Effect of physical and biological pretreatment on sugarcane bagasse waste-based biogas production

Sugarcane bagasse is a biomass with very potential, especially in agricultural countries. In this research, a study related to pretreatment and the ratio of C/N to biogas production from sugarcane bagasse was conducted. The study was carried out on a laboratory scale with physical pretreatment by grinding with a size of 6 mesh, then biological pretreatment with the microbial consortium 5 % g/V, and variations in the C/N ratio at 25 and 30. Cow rumen fluid was used in this study as a source of anaerobic bacteria and technical urea is used to adjust the C/N ratio. The solid total is set at 7 %. Based on research that has been carried out for 60 days, it was found that physical pretreatment by grinding with a size of 6 mesh can increase biogas production. Biogas production increased both at C/N ratio conditions of 25 and 30. Furthermore, biological pretreatment with the microbial consortium 5 % g/V was proven to increase biogas production at both C/N ratios of 25 and 30. Further studies on the C/N ratio, it was found that the C/N ratio of 25 was better than the C/N ratio of 30. This is evident in several variables, including raw and fine substrate conditions, as well as on variables with or without a microbial consortium, with the amount of biogas productivity at a C/N 25 ratio of 53-90.5 % higher than the C/N 30 ratio. © 2023 The Authors. The battery thermal management system (BTMS) is essential for maintaining the battery's temperature and hence its performance. BTMS is classified into three types: active cooling, passive cooling, and hybrid approaches. Because of its simple design, lack of additional power, and even temperature distribution, PCM is extensively used as a BTMS as a passive cooling technique. PCM also has drawbacks like leak sensitivity and limited heat conductivity. This stimulates PCM performance enhancement attempts. Adding reinforcing material to PCM is a standard way to increase its performance. Aluminum nitride (AlN) and expanded graphite (EG) are commonly employed as fillers. The addition of EG and nano-AlN materials can improve the performance of PCM composites compared to pure PCM. Chemical interactions between these materials do not take place either. It is undeniably advantageous that these two materials may be combined into pure paraffin-based PCM for energy storage applications. The combined or hybrid system of BTMS is the optimum alternative for increasing heat transmission from the battery modules into the surrounding environment. The battery temperature will at good maintained well with the combination of 2 (two) and 3 (three) passive cooling methods or even combined with active cooling methods such as air-forced convection. In BTMS, the heat pipe is widely employed as a heat transfer improvement. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Pico scale Turgo turbine (PSTT) is proper as a power plant to be applied for remote areas because of its simple construction, cheap investment cost, and good performance above 35%. However, the design of PSTT is still based on estimation because the wheel diameter and nozzle diameter (D/d) ratio are not yet in reasonable agreement. Furthermore, the literature on D/d affects PSTT performance has not been comprehensive. Accordingly, this study investigates the relation of D/d on PSTT performance and its effect on the U/Vjet. Based on experimental results, the relation of D/d and U/Vjet to PSTT performance is parabolic (expressed by polynomial quadratic);the maximum configuration of D/d of 22, and U/Vjet between 0.42 to 0.47. © 2022, Turbomachinery Society of Japan. Citrus Limon L. (Lemon) is a type of fruit that is currently widely consumed, because it contains abundant vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. This fruit have high potential in the agribusiness sector and is widely cultivated by traditional farmers. However, during harvest time, traditional farmers generally still use manual methods using the human eye in distinguishing the maturity level of lemons which is less efficient because it has a low accuracy. Digital image processing is one solution to this problem. In the research on the classification of lemon maturity levels using digital image processing with the feature extraction method of the Mean RGB, HSV, and LBP methods and the K-Nearest Neighbor classification algorithm in this study, a total of 120 lemon images were used which were divided into 80 training image data and 40 image data. testing. The results of model performance measurements in the form of the highest accuracy level in the Mean RGB method of 100%, the highest accuracy in the HSV method of 98%, and the highest accuracy in the LBP method of 82.5%. © 2023 IEEE.

This research introduces the Smart Direct Couple Motor Operated Valve (SDCMOV), designed to enhance agricultural efficiency and sustainability. SDCMOV automates the distribution of water and fertilizers in vegetable farming, reducing labor intensity and inefficiencies. The system addresses key issues such as minimizing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among farmers and ensuring consistent nutrient delivery for optimal plant growth. Energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and remotely controllable via mobile devices, SDCMOV significantly improves irrigation and fertilization processes. Experimental results suggest that SDCMOV is a viable solution for sustainable and modern agricultural practices, particularly in developing countries. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Floods occur every year and threaten communities worldwide. Indonesia is among the countries faced with this problem and still struggling to seek practical solutions to date. Further, as the country’s centers of trade, business, and technology, the island of Java cannot even perform better in dealing with floods. To further understand possible damage and losses, this research investigated structural mitigation measures as part of flood management in the Pepe River, notably river channelization to increase hydraulic efficiency. For the analysis, it used HEC-RAS to observe the river capacity. Existing conditions revealed that the river could not accommodate the predicted floods based on the return periods derived from the synthetic unit hydrograph of Nakayasu. However, after running the mitigation scenario wherein hydraulic modification was applied, flood risk could be reduced by lowering the river water level. Based on the results, it can be concluded that Indonesia needs to pay more attention to other aspects: ecology, green infrastructure, and water governance, to achieve more effective flood mitigation measures because structural mitigation only provides a temporary solution. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The road of Cisarua - Ngamprah has winding conditions and can result in accidents from a geometric perspective. Some of the reasons are because the radius, visibility, and pavement widening at bends have inappropriate road slopes. This research aims implementation of centrifugal force in the geometric design of road for safety driving Conveniencet at the Cisarua sta. 0+050 -1+450. This research method uses evaluative and quantitative methods. Data collection is carried out by observing road locations and the agencies responsible for completing geometric traffic data. Data analysis was carried out on centrifugal strength calculation, the highway gradient, arch sharpness calculation, and centrifugal forces implementation on road bends. These actions are lumped through plunging the aftereffect of greater centrifugal force strength. Moreover, this implementation is also able to reduce the chance of accidents due to centrifugal force impacts based on road geometry calculations. Based on the evaluation and implementation of a smaller centrifugal force design, the use of a spiral-circle-spiral bend type with a transition curve can increase safety driving comfort.

Geotourism is rapidly experiencing rapid growth in developing countries, such as Indonesia, and it is a component of sustainable tourism. In addition, the country has many areas of geodiversity in cities or towns that potentially can become urban geotourism destinations, such as the Bandung Basin area. This region is characterized by geological features, including young volcanic rocks surrounding the mountains, alluvial fans, and lake deposits at lower elevations extending from Rancaekek to the base of Mount Lagadar in the western part of the area. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the respective roles of stakeholders in urban geotourism development. The study used literature review and interview methodology, where data was interpreted with stakeholder analysis, and complemented by descriptive analysis. The results showed that stakeholders were divided into primary (quadrant 1), key (quadrant 2), and secondary (quadrant 3) categories, each with distinct interests and degree of influence. As urban tourism expands, it presents ongoing opportunities to cultivate sustainable practices within these locales. The establishment of urban geotourism necessitates the identification and evaluation of engaged stakeholders. The subsequent planning and management initiatives for the Bandung Basin area can be enhanced through the active participation of stakeholders. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

The efforts to mitigate floods are necessary. One of the tools that can contribute to flood mitigation is the Flood Early Warning System (FEWS). The main goal of this study is to design a prototype of FEWS that can be easily used anywhere, anytime, and provide accurate water level readings. The prototype system is designed using an Ultrasonic Sensor for water level detection, an alarm system, and Blynk as a web and mobile dashboard. The prototype consists of four main components: Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04, Arduino Nano, NodeMCU, and HC-12. It comprises two units: a transmitter unit and a receiver unit. To determine the accuracy and consistency of the Ultrasonic Sensor, the author conducted testing using calibration, non-continuous, and continuous methods. The accuracy obtained was 99.71%. Additionally, the author observed high consistency in the readings of the ultrasonic sensor, as evident from continuous sensor reading test results. Furthermore, the receiver unit successfully displayed output according to the water level threshold for each condition. Additionally, the Blynk web and mobile dashboard were able to display output as per the design. However, we suggest adding data logging features and also solar panels as a renewable power source to support the improved prototype system.

Artificial intelligence is one of the technological breakthroughs in science, especially in the field of computers. Object detection and recognition presents a new challenge on how to make machines detect objects automatically. To detect an object, the previous system will take the classifier of an object and evaluate it at various locations and various scales in the image. Smartphones currently play an important role in everyday life, but the existence of smartphones can be one of the causes of the user's lack of interest in reading books. With this Augmented Reality-based object detector, it is hoped that users can experiment on smartphones with the Snapchat application installed to detect objects in books that are around them and the number of objects will be counted automatically, it is also expected to attract users' desire to read books. Image recognition identification is taken through the phone's camera which is recognized as a lens. Lens AR in the Lens Studio application is supported by the SnapML machine learning algorithm, this machine learning function is to display book information and the number of books detected. This research was conducted using Cloud Computing such as Google Collaboratory which uses the python programming language, the book object dataset is selected from the COCO class, the model is exported to Open Neural Network Exchange (.ONNX) and then imported into the Lens Studio application. Publish lenses in the Snapchat app. Finally, a model test was carried out to detect objects and the number of objects in books that had been made using a Smartphone. Open the Snapchat application, scan the Snapcode generated by Lens Studio, AR lenses can be used in real time. AR Book Detection has been tested by other users on Snapchat with 18,845 Lens Views, 18,737 Lens Plays and 16 Lens Shares. © 2022 IEEE.
