study region: Guwahati, Assam, India. study focus: Increasing frequency of flash floods highlights the critical necessity for a reliable flood forecasting system to minimize potential human and property losses. Numerical Weather Prediction models plays crucial role in informed decision-making and risk mitigation, especially the challenge of flood forecasting, which requires precise and high-resolution precipitation forecasts. This study delves into a detailed parameter sensitivity analysis to improve the accuracy of precipitation forecasts within a mesoscale urban climate. By conducting simulations using Weather Research and Forecasting model, coupled with Local Climate Zone map, research concentrates on refining mesoscale simulations tailored for urban climates. New hydrologic insights for the region: Model performance is thoroughly assessed by comparing the simulated precipitation data from WRF model with observed MSWEP data. This study explores application of a multi-criteria-based decision-making method, TOPSIS analysis. Based on TOPSIS analysis, among 10 combinations of Microphysics and Planetary Boundary Layer schemes, WSM6-MYJ, WSM6-BL, and WSM5-MYJ configurations consistently emerged as the most effective across all significant rainfall events. These combinations demonstrated strong correlation coefficients of 0.96, 0.76, and 0.94, respectively. Correspondingly, their RMSE (in mm) values were found to be 1.72, 1.5, and 2. The findings of this research offer valuable guidance for selecting parameterization schemes to enhance the precision of urban atmospheric simulations, consequently improving predictive capabilities and assisting in resilience development against extreme weather events. © 2025 The Authors

Regional Water Supply Company (RWSC) of Ternate City is a company managed by the local government which in its operation needs to prioritize the fulfillment of clean water for communities. Therefore the services of RWSC should based on the standards of quality service provided by the National Agency for the Improvement of Drinking Water Supply System. On the other side, the demand for clean water supply and services is increasing every year. This is caused by an increase in population and the development of cities or service areas relating to the improvement of the socio-economic. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of water supply service providers in Ternate City. Data analysis based on the guidelines from the National Agency for the Improvement of Drinking Water Supply System involves several indicators such as the financial aspects, service aspects, operational aspects, and aspects of human resources. The result shows that the score of the financial reaches 0.92, the service aspect 0.88, the operational aspect 0.88, and the human resource aspect 0.52. These results show that the performance of Regional Water Supply Company (RWSC) of Ternate City achieves score 3.2 and it indicates that the performance of Regional Water Supply Company (RWSC) of Ternate City in the healthy category.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most pressing health concerns because so many people are afflicted by its disabling symptoms. Factors such as age, excess body fat, insufficient physical activity, a history of diabetes in one's family, a sedentary lifestyle, an unhealthy diet, hypertension, etc., all increase the likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus. Health complications are more common in people with diabetes, including cardiovascular disease, renal failure, stroke, blindness, and nerve injury. To validate a diagnosis of diabetes, hospitals typically perform a battery of procedures on the patient. Big data analytics has many vital applications in the healthcare sector. Numerous large computer systems are used in the healthcare sector. With the help of big data analytics, researchers can sift through mountains of data in search of previously unseen patterns and insights. Current techniques have a poor degree of precision in classification and forecast. While previous research has focused on factors such as glucose, body mass index, age, insulin, etc., the proposed model takes these into account and also the other factors that may be more relevant to the development of diabetes. The newer sample is superior to the older one based on categorization accuracy. A workflow algorithm for diabetes prognosis is also required to improve the accuracy.

Red algae (Rhodophyceae) Kappaphycus alvarezii is a species of macroalgae/seaweed that produces kappa-carrageenan which is intensively used in many industries. K. alvarezii is currently a leading commodity in the province of NTT because it makes a significant contribution to the income of the community and the region. The growth and content of carrageenan are strongly influenced by environmental conditions, especially related to farming habitat. The aimed of the study were to analyze the growth and carrageenan content of K. alvarezii different varieties cultured using different method and different habitat. For growth data, samples were taken every 7 days for 49 days (7 weeks), for each variety, method, and habitat. Sampling was carried out with 3 (three) replications for each treatment, by taking as many as 15 bonds at random. The initial weight of the seeds used was 100 gr. For carrageenan content, dry samples were taken at random from the 49-day-old K. alvarezii harvested. Each treatment (variety, method, and habitat) was taken with 3 (three) replicates at random. The results showed that for growth, varieties of Sacol Semau and Tissue culture Rote gave better specific growth compared to the other. The plants farmed using the longline method in the sand habitat gave better growth. for carrageenan, the Tambalang green variety from tissue culture from Semau gave the highest value, namely 56.71%. longline method. For different habitats, K. alvarezii cultivated in sand habitats gave higher carrageenan content (an average of 55.15%) than in seagrass habitats. The ANOVA results showed that in terms of growth, K. alvarezii cultivated in sand habitat showed higher very significantly different (p≤0.05; p≤0.01), compared to the one with seagrass habitat; while in terms of carrageenan contents, the interaction between different varieties cultivated with different methods and habitats showed no significant effect (p≤0.05; p≤0.01).

Traffic noise assessment in urban Bulgaria using explainable machine learning

Fine-grained noise maps are vital for epidemiological studies on traffic noise. However, detailed information on traffic noise is often limited, especially in Eastern Europe. Rigid linear noise land-use regressions are typically employed to estimate noise levels;however, machine learning likely offers more accurate noise predictions. We innovated by comparing the predictive accuracies of supervised machine learning models to estimate traffic noise levels across the five largest Bulgarian cities. In situ A-weighted equivalent continuous sound levels were obtained from 232 fixed-site monitors across these cities. We included transport- and land-use-related predictors using 50-1,000 m buffers. Extreme gradient boosting (XGB) had the highest ten-fold cross-validated fit (R2=0.680) and the lowest root mean square error (RMSE=4.739), insignificantly besting the random forest-based model (R2=0.667, RMSE=4.895). Support vector regression (R2=0.633, RMSE=5.358), elastic net (R2=0.568, RMSE=5.625), and linear regression (R2=0.548, RMSE=5.569) performed significantly worse. Shapley values for the XGB showed that the length of major roads within 100 m buffers, footways within 50 m buffers, residential roads within 50 m buffers, and the number of buildings within 50 m buffers were important non-linear predictors. Our spatially resolved noise maps revealed striking geographic noise variations and that, on average, 96.8% of the urban population experiences harmful noise levels. © 2025, CC BY.

Oil-Palm industry produces some side products as solid waste which consist of 23% empty oil palm bunches, 6.5% oil palm shell, and 13% fiber from the main products. Reusing oil palm waste is very important to increase economic value and reduce potential pollution. One of the ways to exploit Oil Palm Shell (OPS) byproduct is to substitute the uses of natural coarse aggregate in concrete structure as building material. study on the use fly ash as one of the admixtures to increase OPS concrete compressive strength has been conducted. Digital Image Correlation (DIC) as a method of displacement response measurement was applied. Fujifilm XA-3 was used as primary camera to capture the image with speed of 3 frames per second (fps). An open source 2D-DIC, Ncorr v1.2 and MatLab student version of R2020a were used. The obtained average compressive strength is 25 MPa, the average of stiffness of the specimens is 946.95 kN/mm and the average of Poisson Ratio is 0.22 (range 0.21-0.22).

Treating and reusing wastewater has become an essential aspect of water management worldwide. However, the increase in emerging pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are presented in wastewater from various sources like industry, roads, and household waste, makes their removal difficult due to their low concentration, stability, and ability to combine with other organic substances. Therefore, treating a low load of wastewater is an attractive option. The study aimed to address membrane fouling in the submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR) used for wastewater treatment. An aluminum electrocoagulation (EC) device was combined with SMBR as a pre-treatment to reduce fouling. The EC-SMBR process was compared with a conventional SMBR without EC, fed with real grey water. To prevent impeding biological growth, low voltage gradients were utilized in the EC deviceThe comparison was conducted over 60 days with constant transmembrane pressure and infinite solid retention time (SRT). In phase I, when the EC device was operated at a low voltage gradient (0.64 V/cm), no significant improvement in the pollutants removal was observed in terms of color, turbidity, and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Nevertheless, during phase II, a voltage gradient of 1.26 V/cm achieved up to 100%, 99.7%, 92%, 94.1%, and 96.5% removals in the EC-SMBR process in comparison with 95.1%, 95.4%, 85%, 91.7% and 74.2% removals in the SMBR process for turbidity, color, COD, ammonia nitrogen (NH3–N), total phosphorus (TP), respectively. SMBR showed better anionic surfactant (AS) removal than EC-SMBR. A voltage gradient of 0.64 V/cm in the EC unit significantly reduced fouling by 23.7%, while 1.26 V/cm showed inconsistent results. Accumulation of Al ions negatively affected membrane performance. Low voltage gradients in EC can control SMBR fouling if Al concentration is controlled. A mould manufacturer is one of the examples of a make-To-order industry. Therefore, a quotation is very important as the response to the customer order and should be prepared very fast and accurately. Thus, this research focuses on developing the estimation model various mould maker industry for the long-Term. Another development is determining whether the product is complex or not by using certain criteria. To be able to be used in a different company for the long-Term, the configuration is made so that the company may change the software setting based on certain situations. For determining complex products, the software should check all product inputs with the criteria and give notes for the product which exceed the limit of the criteria. Then, the software will be validated and verified. The validation is done by comparing the manual calculation with the software calculation result. The verification is done by comparing the manual calculation with software calculation with different settings. The result shows no difference between manual and software calculations. Finally, the software is used to estimate some engineering drawings as inputs and compared with the actual time as a case study. © 2019 IEEE.

Optimization of vertical spacing between each row of a vertical shelf to meet minimum sunlight requirement for strawberries

Vertical farming (VF) allows for more plants to be cultivated in a particular land area, maximizing land-use efficiency. VF employs multileveled shelves enabling crops to be planted at each level. This paper aims to develop an optimization model that could generate a required setup of a vertical shelf that would meet the sunlight requirements of strawberries. Firstly, the simulation model was developed using Rhino (Rhinoceros) software with Grasshopper plugin, which can predict the sunlight availability at each VF shelf level. The model is validated by the experiment in Chiang Mai province, Thailand, at an elevation higher than 310 m above mean sea level. The experiment set up of the VF shelf with three levels was constructed, and the solar radiation values were recorded and validated against the radiation predicted by the model. The validated model is used to simulate the sunlight radiation on each level of the shelf for different shelf designs with varying vertical spacings between each level. These sets of predicted radiation values and vertical spacings are used to train the ANN (Artificial Neural Network) model. The ANN simulation model was developed using MATLAB software with Simulink and Neural Net Fitting App. The trained ANN model has an MSE (Mean Squared Error) of 0.00019621 and an R (the correlation coefficient) value of 0.9992. As a result, the optimization model could successfully give out the vertical spacing between each level of the VF shelf with an input of desired sunlight availability on each level. For the PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) of 600 µmol/m2/s on both levels, the spacing should be 51.34 cm from the top to the middle (y1) and 48.69 cm from the middle to the bottom (y2). To receive 600 and 500 µmol/m2/s on the middle and bottom level respectively, the levels should be placed 66.77 cm (y1) and 30.89 cm (y2) apart.
