It is undeniable that microplastics are found in many types of water, including drinking water. This study aims to investigate the presence of microplastics in one of the drinking waters widely used by communities in Indonesia, known as unbranded refilled drinking water. The investigation was conducted at eight unbranded refilled drinking water depots in Karawang, West Java. A total of 2.00 L of raw air and processed water samples were taken from each depot, then prepared by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, analyzed using an Olympus BX - 41 microscope with a magnification of ten times, and then counted manually. The results showed that raw and processed water in all unbranded refilled drinking water depots contained microplastics with details of 15.50-42.00 particles/L and 6.50-17.50 particles/L, respectively. The dominant microplastics found were fibers and fragments with sizes of 1.00-3.00 mm and less than 1.00 mm. Furthermore, the dominant color of the microplastics was black, indicating that the polymers of microplastics were polyethylene, polypropylene, or polystyrene. This finding has confirmed that refilled drinking water consumed by the community in Indonesia has potentially become one of the main pathways for the entry and accumulation of microplastics into the human body, posing significant health risks. The objective of this study was to determine the determinants between Community-Based Total Sanitation and the incidence of diarrhea in toddler at communities near rivers. This study used a quantitative approach with cross sectional design. The sample consisted of 76 mothers who have toddler with the sampling technique by accidental sampling. Primary data obtained directly from interviews using questionnaires and direct observation to respondents. The independent variable was Community-Based Total Sanitation which includes the behavior of open defecation, drinking water and food management, household waste management, and household waste water management. The results showed that only household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p value 0,0000;OR 5,2), while, open defecation (p value 0.118), drinking water and household food management (p value 1,000), household waste management (p value 0,979) was not related to the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Toddlers in households with poor wastewater treatment were 5,2 times more likely to have diarrhea. The conclusion is household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers, so that innovative efforts are needed so that the community improves their waste management. This is useful for preventing the occurrence of diarrhea in toddlers. © 2022

Lampung Province is one of the regions with the highest cocoa production, but many factors can interfere with cocoa production. One of them is the factor of pests and diseases of cocoa that cannot be identified and prevented beforehand. An expert system is a system that adopts expert knowledge or experts in a particular field. However, the diagnosis usually contains uncertainty in the form of answers and statements used. Certainty Factor (CF) algorithm, is one of the algorithms that is able to overcome uncertainty by providing a value for the level of trust from experts and users. However, because the CF value is based on the level of confidence in the symptoms experienced by the user, it creates a problem, namely the consistency of the user's answers. So, it is necessary to make improvements to the CF algorithm, to overcome the inconsistency of user answers through the use of Consistency Ratio (CR). Through the use of CR, inconsistencies are overcome through comparisons between the consistency index and the random index. Based on the results of the accuracy test, the proposed model is able to produce an accuracy rate of 86.67% in the diagnosis of pests and diseases on cocoa plants. © 2022 IEEE.

The problems and challenges for the government in seeing disease growth trend patterns are very important. This research focuses on infectious diseases, namely Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), while non-communicable illnesses focus on epilepsy and thalassemia in 2023-2024. The priority in this research is that the Health Service can take action to prevent disease distribution patterns that are seen based on the results of identifying patterns and trends using the fuzzy c-means model and mapping for each region. The research methodology includes collecting patient data, inputted by recorded medical data consisting of sub-district data and the number of incidents. The research results of the Fuzzy C-means model in analyzing infectious disease trend patterns show 3 clusters. The first cluster of vulnerable areas has four sub-districts: Sawang, Syamtalira Bayu, Dewantara and Muara Batu. Then, the second cluster still consists of 18 sub-districts. Finally, the safe cluster consists of 8 sub-districts. Meanwhile, the results of the ward model research showed that there were 2 clusters, namely vulnerable consisting of 19 sub-districts and safe eight sub-districts, which were then included in the spatial map. Meanwhile, analysis of non-communicable disease patterns using fuzzy c-means, namely thalassemia and epilepsy in cluster C1 (High) in 4 and 7 sub-districts, medium cluster in 9 and 7, and low cluster in 14 and 16 sub-districts. Therefore, this research can provide an important picture for the Health Service in analyzing trends in cluster patterns of growth of infectious and non-communicable diseases in children.

Assessing the Performance of Machine Learning Algorithms for Water Level Prediction in the Chao Phraya River and its Tributaries: A Focus on Low and High Water Levels

High precision of hydrological prediction is crucial for real–time operation of flood and drought risk mitigation and strategic planning. This study assessed the predictive performances of three Machine Learning (ML) algorithms;XGBoost, Random Forest (RF), and Multi–Layer Neural Networks (MLNNs) for water level prediction with a focus on low and high water levels. The one–day and one–week water level prediction models for six key gauged stations along the Chao Phraya River and its major tributaries were accordingly developed. Selecting the combination of input features was carried out and structured in the prediction model at all gauged stations based on the physical river–reservoir system using past water level, rainfall, controlled reservoir outflow, and upstream discharges with different travel times. The statistical evaluation indicated that both XGBoost and RF, the tree–based ML models, with rainfall input robustly outperformed than MLNNs, as it strongly achieved higher R2 from 0.957 to 0.999 for model training and from 0.743 to 0.995 for model testing and lower MAE, MSE, and RMSE values for all prediction scenarios. Among these three ML algorithms applied for daily prediction, RF demonstrated the superior performance for low water level prediction exhibiting the smallest percentage error of overestimating lying between +0.0088% and +0.9380%. XGBoost, RF, and MLNNs, demonstrated acceptable performance level for high water level prediction as it shows small percentage error of both overestimating and underestimating lying between –2.2696% and +1.1587%. Additionally, it can capture the entire testing dataset with high precision than weekly model. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In recent years, the effective utilization of the underground space using rectangular pipe such as underpass and barrier-free underground passageway is being promoted in urban areas. As an effective construction method in urban areas, the box culvert construction is being used. The pipe jacking of large rectangular sections is used under low earth covering because of the proximate structures and topographical conditions. However, the effects on surrounding ground and surface have to be considered carefully when these structures are constructed in shallow depth. For mitigating these influences, application of the upper semi-section excavation method is expected. However, the influence of the construction method on the surrounding ground has not been clarified because there are few construction examples of the method. Therefore, three-dimensional finite element analysis was carried out to clarify the behavior of the surrounding ground during the construction of the upper semi-section excavation method with different excavation shape. This study discusses the effects on the behavior of surrounding ground with the upper semi-section excavation method by means of numerical analysis. © 38th Annual International No-Dig Conference and Exhibition 2022, ISTT 2022.

Challenging body shaming with grading techniques in the fashion industry

Body shaming remains a prevalent concern in the fashion business, as conventional beauty standards sometimes exclude persons with varied body shapes. This study investigates the effect of pattern grading and motif grading approaches on reducing body shaming, particularly in the context of batik shirt production. The research highlights how various grading systems improve garment fit and cater to a broader range of body shapes, thereby challenging body shaming and promoting body inclusivity. The research examines the impact of grading methods on tailors' engagement, skill level, and self-assurance, showing that these methods enhance garment quality and empower industry professionals. This study employed a mixed-method approach, combining the creation of graded batik shirt prototypes with quantitative analysis using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The research indicates that motif grading maintains the traditional validity of batik designs while facilitating size modifications. Tailors expressed strong interest in adopting grading techniques, and the study proposes inclusive design solutions that effectively address body shaming in a traditional manner. The results suggest that integrating grading methodologies into fashion processes can foster a more inclusive and diverse business. Suggestions are offered for fashion designers, educational institutions, and companies to promote the implementation of grading techniques that accommodate body variation. This research identifies future research opportunities, such as incorporating technology in grading and formulating design methods to mitigate body shaming in the fashion industry. © 2025 The Authors

Traffic in most developing nations is considered mixed or heterogeneous. Motorcycle and other vehicle's behavior at signalized intersections would not probably have a similar influence on intersection capacity and time of the traffic signals. In theory, the saturation flow rate is a basic parameter to estimate the intersection capacity and time of the traffic signals. This study, therefore, aims to analyze the influence of motorcycle behavior on the saturation flow rate at signalized intersections in Denpasar, Bali. Traffic flow data are observed at four signalized intersection approaches that have similar width and traffic characteristics. Two approaches have exclusive stopping space for motorcycles (ESSM) while the other two do not. The study results show that more than 50% of motorcycles tend to be distributed beside flow at signalized intersections with ESSM on either light or dense traffic flows. In contrast, at the signalized intersections without ESSM, motorcycles are found to be distributed inside flow during low traffic conditions, while distributed beside flow during dense traffic flow. Besides, the saturation flow rates of motorcycle inside flow are less than that of beside flow at signalized intersections both with and without ESSM. A new method to estimate saturation flow is proposed. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In 2022, there are 1,524 flood events out of a total of 3,531 disasters occurring in Indonesia. East Kalimantan Province ranked 20th among the 35 provinces in Indonesia with 28 flood occurrences in 2022, resulting in two fatalities. This highlights the urgent need for addressing flood hazard to prevent future casualties. There are some methods that can be used to determine the flood hazard in a region. In this research aims to identify flood-prone areas in East Kalimantan Province and evaluate the effectiveness of different mapping methods. The methodology that compares are the Pairwise Comparison method and Geomorphic Flood Index (GFI). The study's results provide flood-prone area maps of East Kalimantan Province using both methods, recommend the more efficient method for flood-prone area identification, and offer mitigation strategies based on the findings. This research is intended to serve as a reference for selecting the best method for identifying flood-prone areas and for informing policy decisions to mitigate flood impacts in East Kalimantan Province. © Author(s) 2025.

Sunda Strait is one of the most important straits in Indonesia since it connects two major islands of Indonesia as well as two oceans. Due to its high importance, it is essential to have a well understanding of significant wave height within the strait. However, there are currently no long-term significant wave data from buoy records in Indonesia. The available fine-resolution meteorology-oceanography (metocean) data around the Sunda Strait is also not as fine as other locations in the world. Therefore, hydrodynamic modelling is essential to obtain significant wave data that completely covers the strait. The aim of this study was to perform a sensitivity analysis based on Sunda Strait SWAN significant wave height model In the research, we performed a sensitivity analysis on a significant wave height SWAN model using various spatial resolution of wind forcing from the ECMWF ERA5 database. The analysis is essential to obtain the coarsest acceptable metocean data for modelling. Our result shows that higher spatial resolution of wind forcing gives better agreement with the ERA 5 wave data. For the Sunda Strait case, we recommend using no coarser than 0.5 degrees of spatial wind forcing resolution. However, we also found that the modelling result, along with models from past studies, still underestimates the reported wave height data in extreme conditions. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
