Fabrication a sustainable adsorbent nanocellulose-mesoporous hectorite bead for methylene blue adsorption

In this study, fabrication of mesoporous nanocellulose-hectorite-alginate bead (B-NcH) composites and their application for adsorption of MB from water was carried out. The synthesis of nanocellulose (NC) was conducted from mangosteen waste peel (Garcinia mangostana L.). Garcinia mangostana L. peel had 58.9 ± 0,41 % content of cellulose. NCs was successfully isolated using the acid hydrolysis method. NC from Garcinia mangostana L. peel had a diameter of 24.5 ± 0.2 nm and a length of 381.2 ± 10.4 nm. The superabsorbent was composed of nanocrystalline cellulose, mesoporous hectorite, and alginate. The functional group, phase, and morphology of composite was investigated. The composite with 5 % NC had excellent mechanical strength. The B-NcH5 showed a high adsorption capacity of methylene blue (MB), reaching 98.64 % at an adsorbent dose of 30 mg for 90 min. The presence of hectorite can increase the adsorption ability compared to NCs-alginate. The equilibrium adsorption data followed the Freundlich isotherm;however, the kinetics of adsorption showed the usefulness of adopting the PSO kinetic model. The highest adsorption capacity of B-NcH5 for MB was determined to be 57.59 mg/g. For thermodynamic studies, it was revealed that the adsorption of MB on BNcH-5 is a spontaneous and endothermic process. The removal efficiency was observed in six consecutive cycles, indicating at the favorable reusability of this adsorbent. These results validate the potential use of this B-NcH5 adsorbent for water treatment applications. © 2024

Success in implement irrigation area management activities is highly dependent on data availability. The existence of a realtime, fast, and accurate information is very important. The data and information needed must be easily accessible to interested parties. Development of an irrigation network information system is carried out by converting data into coordinate form using ArcGIS software. Visual studio software is used to display all data that has been processed. Spatial-based irrigation network information systems built using ArcGIS and Visual Studio software can easily obtain information about channel conditions, rating curves, channel profiles and channel photos. the availability of spatial-based irrigation network information systems facilitates the management of irrigation networks. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Analysis of water distribution system at Alang-Alang Lebar

Municipal Waterworks Tirta Musi manages and supplies clean water to Palembang city. The distribution network system of Municipal Waterworks Tirta Musi is expected to distribute water sufficiently to all customers in the 18 districts this Municipal Waterworks serves. However, it was found that in Alang-alang Lebar service unit water was not delivered sufficiently. Moreover, Alang-alang Lebar service unit plans to improve the service so that the system will serve increasing customers until the next 20 years. This study aims to analyze the water distribution system to find the cause of insufficient water in Alang-Alang Lebar; predicting the number of customers in the next 20 years, and propose some improvements in the distribution system. A computer program EPANET was used to conduct the simulations on pipe networks. Data required for hydraulic analysis using EPANET was obtained from Municipal Waterworks Tirta Musi. The result shows that head pressure was the main problem in Alang-Alang Lebar. Adding discharge of pump reservoir, enlarging pipe diameters in some parts will improve the distribution performance. The proposed design of the distribution system will be able to deliver water for the next 20 years with an increasing number of the customer.

Variational quantum circuit-based quantum machine learning approach for predicting corrosion inhibition efficiency of pyridine-quinoline compounds

This work used a variational quantum circuit (VQC) in conjunction with a quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) model to completely investigate the corrosion inhibition efficiency (CIE) displayed by pyridine-quinoline compounds acting as corrosion inhibitors. Compared to conventional methods like multilayer perceptron neural networks (MLPNN), the VQC model predicts the CIE more accurately. With a coefficient of determination (R 2 ), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean absolute deviation (MAD) values of 0.989, 0.027, 0.024, and 0.019, respectively, VQC performs better. The established VQC model predicts the CIE with outstanding predictive accuracy for four newly synthesized pyrimidine derivative compounds: 1-(4-fluorophenyl)- 3-(4-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)phenyl)urea (P1) , 1-phenyl-3-(4-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)phenyl)urea (P2) , 1-(4-methylphenyl)-3-(4-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)phenyl)urea (P3) , and quaternary ammonium salt dimer (P4) . It generates remarkably high CIE values of 92.87, 94.05, 94.96, and 96.93 for P1, P2, P3, and P4, respectively. With its ability to streamline the testing and production processes for novel anti-corrosion materials, this innovative approach holds the potential to revolutionize the market.

Understanding soil shrinkage and retaining water is essential for learning more about the possibility of cracking of liner. Moreover, the factors that influence it are also important to know to improve the material tested as hazardous waste liners. The vapour equilibrium technique is widely used to control suction of compacted soils experiencing drying-wetting phenomena. It is considered to be inexpensive, simple, and has the ability to adequately control the suction applied to soil samples. This paper, therefore, describes its application in studying the shrinkage and water retention in compacted claystone-bentonite mixtures. This involved using five saturated salt solutions including potassium sulphate (K2SO4), potassium chloride (KCl), sodium chloride (NaCl), potassium carbonate (K2CO3), and magnesium chloride (MgCl2.6H2O). The sample was allowed to be in equilibrium with the relative humidity salt solution and a calliper was used to measure the dimensions every day up to when this was achieved. The results showed the bentonite in the mixture affects the amount of shrinkage and water retention while the sample's initial moisture content was also found to be very influential on the magnitude of the primary and residual shrinkage. Moreover, the sample's ability to hold water was almost the same without differentiating the initial water content at a total suction of more than 41084.91 kPa.

Acoustic quality in mosques is of great importance to the occupants because most of the activities in mosques require excellent speech intelligibility for activities such as listening to lectures and sermons to be conveyed effectively, and dome as a roof for mosques has been a prominent architectural feature for this typology. However, in many studies, it is found that the dome results in echo or concentrated sound waves due to its concave surface. Therefore, this research investigates other alternatives that are additional fitting to improve acoustic quality in the mosque with a dome in the shape, material and size of that additional fitting. The methodology of this research is done through simulation by using ODEON software by simulating and experimenting on different shapes, sizes and materials of the additional fitting. Results are then being compared to two parameters; (1) Reverberation Time, (2) Speech Transmission Index (STI). Therefore, this study will help in future mosque design and its diffusing panel where not only could become of aesthetic feature and a functional feature in the dome. Furthermore, the research findings do not limit to the mosque only but to similar building that has the same typology such as religious building like church and any hall.

Sago starch produced in South Sulawesi has limited applications, including the loss of viscosity under low pH conditions, high temperature, or mechanical treatment. Physical modification to change the physicochemical characteristic of sago starch without destroying its granular structure is Heat-Moisture Treatment (HMT). HMT method was heating temperature variation treatment. During HMT, sago starch granular at low moisture levels is heated. This research of engineering technology means to physically modify sago starch by using different Heat Moisture Treatment (HMT), which in due course obtained sago starch with physiochemistry appropriate for specific application and consequently could be manufactured as raw materials for popular foods such as bread, various kinds of noodles, and biscuits.

A declining trend of Samosir Panorusan goat population has been identified. As the Panorusan is an endemic and endangered species goat where the pure breed only 250,000 heads left, a research was conducted in order to find the cause factors for declining trend of population from April to June 2018 in Pangururan District, Samosir Regency. The method used was multiple linier regression analysis with variabel limitations such as goat feed, disease, breeders'experience, local culture and marketing rate of productive ewe. This research was conducted by asking directly to Panorusan goat breeders. The total of 55 goat breeders was divided into 2-3 breeders/villages. The results of this study indicated that the variable of local culture was significantly as a dominant factor that causing a declining trend of Samosir Panorusan goat population. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Orthotropic Levy-type solution plates considering shear deformation were solved by using the Spectral Element Method (SEM). In SEM, the exact solution of structural dynamic related problems can be solved by using the frequency-dependent shape functions. The solutions of SEM are accurate in decreasing the amount of Degree Of Freedoms (DOF) to discard the cost and computational disadvantages in the Finite Element Method (FEM). This study investigates the free vibration problems of orthotropic Levy-type solution plates solutions based on the two variable Refined Plate Theory (RPT). SEM for orthotropic Levy-type solution plates in the frequency domain was formulated to solve free vibration problems. The differential governing equations of the orthotropic plate element in SEM are formulated into the form of transcendental stiffness matrices. The boundary conditions of the spectral element model consist of four edge-type DOFs at each side of the orthotropic Levy-type solution plates. The natural frequencies of the plate are calculated by means of the Wittrick-Williams procedure. The numerical investigations are presented to show the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of SEM without any discretization scheme. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) remains a pervasive global issue, with hospital wastewater serving as a prominent hotspot for its dissemination within aquatic ecosystems. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and their correlation with crAssphage, a human-specific faecal source tracking marker, in a hospital wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and a receiving canal. Water samples were analysed using high throughput qPCR (HT-qPCR) to determine the relative abundance of 94 ARGs and crAssphage to the 16S rRNA gene, as well as qPCR to determine concentrations of selected ARGs and crAssphage. The HT-qPCR results showed the detected gene count fluctuated between 85 and 93, peaking in WW samples (91 to 93 genes). Intriguingly, the gene diversity in the upstream canal reflected that of the WWTP, suggesting the possibility of prior contamination. The study identified blaGES as the most relative abundant gene in untreated wastewater, while qacE∆1, merA, and mobile genetic elements (IS6100, tnpA, and IS26) showed high prevalence throughout the treatment processes. The lower relative abundance of these genes in the upstream canal suggests a potential risk for canal contamination. WWTP removal efficiency ranged from 0.60 to 3.23 log reduction values, suggesting that WWTP plays a crucial role in reducing the ARG abundance. Apart from blaVIM, no significant differences were observed in the absolute abundance of most genes between treated effluent and environmental samples, indicating a widespread distribution of these genes in the environment. Strong positive correlations among the absolute concentrations of ARGs and crAssphage were observed (Spearman’s rho = 0.6 – 1.0), suggesting that crAssphage could reflect the distribution of other ARGs throughout the treatment processes. These results underline the significance of monitoring ARGs in hospital wastewater and their receiving waters, and the role of robust biomarkers like crAssphage in
