private *** to government restrictions regarding the authority to provide clean water,a technical implementation unit was formed for better solution in clean water *** new form of institution will be able to make decisions and carry out execution at any time because it is directly under the authority of the government,it can also apply the concept of good governance to support more transparent *** accordance with the policy,the new institutional form will be able to finance itself,develop the level of service and contribute to regional development as a source of local ***,the institutional transition requires adaptation both from a functional and operational *** this study,an analysis of the readiness for the transition of institutional forms is carried out to minimize conflicts such the lack of improvement in the quality of drinking water services due to limited government authority,insufficient qualified human resources in water management,and the difficulty of developing drinking water service infrastructure because it still depends on the private *** analysis of the structure and human resources associated with clean water service targets also *** strengthening,both regulatory and institutional,is necessary to maximize the roles and functions of the relevant *** a more comprehensive understanding in the preparation of contracts and division of authority,no parties will be aggrieved in the long term.

Making cement produces carbon dioxide (CO2) gas which results in the greenhouse effect. To reduce the use of cement, alternative materials are examined. One of the raw materials for making cement is limestone. Limestone is a sedimentary rock mainly composed of calcium carbonate. Blood clams (Anadara Granosa) are tried to replace cement because they have a high calcium carbonate mineral composition. Blood clams are crushed into powder and filtered using No.325 filter. Cement is replaced by weight by 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Mortar specimens in the form of cubes with a size of 5 cm. Mortar compressive strength test was carried out at 7 and 28 days. Anadara Granosa powder reacts very weakly with water and increases the initial compressive strength of the mortar. The results of Anadara Granosa mortar compressive strength test at 7 days were higher than normal mortar. The most efficient composition is indicated by cement replacement of 20%. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Landslide is one of the potential disasters that can take life and material. A way to reduce disaster risk in slopes is to improve slope stability. A challenge in improving slope stability is how to make soil retaining walls that are simple, quickly built, and workable in the process. This research focuses on laboratory tests of gravity, segmental, and pre-cast retaining walls in sands. The tested models are slopes with different segmental, pre-cast, gravity walls made of un-reinforced concrete for static loads. The slope failure patterns were observed with their load variations. There are two wall models segmental. Each segmental wall observed a collapse pattern that occurred behind the wall. Static loading is carried out step by step until collapse occurs in the segmental wall. Observations and defects are carried out during the load process until the segmental wall collapses. This research shows that segmental pre-cast retaining walls with specific models and sizes can be selected to support certainly given loads to prevent slope failure. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Domestic wastewater contributes about 40% as the source of water bodies pollutants in Indonesia, causing the spread of pathogens and bioaccumulation effects on the environment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of household wastewater in Jakarta and Depok in terms of quantity and quality. The average wastewater quantity estimation results from laundry, bathroom, kitchen, and closet were 49 ± 18, 79.1 ± 5, 24.5 ± 12, and 29.9 ± 3 liters/person/day. The qualitative analysis results stated that blackwater tends to have higher concentration on conductivity 1606-2046 μs/cm, TDS 709-1007 mg/L, ammonia 78-167 mg/L, total nitrogen 511-836 mg/L, total phosphorus 16.6-21.3 mg/L, phosphate 33-46.8 mg/L, potassium 32.5-47.9 mg/L, and fecal coliform 430,000-1.600,000 MPN/100 mL compared to other sources. Meanwhile, laundry greywater tends to have higher concentration on COD 559-1991.6 mg/L, MBAS 0.3-0.31 mg/L, aluminum 1.65-5.09 mg/L, sodium 7.5-61.4 mg/L, and silica 17.7-23.2 mg/L compared to other sources. Statistical results show that some parameters have significant difference in average concentration between each source so that these parameters can be considered as source tracer. The high pollutant concentration and quantity leads to high estimation of pollutant load on the river, as water bodies receiver, in Jakarta and Depok, especially on organic and nutrient load. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Aluminium in water treatment sludge can be recovered as coagulants by acidification method. However, there are some factors that affect efficiency in recovering aluminium, such as stirring speed during acidification, pH, and sludge characteristic. This study aims to find the optimum acidification stirring speed in recovering alum and to evaluate the performance of recovered coagulant compared to a pure coagulant. Aluminium recovery is carried out by adding sulphuric acid until the pH of the sludge reaches 2.5. The acidic sludge is stirred for 30 minutes, with acidification stirring speed is varied from 240-720 rpm, and left for settling until the supernatant is formed. The supernatant was used as a recovered coagulant, examined using a jar test to determine the optimum dose, and compared with the pure coagulant. The results show that the optimum acidification stirring speed was obtained at 540 rpm, where mass balance shows aluminium recovery efficiency of 16.5%. The optimum dose for recovered coagulant was 25 ppm, with a turbidity reduction of 93.38% in jar test. While the optimum dose for pure alum was 20 ppm, with turbidity reduction of 93.26%. Though potentially reduced higher turbidity, the recovered coagulant has slightly lower quality than the pure coagulant, which required a higher optimum dose. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Artificial support material was examined to determine the removal capacity of organic pollutants and nutrients on laboratory scale using PFR system. The experiment was performed using artificial water with similar characteristics to Cikapayang River in three PFRs of 10.78 L. The PFRs were made of PVC pipes filled with an inert chemical substrate as an artificial support material. The process of pollutants removal in the PFR relies on a biological layer (biofilm) grown on the surface of the material support. Three type of C:N:P ratio used in this study were 30:15:1, 75:25:2, and 180:35:3. The results showed that the maximum removal efficiency of TSS, TN, TP, and COD in the preliminary tests were 85%, 87%, 71% and 79%, respectively. Moreover, the maximum water absorption capacity result was up to 30.8%. Organic substrate removal rate compared with first order and Strover-Kincannon substrate removal models prediction. The best fit model for this experiment was Stover-Kincannon model, with the average correlation coefficient up to 90% for all of the three reactors. SEM analysis shown that the microorganisms shape is coccus with the average size of 5 μm. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Much damage to buildings occurs in areas that have soft soil layers due to the failure of the foundations. Besides, foundations in soft soils generally require very expensive construction. For this reason, proper research needs to help develop strong foundations that can be used on soft soils with relatively low cost. In this research, foundations with various diameters and depths were tested on soft soil. The foundations were made of PVC pipes with diameters of ½ ", 1", 2 " or 2.5" and the same depth. Soft soil in the form of clay with particle-sizes that passed filter No. 200 was used. Before testing the foundations, carrying capacity analysis was done using the classical method on each pipe with a closed head so that the optimum carrying capacity of each foundation (PVC Pipe) was known. From this test the influence of the size of the foundations on the carrying capacity of soft soil could be seen. The results of this research will help reduce building loss/damage in areas dominated by soft topsoil © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
