Meteorological data implications modeling on evapotranspiration variability in arid and semi-arid zones in Saudi Arabia using hybrid metaheuristic

This work is unique and contributes new knowledge to the field whereas it involves introducing a new method based on coupling two or three stochastic models, analyzing new data represented by drought and flooding risk relationship, and addressing a previously unexplored research question: Can we make a decision regarding future evapotranspiration-flooding risk relationship? In this paper, the Bat algorithm (BAT) with the Newton Method (NM), Bird Swarm Algorithm (BSA), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Chicken Swarm Optimization Algorithm (CSO) are used as a hybrid model in arid and semi-arid zones in Saudi Arabia as well as for modeling rainfall, temperature, and solar radiation implications on evapotranspiration variability. Coupling between aridity and evapotranspiration over a long time can create flooding risks. This holistic modeling aims to reduce flooding risks and ensure the desired decision. Several models were employed to simulate some basins’ Potential and Actual evapotranspiration as case studies. The meteorological inputs of the hybrid models were calibrated and validated with metric evaluation for input and output of evapotranspiration, respectively. The results suggest that the application of a hybrid model can improve the accuracy of evapotranspiration simulations in terms of statistical parameters, whereas BAT–GA–NM reduced MAPE from 38.88 to 4.16% for Mekkah and from 14.94 to 2.04% for Medina and NSCE from − 0.17 to 0.97 for Mekkah and from 0.82 to 0.99%. Those parameters will provide a better understanding of evapotranspiration processes in watersheds and valuable information for early warnings of flooding risks. © The Author(s) 2025.

The Structural Health Monitoring System is part of tool and method for bridge operation and maintenance to make sure that the bridge is in good condition. Deflection is one of the main parameters to be measured and various methods has been introduced to measure deflection. Accuracy and economically are two main aspects when selecting the method for determine the real time deflection. This study presents a method of determining the maximum deflection of simple span continuous bridge using strain data obtained from a strain gauge sensor for simple span steel box girder bridge. Initial data were obtained from FEM simulations under various load conditions to obtain the maximum deflection value and the strain value. Linear regression and quadratic regression were carried out to obtain the relationship between the strains data and the maximum deflection. The accuracy of the maximum deflection value is then compared with the results of the analysis using FEM. It was found that the accuracy is about 91.16 % for quadratic regression and 9.07 for linear regression 90.93 %.

Transformer is one of the main components in distribution system of electrical power system towards the consumers, thereby any damage to the transformers will hinder the distribution of electricity towards the consumers, and in turn will make the SAIDI and SAIFI levels go up. High temperature in transformers can cause degradation in the insulation of transformers which in turn will cause failure in transformers. When the temperature in winding reaches or goes beyond the limit of 110°C, a degradation in insulation will start happening and the remaining life of transformers will decrease. Damage in transformers will cause disturbance in electrical power system and result in a major economic loss. Before damages occur, transformers need to be changed up until it is deemed to be no longer efficient, this can be done by replacing the transformer that is about to be damaged. To predict when a transformer is about to break, a calculation is made based on thermal modelling according to IEEE Std C57.91-1995 with its most prominent variable being Hot Spot Temperature (HST). HST is obtained by MATLAB programming using Annex G of IEEE Std. C57.91-1995. By obtaining HST, thus the remaining lifetime of transformers can be predicted. This study analysed the effect of loading, hot-spot temperature, and ambient temperature on the remaining lifetime of a transformer. The higher those three factors, the quicker the transformer will break, with loss of life percentage increasing exponentially. The highest loading, hot spot temperature, and ambient temperature given in this research gives percent loss of life of 0.0888332%, 0.0193394%, 0.020753% respectively. © 2019 IEEE.

Lean construction (LC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) support an integrated vision for short cycle plan-do-check-act cycles of planning and control in construction. However, operations control tasks, such as delivery of design information to the =field, monitoing, progress evaluation and error detection are still largely manual and thus time consuming, costly and error-prone. Innovations in construction technologies can be applied to reduce cycle time, waste, construction errors and the rework that necessarily follows. In this context, we propose application of a projection and scanning technology to provide workers with real-time information and feedback regarding the quality and accuracy of their handiwork. The goal is to achieve proper quality in the first iteration, with fully automated inspection, and no *** a proof-of-concept, we demonstrate the system using an example of wall plastering. The result of plaster application is difficult to measure in conventional means, and errors are difficult to detect. Our system monitors the progress of the procedure(Field-to-BIM), evaluates the surface flatness and projects corrections onto the surface itself, after optimizing with respect to industry standards and tolerances (BIM-to-Field).We demonstrate the concept in an experimental setup using a Trimble™TX8 laser scanner and an angled adjustable *** results show high precision detection of wall flatness deviations, of up to 2 mm accuracy. © 2020

Availability of raw water is one of the problems faced in the provision of clean water services in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the quality of ordinary well water and drill water with physical parameters. The number of samples in this study were 12 drill wells and 12 ordinary wells belonging to residents in the City of Parepare and the total wells were 12 villages. The parameters observed refer to the Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation Number 479 / Menkes / Per / IV / 2010 concerning Water Quality Requirements and Supervision which includes physical parameters such as turbidity. Data collection methods used in this study were cross sectional or analyzed in South Sulawesi Provincial Health Laboratory Makassar. Based on the results of laboratory tests for measuring water quality as measured by one of the physical parameters, namely turbidity, there is a difference in value between ordinary wells and boreholes. The turbidity values measured in ordinary wells are 3 villages that do not meet the requirements of clean water quality, where all of the results are above the maximum set level of> 5 NTU, the kelurahan is watang Soreang village, Lompoe village and Galung Maloang village while the turbidity value is measured in drill wells are the result that meets the requirements of clean water quality where the results do not exceed the maximum maximum set level of 5 NTU. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland. Public perceptions of spatial planning, residential selection, and tsunami preparedness efforts in Banda Aceh

In the last 7,500 years ago, at least 11 tsunamis have hit Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. However, Banda Aceh communities’ preparedness efforts has not been fully implemented in a sustainable manner. There is often little to no warning before a tsunami hits a nearby place. The initial planning, selection of evacuation zones, and maintaining of evacuation routes provide some of the basis of tsunami preparedness. This study attempts to evaluate how the people of Banda Aceh perceive the city’s spatial planning, the factors that influence where people choose to live, and tsunami preparedness measures. Data were obtained through questionnaire survey involving 305 household surveys. This study describes whether the community has received socialization about the City Spatial Plan and whether the planning has considered the tsunami hazard. This study also investigates the elements that influence people’s housing decisions, including determining if the tsunami hazard is still considered. This study is expected to assist the City Government in providing scholarly material related to aspects of tsunami mitigation.

Indonesia currently is facing an energy crisis due to depletion of oil reserves and rapid growth in conventional energy consumption. The declining fossil energy potential especially oil and gas has encouraged the government to put new renewable energy(NRE) as the main priority to maintain energy security for national supply in the future. NRE in Indonesia is generated from bioenergy power, hydro power, solar power, tidal power, wind power, and potential. However, NRE utilization in Indonesia is only about 11% from the total potential. This study assesses the hydropower production capacity of Ayung River Basin, the biggest Basin in Province of Bali. The assessment is carried out by utilizing global data that can be easily accessed. It was found that there are several potential mini-hydropower locations around the Ayung River Basin, with the biggest potential is around 2 MW.

Background: Bone destructions in the oral cavity are due to trauma, chronic infection, congenital malformations, or resection surgery, most often by using an autologous bone graft technique. The problem using this technique are limited donors and suppliers, high cost, host potential imune response becauce accepts foreign bone tissue also potential transmission diseases. Another solution in tissue engineering techniques is using the scaffold. Hidroxyapatite is one of the osteoconductive potentialy ceramic materials in scaffold fabrication. Objective: To prove that bovine teeth hydroxyapatite have characteristic as scaffold for bone tissue regeneration. Methods: HA was obtained by calcining bovine teeth at 1000°C for 3 hours, Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FTIR) test , Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) test and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) test. Results: Bovine teeth hydroxyapatite to showed of hydroxyl, phosphate and carbonate functional groups (FTIR test). Average Ca/P=1.97. Conclusion: Hydroxyapatite from bovine teeth has potency as scaffold through the chemistry and physical characteristics.

Indonesia is a country consisting of several islands some of which are still not covered by electricity. It is this source of PV that can be used to meet the needs of people who are not yet affordable with PLN electricity. Basically, PV includes the generation of new renewable energy types. This new form of energy comes from sunlight. Using semiconductor materials can convert energy from sunlight to electrical energy. Because in Indonesia this includes tropical climates located on the equator line, making Indonesia has a very high intensity of light. Several factors affect electrical energy, namely the extent of PV to be used, the total irradiance received by PV, the decrease in performance due to weather and cleanliness of the PV used such as snow and oiliness. In this study explained the Analysis of Irradian-based Grid Tie photovoltaic performance with Polycrystalline PV types. Taking irradian data using a Solar Power Meter, irradiance and temperature data at a certain time will use the Incremental Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method, DC-DC boost converter, inverter, voltage source converter (VSC) using algorithm and equipment controls connected to network. This research is simulated using Matlab with the Simulink program. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2019.

Generally, the electrical power supply acts as a voltage source only but many applications, current sources are needed. In conventional methods, to provide a current source, an electric power supply with variable voltage is adjusted to give the amount of current. In some electrical applications and devices, there is a demand to have a constant voltage with a variable current. This paper proposes a single phase alternating current controller as a power supply with a current source that can be adjusted using the hysteresis method. The advantage of the hysteresis method is that the electric current can follow changes in setting values and have a good response to any changes in the load given. This method, the actual current can follow the reference flow as needed. During testing, the inverter has succeeded in producing 3 Ampere 50 Hz at the output voltage of 50 Volt which is sent to the load. In applications, the proposed power supply is useful as an inverter to convert DC current into AC current. Furthermore, this proposed inverter has the opportunity as a renewable energy resource converter to convert direct current from photovoltaic to alternating current for various electronic devices in industries and households. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2019.
