The Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD) has experienced significant morpho logical changes over decades, resulting in profound socioeconomic and environmental conse quences. This study investigated the VMD’s spatial and temporal morphological alterations from 1998 to 2020, utilizing four bathymetric datasets and remote sensing techniques. The ana lysis revealed that the average annual riverbed incision rate in the Tien and Hau Rivers dimin ished from-0.19 m/year (1998–2005) to-0.11 m/year (2005–2017) and further dropped to-0.10 m/year (2017–2020). The upper reaches of the Tien and Hau Rivers exhibited pronounce deepening over the three periods, whereas their lower reaches witnessed a converse trend. Add itionally, the study unveiled the average annual riverbank migration rate along the VMD, ran ging from 5 m/year to-5 m/year during the same examined periods. Notably, the dynamic processes of erosion and deposition intensified between 2017 and 2020. This research aims to provide crucial insights for refining sediment management strategies in the VMD. © 2025 The Author(s).

Biocoagulants have gained attention as an alternative to chemical coagulants in water and wastewater treatment due to their ability to remove pollutant parameters such as turbidity, suspended solids, color, and organic compounds. Plant-based biocoagulants are currently the most promising due to their abundant availability and reliable performance. A proper preparation of plant-based biocoagulants is required to ensure the active compounds from the plants can be extracted. Plant raw materials are prepared into biocoagulants using drying and grinding, extraction, and purification. In mechanical preparation, drying and grinding exhibit great influence on the performance of plant-based biocoagulants due to the removal of moisture and higher contact with the carrier medium during dissolution. A smaller biocoagulant's size resulted in up to 78 % higher removal of turbidity. In chemical preparation, the oil needs to be removed before extracting the active ingredients to avoid low active compound extraction yields. The defatting of Moringa oleifera seeds showed an 18 % higher protein content. Salt and alcohol extractions were mentioned as superior extraction methods to obtain carbohydrate and protein from plant-based biocoagulants compared to water extraction, with up to a 5 % increment in turbidity removal. Preparation and pretreatment protocols have a great influence on the properties and performance of plant-based biocoagulants. Further extension of research on plant-based biocoagulants should address the problems in the initial characterization of plant material, standard pretreatment and preparation protocols, and real-scale application of plant-based biocoagulants. © 2023 The Author(s)

Preliminary study of increasing added value in basalt rocks as raw material for making basalt fiber (Fiber Basalt Reinforced Composite)

West Java has mining materials from volcanic activities including andesite and basalt. This mining materialis used conventionally as a building (construction) material which is still in the form of ’raw materials’ or ’semi-finished’ so that its use is only carried out simply and the selling value is low. To increase its selling value, basalt rock can be used as a composite construction material in the form of fibers, including composites with the strengthening of basalt fibers (Fiber Basalt Reinforced Composite). This study aims to see the characteristics of basalt rocks that can be made fibers in 3 locations in the Bandung area (Gunung Bohong, Cipatik and Batu Templek) including the characteristics of chemical composition, physical and mechanical properties and mineral composition. The research methodology was carried out by a comparative method by looking at the characteristics of other basalt rocks that can already be used as basalt fibers, namely chemical composition (Al2O3 and SiO2) with the XRF method, testing physical (density) and mechanical properties (tensile strength and Elastic Modulus) and mineral composition with petrography analysis methods by looking at the plagioclase mineral. Based on chemical analysis, of the three samples studied, they were included in the criteria for basalt rocks that can be used for the manufacture of basalt fibers, but in these samples there were chemical compounds that were not included in the criteria, namely the Fe2O3 + FeO and MgO compounds. Then the characteristics of physical properties that are included in the criteria for making basalt fibers are in the Cipatik and Batu Templek samples. Meanwhile, the mechanical properties that are included in the criteria are in the Gunung Bohong and Cipatik samples. Furthermore, for petrography testing, it was concluded that the mineral composition in the three samples studied contained plagioclase minerals by 100%. Rukun Makmur is one of the SMEs in the fisheries sector that cultivates freshwater ornamental lobsters. In 2019, the sales of Rukun Makmur MSMEs increased. However, in 2020, Rukun Makmur MSMEs experienced the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic, resulting in a decline in sales. Therefore, this study aims to provide a proposed development strategy for MSMEs in Rukun Makmur. The analytical approach used is the tools in the form of CPM (Competitive Profile Matrix), BCG Matrix (Boston Consulting Group), Grand Strategy Matrix, and IE Matrix (Internal-External). As for the decision-making method, namely QSPM (The Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix). The result of this research is that UMKM Rukun Makmur, compared to competitors, is in second place after UMKM C with a score of 3,013. Then, Rukun Makmur’s MSME market growth of -0.339 was in the medium position and the low position for its market share with a relative market share of 0.49. In addition, MSME Rukun Makmur is in the Hold and Maintain quadrant with a total IFE of 2,725 and an EFE of 2,482. The final result is a Development Strategy prioritized for Rukun Makmur SMEs: Market Penetration with TAS 6,587, Related Diversification with TAS 6,067, and Product Development with TAS 5,687.

Climate change causes changes at the beginning of the rainy season and the dry season. In Microhydro planning, determining the rainy season's right start is very important to determine the energy potential. The beginning of the dry season is an excellent time to start carrying out structural work. This research was conducted in Kalijirak River, Mount Bromo Forest and Karanganyar Regency, a forest protected by the Indonesian government. The survey shows that the river flow is up to 1,458 m3/s in the dry season. This discharge is the potential to generate electrical energy. The construction must build in the dry season. This research aims to determine the beginning of the rainfall season to know the potential energy can generate and the beginning of the dry season to schedule the construction-analysis of seasonal changes based on rainfall intensity while analyzing energy potential based on dependable discharge. The rainfall-runoff simulation uses the Mock method to produce a dependable discharge. The results show that the beginning of the November rainy season period second means that the rainy season shifts back four periods, and the beginning of the dry season in May period 2 means the dry season shifts back four periods). This means, if the season moves late, the start of construction is also late. It late up to four Periode. Besides that, it also shows that the annual energy potential is 64,774,372 kWh. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Based on the results of the questionnaire distributed to Primary Teacher Education Students, 96% of students said that Physics is difficult to understand because the material is very complex, many formulas, especially the learning process is done online. This study aims to describe the influence of providing feedback on the motivation of Primary Teacher Education Students in primary school physics courses. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Meanwhile, the instrument used was a questionnaire which was distributed to 115 elementary school education students. The result of the research shows that giving feedback consistently is able to motivate students. This can be seen from the results of the questionnaires distributed, each indicator is of very good value. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Identification of high safety risks in box girder bridge construction to develop a safety plan for elevated railway projects

Indonesia is active in infrastructure development, especially the railway infrastructure. Currently, there are a lot of elevated railway construction projects and there are many construction accidents in elevated construction. Different construction methods in elevated construction lead to different safety risks. Therefore, it is necessary to identify safety risks, especially high risks. The main objective of this research is to identify high safety risks in box girder construction on elevated railway projects. This research was designed in 3 main stages, starting from risk identification, expert validation, and risk assessment survey. The main variable is the safety risk in box girder construction with launching gantry, heavy shoring, and cast in situ method. The project reviewed is the Double Track (DDT) Railway Project in Jakarta. The result of the analysis shows that there were some high safety risks in box girder construction with launching gantry method, heavy shoring method, and cast in situ method i.e. traffic accident, hit by heavy equipment, fall from a height, struck down by material, wire hanger broke, formwork collapse, heavy shoring collapse, heavy equipment overturned and collapsed and struck down by box girder. The result of this research can be a determinant in the development of good construction safety planning for the next elevated railway project.

Analysis of user satisfaction to the traditional shipping service at Oliong Port of Bagansiapiapi

Traditional shipping is an important part of national sea transportation potency, that playing main roles to serve inland areas, remote and outer islands in Indonesia. Oliong Port of Bagansiapiapi is the one that provides short-distance traditional shipping services for island-people in Rokan Hilir Regency. The purpose of this study was to assess the user satisfaction to traditional shipping services at the Port Oliong of Bagansiapiapi, in order to arrange future improvement policies. The method of Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) applied to assess the level of satisfaction and importance of each indicators of the traditional shipping service. There are six service indicators involved, i.e. connectivity, intermodality, travel time, travel cost, safety and security. Results from CSI analysis show that the value of user satisfaction about 79% (in the range of Moderate Level of Satisfaction category with CSI Value from 50% to 80%). IPA analysis recommend that the indicators of Travel Costs and Safety which in quadrant-I as the top priority to improve, while safety indicator which in quadrant-IV only need to be maintain its performance.

Stress is a psychological response that must be handled properly, or it can affect psychology and trigger other complicated diseases. Nowadays, stress measured by filling out stress-related forms or interviews with a psychologist. This method still requires a willingness from the patient to consult their condition, which is often not giving the best result due to late treatment. Therefore, we need a system to monitor a person’s stress level conditions independently so they could be threatened quickly if their state gets worsen. One of the non-invasive methods that can be used to measure stress is an Electrodermal Activity (EDA) sensor. EDA is known to be associated with sweat gland activity regulated by SudoMotor Nerve Activity (SMNA), which response to a stressor. However, the SMNA need to decompose into the Skin Conductance Response (SCR) before it could represent stress condition. Hence, the decomposition stage is essential in measuring the quality of the stress condition. In this study, the EDA sensor placed in the palm to obtain the skin conductivity signal. Then, the skin conductivity signals were deconvolved using the Continuous Deconvolution Analysis (CDA) method to capture the SCR. CDA was chosen because it could produce a zero-based line SCR driver and could separate two overlapping peaks in SCR. The result, CDA is adequate to extract SCR, which is shown by the zero baseline of the SCR driver line with a clear peak. The clear SCR peaks are essential for identifying the responses related to the stimulus (stressor). © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Plastic consumption has increased tremendously over the years due to their versatility which enables them to be used in various industries. However, the properties of plastics which are non-biodegradable have created serious environmental problems especially polluting the oceans, harming marine organisms, and putting them at risks of extinction. At the same time, conventionally used construction materials such as clay bricks and concrete blocks also lead to other environmental issue such as the over-utilization of natural resources and emission of greenhouse gases. In current study, waste polyethylene terephthalate was used as a sand replacement in the production of interlocking concrete blocks for masonry wall application. Concrete mixtures with various percentages of PET were produced and evaluated for compressive strength and split tensile strength. In addition, microstructural characterization was also performed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The recycling of waste PET in the production of concrete interlocking blocks will produce sustainability in the construction industry. © 2021 IEEE.
