River water pollution condition in upper part of Brantas River and Bengawan Solo River

Wastewater and solid waste from both domestic and industry have been known to give burden on river water quality. Most of river water quality problem in Indonesia has start in the upper part of river due to anthropogenic activities, due to inappropriate land use management including the poor wastewater infrastructure. Base on Upper Citarum River Water pollution problem, it is interesting to study the other main river in Java Island. Bengawan Solo River and Brantas River were chosen as the sample in this study. Parameters assessed in this study are as follows: TSS, TDS, pH, DO, and hexavalent chromium. The status of river water quality are assess using STORET method. Based on (five) parameters, STORET value showed that in Brantas River, Pagerluyung monitoring point had the worst quality relatively compared to other monitoring point in Brantas River with exceeding copper, lead and tin compared to the stream standard in East Java Provincial Regulation No. 2 in 2008. Brantas River was categorized as lightly polluted river based on monitoring period 2011-2015 in 5 monitoring points, namely Pendem, Sengguruh, Kademangan, Meritjan and Kertosono.

Design of a Task-Based Modular Re-Configurable Agricultural Robot

This paper presents a new method for designing an optimal harvesting agriculture manipulator. The novelty in our approach is the re-configurability of the robot's joints, i.e., the ability to assemble a given set of joints in a variable order to form different manipulators for different harvesting tasks. This way, we provide the farmer with the ability to change the robot's construction before each harvesting period to achieve maximal use of the robot throughout the year. The efficiency of task-based optimization is demonstrated on apple and tangerine harvesting tasks. The method is shown to improve efficiency in terms of success harvest ratio and harvest time compared with non-reconfigurable robots of the same complexity. © 2016

The measurements of the magnetic and nematic correlation lengths in a generalization of the two-dimensional XY model on the square lattice are presented using classical Monte Carlo simulation. The full phase diagram is reexamined based on these correlation lengths, demonstrating their power in studying generalized XY models. The ratio between the correlation length and the lattice size has distinctive behaviors which can be used to distinguish different types of phase transition. More importantly, the magnetic correlation length give more insights into the tricritical region where the paramagnetic, nematic, and quasi-long-range phases meet. It shows signatures for the intermediate region starting from the tricritical point, where the transition line is neither of the same physics as the Ising transition below nor the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition far above the tricritical point.

Background: The use of CPP-ACP combined with antibacterial propolis agents has not been widely observed and developed. Objective: To compare the effect of CPP-ACP containing propolis and CPP-ACP without propolis on the number of Streptococcus mutans in white-spot enamel surfaces of children aged 7 to 9 years old. Method: Design study was quasi-experimental using one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 32 students age 7-9 year old who had white-spot in enamel surfaces were divided into two groups. The two young dentists as examiner were calibrated by Kappa result was 0.82. Both groups carried out baseline on the variable number of S. mutans, which then one group was applied with CPP-ACP propolis paste and other group was applied with CPP-ACP without propolis every day for 4 weeks, then finally, data collection was carried out afterwards, the differences effect were statistically analyzed with T-Test and Wilcoxon. Results: There was a significant decrease (28% from applied CPP-ACP propolis, and 26% applied CPP-ACP without propolis) in the number of S. mutans from each treatment group (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference of effect CPP-ACP propolis compared to effect CPP-ACP without propolis in decreasing the number of Streptococcus mutan (p > 0.05). Conclusion: CPP-ACP containing propolis is not proven to be better than CPP-ACP without propolis in the decreasing number of Streptococcus mutans, yet it has the potential to be used as an alternative preventive material that could prevent demineralization and improve remineralization of white-spot in enamel surfaces.

The oxidation behaviour of ZrO2 nanoparticles added to Fe-18Al alloy has been studied. Isothermal oxidation behaviour with various temperatures and times was investigated and the results of microstructure showed the presence of Fe3Al intermetallic phases in grey color, Al2O3 oxide in white color, and the porosity indicated by dark color. The results of XRD and SEM-EDS analysis also confirmed the presence of the ZrO2 nanoparticles in addition to Fe3Al intermetallic phases and Al2O3 oxide phases. The addition of ZrO2 nanoparticles tended to decrease oxidation rate by promoting Al2O3 layers.

Comparative assessment of primary and secondary infection risks in a norovirus outbreak using a household model simulation

Diarrheal diseases can be transmitted via both primary infection due to exposures to contaminated materials from the environment and secondary infection due to person- to-person contacts. Usually, the importance of secondary infection is empirically assessed by fitting mathematical models to the epidemic curves. However, these empirical models may not be applicable to other epidemic cases because they are developed only for the target epidemics and they don＇t consider the detail routes of infection. In our previous study, we developed a theoretical model taking into account the various routes of infection that commonly occur in households （e.g., shaking hands, food handling, and changing diapers）. This model was made flexible and applicable to any epidemics by means of adjusting model parameters. In this study, we proposed a new index ＂Vulnerability indicator to secondary infection （VISI）＂, which expressed a ratio of secondary infection to primary infection risks and calculated this index in a simulated norouirus （NOV） epidemic that involved I0,000 households. The results demonstrated that households composed of more than three members including infant（s） had much higher levels of VlSl （5-45） than two-member-households with VlSI （0.1-4）. These results concluded that the infants were likely to be a hub of secondary infections in highly dense families and therefore careful handling of diapers was deemed indispensible in such families to effectively control the secondary infections.

PPFIA3 encodes the protein-tyrosine phosphatase, receptor-type, F-polypeptide-interacting-protein-alpha-3 (PPFIA3), which is a member of the LAR-protein-tyrosine phosphatase-interacting-protein (liprin) family involved in synapse formation and function, synaptic vesicle transport, and presynaptic active zone assembly. The protein structure and function are evolutionarily well conserved, but human diseases related to PPFIA3 dysfunction are not yet reported in OMIM. Here, we report 20 individuals with rare PPFIA3 variants (19 heterozygous and 1 compound heterozygous) presenting with developmental delay, intellectual disability, hypotonia, dysmorphisms, microcephaly or macrocephaly, autistic features, and epilepsy with reduced penetrance. Seventeen unique PPFIA3 variants were detected in 18 families. To determine the pathogenicity of PPFIA3 variants in vivo, we generated transgenic fruit flies producing either human wild-type (WT) PPFIA3 or five missense variants using GAL4-UAS targeted gene expression systems. In the fly overexpression assays, we found that the PPFIA3 variants in the region encoding the N-terminal coiled-coil domain exhibited stronger phenotypes compared to those affecting the C-terminal region. In the loss-of-function fly assay, we show that the homozygous loss of fly Liprin-α leads to embryonic lethality. This lethality is partially rescued by the expression of human PPFIA3 WT, suggesting human PPFIA3 function is partially conserved in the fly. However, two of the tested variants failed to rescue the lethality at the larval stage and one variant failed to rescue lethality at the adult stage. Altogether, the human and fruit fly data reveal that the rare PPFIA3 variants are dominant-negative loss-of-function alleles that perturb multiple developmental processes and synapse formation.

Recent experiments on cold atoms in optical lattices allow for a quantitative comparison of the measurements to the conductivity calculations in the square lattice Hubbard model. However, the available calculations do not give consistent results and the question of the exact solution for the conductivity in the Hubbard model remained open. In this letter we employ several complementary state-of-the-art numerical methods to disentangle various contributions to conductivity, and identify the best available result to be compared to experiment. We find that at relevant (high) temperatures, the self-energy is practically local, yet the vertex corrections remain rather important, contrary to expectations. The finite-size effects are small even at the lattice size 4 × 4 and the corresponding Lanczos diagonalization result is therefore close to the exact result in the thermodynamic limit. Revitalization is a much-needed for a historic kampong as a settlement, place of business, and as tourist destinations. The research was conducted in Kauman as one of the cultural heritage kampong which was formerly as a residence of abdidalemulamaKeraton who also work as batik entrepreneurs. This study aims to formulate a sustainable revitalization step based on the character of the area and the building. Aspects of sustainable revitalization that analyzed are the physical and non-physical condition of the environment. This research is an applied research with qualitative rationalistic approach supported with spatial distribution analysis through satellite imagery and Arch-GIS. The results revealed that sustainable revitalization for Kaumancan be done through: 1) Physical condition of the environment consists of land and building use, green open space, recreational park and sport activities, streets, drainage network, sewer network, the garbage disposal network; 2) Non-physical of the environment consists of economy, heritage socio-cultural, and the engagement of relevant stakeholders. The difference of this study with others is, this study is a continuation of the Kauman revitalization assistance program which involves community participation to produce a more appropriate solution for the problem of kampong.

We present the Black Hole Explorer (BHEX), a mission that will produce the sharpest images in the history of astronomy by extending submillimeter Very-Long-Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) to space. BHEX will discover and measure the bright and narrow "photon ring" that is predicted to exist in images of black holes, produced from light that has orbited the black hole before escaping. This discovery will expose universal features of a black hole's spacetime that are distinct from the complex astrophysics of the emitting plasma, allowing the first direct measurements of a supermassive black hole's spin. In addition to studying the properties of the nearby supermassive black holes M87*and Sgr A*, BHEX will measure the properties of dozens of additional supermassive black holes, providing crucial insights into the processes that drive their creation and growth. BHEX will also connect these supermassive black holes to their relativistic jets, elucidating the power source for the brightest and most efficient engines in the universe. BHEX will address fundamental open questions in the physics and astrophysics of black holes that cannot be answered without submillimeter space VLBI. The mission is enabled by recent technological breakthroughs, including the development of ultra-high-speed downlink using laser communications, and it leverages billions of dollars of existing ground infrastructure.
