Characterization of recycled crumb rubber modified binders containing wax warm additives

This paper addresses the laboratory experiment of performance properties of recycled CRM binders containing artificially aged CRM binders with wax additives. The warm CRM binders were produced using two wax additives （LEADCAP and Sasobit） and then shortterm and long-term aged using the rolling thin film oven （RTFO） and pressure aging vessel （PAV） procedures. The recycled CRM binders were aged through the RTFO and PAV pro- cedures. A set of Superpave binder tests were carried out on the binders through the rotational viscometer, the dynamic shear rheometer （DSR）, and the bending beam rheometer （BBR）. In general, the results of this study indicated that （1） the addition of longterm aged （LTA） CRM binder can significantly increase the viscosity of the recycled CRM binders as expected, （2） the wax additives in recycled CRM binders were still effective to improve the viscosity and rutting properties even after experiencing the aging process, （3） the CRM binders containing wax additives showed the higher rutting resistance compared to the control CRM binders, （4） the recycled CRM binder containing wax additives was found to have less resistance to fatigue and low temperature cracking, （5） wax warm additives into the recycled CRM binders seemed to have a significant role for cracking properties, based upon their substantial amount.

Plastic pollution is a widespread issue that poses a threat to agroecosystems. Recent data on microplastic (MP) pollution from compost and its application to soil have highlighted the potential impact of micropollutants that may be transferred from compost. Thus, we aim with this review to elucidate the distribution-occurrence, characterization, fate/transport, and potential risk of MPs from organic compost to gain comprehensive knowledge and mitigate the adverse impacts of compost application. The concentration of MPs in compost was up to thousands of items/kg. Among micropollutants, fibers, fragments, and films are the most common, with small MPs having a higher potential to absorb other pollutants and cause harm to organisms. Various synthetic polymers, including polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyester (PES), and acrylic polymers (AP), have been widely used of plastic items. MPs are emerging pollutants that can have diverse effects on soil ecosystems, as they can transfer potential pollutants from MPs to compost and then to the soil. Following the microbial degradation scheme, the transfer chain from plastics to compost to soil can be broken down into main stages, i.e., colonization - (bio)fragmentation - assimilation - and mineralization. Microorganisms and adding biochar play an essential role during composting, which can be an effective solution to enhance MP degradation. Findings have shown that stimulating free radical generation could promote the biodegradation efficacy of MPs and possibly remove their occurrence in compost, thereby reducing their contribution to ecosystem pollution. Furthermore, future recommendations were discussed to reduce ecosystem risks and health challenges.

During the last two decades, dozens of ground motion records that differ from the types assumed in developing design spectra appear to have gone mostly unnoticed by the structural engineering community. These motions have occurred for a wide range of faulting mechanisms, and have been recorded at stations ranging from 0.3 to 90 km from the fault on sites with a wide range of properties. The records result in large spectral amplifications at periods as long as 5 s., with spectral displacements approaching 4 meters for damping ratios between 2 and 5 percent of critical. These displacements are 3 to 4 times what would have been expected on the basis of a standard design spectrum with a "nearly constant" displacement range starting at 2 to 3 s. Differences between the consensus approaches used in codes for drift demand at long periods and those that have been observed should make us wonder what drift demands these ground motions, rich in long-period components, could produce in tall buildings and structures with base isolation. In this note, we discuss the features of "long-period" ground motions and their potential consequences in an attempt to invite examination of the problem by the engineering community. © 11th National Conference on Earthquake engineering 2018. Assessment of safety performance level on simple urban residential building: Case study at Bogor city Indonesia

Simple urban residential building must meet the technical requirements set forth in the building and structure law number 28 of 2002. In the city of Bogor, especially in the densely populated village of Kayumanis, there are areas that have the potential of landslides. In that area, there are some houses that have been damaged by the movement of land and landslides that can threaten the safety of its inhabitants. Therefore they need to stay aware about potential collapse of several parts of house structures, and then understand how to evacuate to safer area, outside of the house after the incident was stopped. Based on these conditions, it is necessary to evaluate buildings in accordance with FEMA on the safety level of buildings. The structure and modeling analysis using SAP 2000-V10 and Indonesia Standard. Specification of simple urban residential building using the reinforced concrete material with the quality of concrete (fc') 17 MPa, 15x15 cm column dimension, 15x18 cm beam dimension and 4D12 BJTP main reinforcement, and shear reinforcement D8-20. The results of the analysis of urban residential building structures shown in 3D form, obtained values for column structure elements almost close to failure are marked with orange color, while for the element of the beam structure is declared safe marked with green color. From result of modeling analysis referring to FEMA 356 obtained value C0 = 1.0; C1 = 1.378; C2 = 1.0; C3 = 1.0; Sa = 1.011; and Te = 0.2206, which states the value of the displacement target is 0.02 m which is categorized to be at 'The Life Safety' (LS) performance level. This means that if there is a movement of land, the structure of the house is declared stable and has adequate service capacity and damage non-structural part is still controlled.

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is a navigation system that uses satellite signals to determine its position, which consists of several satellites arranged in a constellation system. GNSS transmits signals to receivers on Earth. The GNSS receiver determines the user's position, speed, and time by processing the signals transmitted by the satellites. The initial purpose of launching the GNSS was for navigation purposes, but along with its development, GNSS can be used for the purposes of observing deformation of the earth's crust and in studying the atmosphere. The delayed wave data when passing through the ionosphere can be used to obtain Total Electron Content (TEC) values which then used to study ionospheric disturbances. Ionospheric disturbances are caused by various phenomena, the most common one is the ionospheric disturbances caused by the induction of acoustic and gravitational waves excited by co seismic crustal motions from large earthquakes. Ionospheric disturbances that happened before an earthquake are called Pre-seismic Ionospheric Disturbances and those that occur after an earthquake are called Co-seismic Ionospheric Disturbances (CID). Most studies of ionospheric disturbances still provide information on the timing and value of TEC anomalies in 2D form. Therefore, in this study, a 3D ionosphere profile modelling using computed 3D tomography will be carried out. The 3D information provided is in the form of time, ionosphere altitude and TEC anomaly value by utilizing GNSS data. The TEC anomaly value is obtained from the calculation of linear combination of the ionosphere. This study aims to obtain a spatial and temporal analysis of the CID caused by the West Sumatra Earthquake on March 2, 2016.

Investigating viable processes for the use of lignocellulosic biomass in clean fuels and high-value-added chemical products is essential for sustainable development. Large amounts of lignin are available every year as by-products of the paper and biorefinery industries, causing a series of problems, particularly environmental ones. Its structure and composition make lignin compatible with the concept of sustainability, since it can be used to produce new chemical products with high added value. As such, this study aims to extract lignin from green coconut fiber (LIG), with the subsequent impregnation of a sodium-octanoate-based surfactant (LIG-SUR), and determine its applicability as an adsorbent for removing copper ions from synthetic waste. To this end, the green coconut fiber lignocellulosic biomass was initially subjected to alkaline pre-treatment with 2% (w/v) sodium hydroxide in an autoclave. Next, the surface of the lignin was modified by impregnating it with sodium octanoate, synthesized from the reaction of octanoic acid and NaOH. The physical and chemical traits of the lignin were studied before and after surfactant impregnation, as well as after copper ion adsorption. The lignin was analyzed by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The adsorption tests were carried out using lignin pre-treated with surfactant in a batch system, where the effects of pH and adsorbent concentration were investigated. XRF and SEM analyses confirmed surfactant impregnation, with Na2O partially replaced by CuO after Cu2+ adsorption. FTIR analysis revealed shifts in O–H, C–H, C=O, and C=C bands, indicating electrostatic interactions with lignin. Adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model, suggesting chemisorption, with equilibrium reached in approximately 10 and 60 min for LIG-SUR and LIG, respectively. The Highway development projects currently being implemented in West Sumatra, Indonesia is important in increasing the competitiveness in the country's economy. At the same period, it will also give a positive impression such as being able to reduce the cost of transportation, increase the quality of life, the value of use and labour productivity. The project managers play an important role in the success of the project. There is a consensus that project managers increase the likelihood of project success even though their projects face major problems. In this paper, the focus is on identifying the competency of Highway Project Managers in West Sumatera in carrying out the Project Management concept that leads to project success. Based on that and in accordance with this study, the approach used in data collection and processing is a qualitative approach. The results of the factor analysis are shown to experts, to establish that all these factors are important in development the performance of a project managed by the Project Manager. The results of the factor analysis derive 31 factors that are validated by the experts. And all these factors are crucial in determining the performance of the Project Manager.

The rapid development of the industry by enhancing the development of power plants, fertilizers, oil & gas operated by integrated construction companies or engineering, Construction and Construction (EPC) companies, where EPC companies are required and have experience in planning and developing industrial projects. The higher technology and the sophistication of the design process that demands more need for skilled Human Resources i.e. Project Manager to handle and complete these projects. Project manager is responsible for the overall success of delivering the owner's physical development in cost constraints, schedules, quality, safety and environmental requirements. Therefore, they play an important role not only in the operating activities of engineering construction companies but also in the development of infrastructure in each country including Indonesia. Two stages of factor analysis were conducted on competence factors than the International framework of Project Manager Competences Development Framework and competence factor based on the basic theory of competence. There are 105 competence factors appeared from its analysis. All factors have validated by experts from the National Association of Design and Development of Indonesia (GAPENRI) as the Unity that manages EPC companies in Indonesia, Project Management Institute (PMI) Indonesian Chapter and Indonesian Project Management Specialist (IAMPI).

The science that underpins our knowledge and understanding of Isotope-Based Hydrograph separation (IHS) has gained grounds, over the last few decades, in the identification of streamflow sources. However, challenges still exist in identifying appropriate tracers and the right combination of end-members for the IHS process. In a two-component IHS analysis, the application of the dual isotopes tracers, δ18O and (or) δ2H, is regarded as the simplest method. We undertook an IHS study within a nested system of eight Prairie watersheds located in South central Manitoba, Canada. The work evaluated about 17,000 results emanating from the application of a combination of two potential tracers (δ18O and δ2H) and eight each of potential “old” and “new” water end-members in a two-component IHS process. The outcome showed occurrences of many mathematically possible but hydrologically unacceptable IHS results. The observation was particularly predominant within relatively larger perennial sub-catchments of the watershed. It is also shown that inter-site sub-catchment isotopic end-member transferability is possible within watersheds of similar physio-hydrographic characteristics. We suggest that a careful evaluation of the physio-hydrographic characteristics of catchments be considered in IHS studies in addition to the recommended guidelines in the selection of tracers and end-members.

Hexagonal turbostratic birnessite,with the characteristics of high contents of vacancies,varying amounts of structural and adsorbed Mn^（3＋）,and small particle size,undergoes strong adsorption reactions with trace metal（TM）*** the interactions of TM,i.e.,Zn^（2＋）,with birnessite are well understood,the effect of birnessite structural characteristics on the coordination and stability of Zn^（2＋）on the mineral surfaces under proton attack is as yet *** the present study,the effects of a series of synthesized hexagonal turbostratic birnessites with different Mn average oxide states（AOSs）on the coordination geometry of adsorbed Zn^（2＋）and its stability under acidic conditions were *** decreasing Mn AOS,birnessite exhibits smaller particle sizes and thus larger specific surface area,higher amounts of layer Mn^（3＋）and thus longer distances for the first Mn／O and Mn／Mn shells,but a low quantity of available vacancies and thus low adsorption capacity for Zn^（2＋）.Zn K-edge EXAFS spectroscopy demonstrates that birnessite with low Mn AOS has smaller adsorption capacity but more tetrahedral Zn（^（IV）Zn）complexes on vacancies than octahedral（^（VI）Zn）complexes,and Zn^（2＋）is more unstable under acidic conditions than that adsorbed on birnessite with high Mn *** Zn^（2＋）loading favors the formation of^（VI）Zn complexes over^（IV）Zn complexes,and the release of Zn^（2＋）is faster than at low *** results will deepen our understanding of the interaction mechanisms of various TMs with natural birnessites,and the stability and thus the potential toxicity of heavy metal pollutants sequestered by engineered nano-sized metal oxide materials.
