The Effect of Filter Media Size and Loading Rate to Filter Performance of Removing Microplastics using Rapid Sand Filter

Microplastics (MP) can pose a serious threat to the environment and human health because of their tiny size and ability to spread easily in water. One of the alternative treatments to remove MP from water is the rapid sand filter (RSF). The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of filter media size and loading rate on RSF performance in removing MP. The applied filter media was silica sand with effective sizes (ES) of 0.39 and 0.68 mm. The loading rates of filtration were 4;6;8 and 10 m3/m2-h. The MP samples were made from plastic bags and torn tires (artificial samples: 10 to 800 µm). This study showed that the MP removal percentage was up to 96.6% (MP size larger than 200 µm). The head loss increment for loading rates 4;6;8;10 m3 /m2-h was 0.16;0.35;0.34;0.25 m (ES 0.39 m) and 0.10;0.18;0.18;0.19 m (ES 0.68 m)), respectively. Meanwhile, the filtration cycle for loading rates 4;6;8;and 10 m3/m2-h was 5, 2, 2, and 1 days (ES 0.39 mm) and 9, 4, 3, and 3 days (ES 0.68 mm), respectively. The result of this study showed that the smaller the filter media size, the higher the head loss of the filter media bed. Using the Scopus database, this study aims to investigate the use of artificial intelligence for cancer detection in the last ten years from 2013 to 2022. The researchers used bibliometric analysis combined with VosViewer and Rstudio software quantification method for literature analysis. The results of the flushed articles show data such as publication year, journal, country, keywords, and authors, to the highest number of citations. Common keywords used by researchers are artificial intelligence, medical, and human. Researchers limited the findings through keywords such as in the last ten years, documents are journals, and English only so that 1868 articles were obtained. The results found that Harvard Medical School affiliation had the highest number of articles, with 101 articles, by subject area, Medicine had a proportion of 41.9% (n=1320). This bibliometric study will be useful for other researchers to examine the development of research on Artificial Intelligence for Cancer Detection in the last ten years. © 2023 IEEE.

Power transformer plays a crucial role in the power networks. Most of the transformer malfunctions was due to failure in the insulating systems. The utilities keen on the contentious operation of the power network, so early detection of the transformer faults avoiding the undesirable outage of the transformer from the service. The insulating paper state is an indication to the transformer health and aging of it may lead to failure of the transformer, so some periodic and routine test must be performed on the insulting oil to get information about the insulating paper condition. The value of the degree of polymerization (DP) is a key of the insulating paper state. Various recommended tests such as the dissolved gases (DGA), breakdown voltage (BDV), oil interfacial tension (IF), oil acidity (ACI), moisture content (MC), oil color (OC), dielectric loss (Tan δ), and furans concentration specifically (2-furfuraldehyde (2-FAL)) were carried out to correlate between these variables and the DP and then to the insulating oil state. The collected data from these tests were used to supply XGBoost/LightGBM to build artificial intelligence model to predict the insulating paper state. The results indicated that the great ability of the proposed model to predict the insulating state with high accuracy. Of these various configurations for these two classification models, one achieved perfect prediction accuracy (100%) of the insulating paper state prediction accuracy. Diabetes mellitus is one of the most pressing health concerns because so many people are afflicted by its disabling symptoms. Factors such as age, excess body fat, insufficient physical activity, a history of diabetes in one's family, a sedentary lifestyle, an unhealthy diet, hypertension, etc., all increase the likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus. Health complications are more common in people with diabetes, including cardiovascular disease, renal failure, stroke, blindness, and nerve injury. To validate a diagnosis of diabetes, hospitals typically perform a battery of procedures on the patient. Big data analytics has many vital applications in the healthcare sector. Numerous large computer systems are used in the healthcare sector. With the help of big data analytics, researchers can sift through mountains of data in search of previously unseen patterns and insights. Current techniques have a poor degree of precision in classification and forecast. While previous research has focused on factors such as glucose, body mass index, age, insulin, etc., the proposed model takes these into account and also the other factors that may be more relevant to the development of diabetes. The newer sample is superior to the older one based on categorization accuracy. A workflow algorithm for diabetes prognosis is also required to improve the accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Melaleuca Cajaputi (Kayu Galam) is a type of tree that grows very fertile in swampy areas. This wood is commonly used in natural conditions (barked) in construction work. Meanwhile, other woods are generally used in a processed condition (without bark). For this reason, this paper compared galam wood with bark and without bark. This research was conducted by testing the physical characteristics and compressive strength in the laboratory. The compressive strength samples consisted of natural conditions (irregular round shape) with variations in length of 10 cm, 15 cm and 30 cm. Furthermore, each variation is made into a barked and peeled bark. All samples amounted to 126 units. The results of specific gravity and water content were not significantly different between barked and without bark. The water absorption in the shelled galam was 49.25% greater than that without the bark. Furthermore, the effect of the galam bark layer reduces the average strength by 24.92% and undergoes compression and shear failure. The failure of the test object with a ratio of length to diameter greater than 5 is indicated to have a buckling effect.

In Fiji, 90% of the population has access to basic sanitation;however, there are still persistent health risks from endemic faecal-oral diseases such as typhoid fever. There is a need to assess the contribution of existing sanitation facilities in the faecal pathogen transmission pathway. This study was conducted as part of a larger planetary health study across 29 rural communities within five river catchments. This specific research aimed to characterise latrine front-ends, both infrastructure and usage behaviour, and to assess the faecal contamination levels on various frequently contacted latrine surfaces in rural Fiji. A sanitation survey, along with observation and latrine swab sampling, was conducted in households over three phases: baseline (n = 311) (Aug–Dec 2019), endline (n = 262) (Jun–Sep 2022) and an in-depth front-end study (n = 12) (Oct–Nov 2022). Of 311 households, almost all had pedestal-type latrines, predominately cistern-flush (83%), followed by pour-flush (13%), and then hole-type (pit) latrines (4%). Washable latrine floors had significantly higher E. coli densities (6.7 × 102 CFU/25 cm2) compared to non-washable floors (1.3 × 102 CFU/25 cm2) (p = 0.05), despite washable floors indicating improved latrines. Mode choice analysis of passenger transport at train station using stated preference method

Tourists at Solo Balapan Station have several options for continuing their journey, including private, semi-private, and public vehicles. Despite the fact that Batik Solo Trans (BST) Corridor II is one of the modes of public transportation available at this location, it is still infrequently used. The goal of this research is to identify the factors that influence mode selection and to develop a model. This study employs statistical analysis to investigate passengers’ socioeconomic and travel characteristics, as well as methods for expressing preferences regarding ticket attributes, headway, and service level. Questionnaires were distributed at nearby stations and bus stops to collect data from 240 respondents. The binomial logit model was used to analyze the mode selection model. According to the stated preference method, respondents believe that the IDR 3500 fare, 10 minutes of headway, and Wi-Fi will persuade passengers to choose BST. Private-Online, Private-BST, and Online-BST are other binary logit models. If the costs of private vehicles and online transportation are the same, 52% of respondents will choose private vehicles, according to the results of the binary-difference logit modeling. Similarly, if the costs of BST and private vehicles are comparable, 70% of respondents will choose private vehicles. If the BST and online transportation costs are the same, however, 38 percent will choose online transportation. The logit-ratio modeling results also show the previously mentioned conditions. If the cost ratio is one, the three alternatives listed above are obtained in the following order: 52% prefer private vehicles in Alternative 1, 63% prefer BST in Alternative 2, and the same percentage prefer online transportation in Alternative 3. The results of preference analysis show that if the value of the BST attribute is changed, the percentage of passengers who choose BST increases.

Every electronic device has a disadvantage that is heat generated from the components contained in the device while operating. The heat that occurs during the process can affect the effectiveness of these electronic devices. The cooling fan is directed to a heat source from an electronic device with the aim of maintaining the device's performance temperature. However, the cooling fan used still has some disadvantages in terms of dimensions. Therefore, research on synthetic jets is carried out as an innovation in cooling. This study aims to find wave characteristics as a source. Optimum frequency selection to support cooling. As well as the ideal height of synthetic jets to heat sources. The method used in the research is direct and computer-based data retrieval for CFD. The use of triangular waves as a source of cooling with a frequency of 80 Hz at an altitude of 8 cm can reduce rapidly. However, the lowest final temperature comes from a height of 2 cm which is 28.1 C. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Climate change has affected the whole world and caused disasters, include drought. Since Tana Mbanas village in Central Sumba District is the driest remote area in eastern region of Indonesia, gender inequality has affected in daily life of people in the village instead of other social and environmental problems. This research aimed to evaluate how gender mainstreaming implemented in drought disaster risk reduction in Tana Mbanas village in Central Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The result of the research is expected to become a mirror that reflects Sumba island gender and development issues. The research took place in Tana Mbanas village in Central Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, and conducted by qualitative method with purposive data sampling. The steps taken in the research were observation, data collecting by questionnaire and in-depth interview to respondents, and literature review. It was reported that Tana Mbanas village people has given water management assistance by village fund, conducting water management counselling, saving water, and harvesting rain systems in every household. This research meets conclusions that: (1) Several programs and planned actions in water supply system and infrastructure development have become initiatives of government agencies of village authorities, BPBD and Public Work Agency of Central Sumba Regency;(2) People demonstrated vulnerability to drought as well as lack of water supply and also water resources;(3) Strong efforts should be conducted to educate people and increase women capacity in coping issues of poverty, drought, and lack of water supply;and (4) Government agencies and other private institutions have to build women capacity as their participation in enhancing gender equality and mainstreaming gender. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The role of Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) is critical to maintain cost-efficient in smart grids, as the predictive maintenance means for ensuring their reliability. Java Bali grid is the most important power network in Indonesia, because it holds 75% energy sales and the foundation of the Indonesian government, business and industrial sectors. One method for prediction in the machine learning is the Linear Regression, as part of the Supervised Learning technique. The regression model extracts the grid overload variable from MV distribution system, where connected load (MVA) divided by the number of MV customers. The model constructs the Linear Regression function, where the slope and intercept values found from the correlation between predicted response and actual response. After confronting the function f(x) and the coefficient of determination (R2), the test results for the MTTF prediction values for Java-Bali’s region shows the higher accuracy when the R2 shows highest value.
