Prediction of damage potential in mainshock–aftershock sequences using machine learning algorithms

Assessing the potential damage caused by earthquakes is crucial for a community’s emergency *** this study,four machine learning(ML)methods—random forest,extremely randomized trees,AdaBoost(AB),and gradient boosting(GB)—were employed to develop prediction models for the damage potential of the mainshock(DIMS)and mainshock–aftershock sequences(DIMA).Building structures were modeled using eight single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF)systems with different hysteretic rules.A set of 662 recorded mainshock–aftershock(MS-AS)ground motions was selected from the PEER *** intensity measures(IMs)were chosen to represent the characteristics of the mainshock and *** results revealed that the selected ML methods can well predict the structural damage potential of the SDOF systems,except for the AB *** GB model exhibited the best performance,making it the recommended choice for predicting DIMS and DIMA among the four ML ***,the impact of input variables in the prediction was investigated using the shapley additive explanations(SHAP)*** high-correlation variables were sensitive to the structural period(T).At T=1.0 s,the mainshock peak ground velocity(PGVM)and aftershock peak ground displacement(PGDA)significantly influenced the prediction of *** T increased to 5.0 s,the primary high-correlation factor of the mainshock IMs changed from PGVM to the mainshock peak ground displacement(PGDM);however,the highcorrelation variable of the aftershock IMs remained *** high-correlation factors for DIMS showed trends similar to those of ***,a table summarizing the first and second high-correlation variables for predicting DIMS and DIMA were provided,offering a valuable reference for parameter selection in seismic damage prediction for mainshock–aftershock sequences.

Effect of lysozyme combined with hydrothermal pretreatment on excess sludge and anaerobic digestion

Anaerobic digestion(AD)is widely employed for sludge stabilization and waste ***,the slow hydrolysis process hinders methane production and leads to prolonged sludge *** this study,an efficient and eco-friendly lysozyme pre-treatment method was utilized to address these *** optimizing lysozyme dosage,hydrolysis and cell lysis were ***,lysozyme combined with hydrothermal pretreatment enhanced overall *** indicate that:(1)When lysozyme dosage reached 90 mg/g TS after 240 min of pretreatment,SCOD,soluble polysaccharides,and protein content reached their maxima at 855.00,44.09,and 204.86 mg/L,*** represented an increase of 85.87%,365.58%,and 259.21%compared to the untreated *** fluorescence spectroscopy revealed the highest fluorescence intensity in the IV region(soluble microbial product),promoting microbial metabolic activity.(2)Lysozyme combined with hydrothermal pretreatment significantly increased SCOD,soluble proteins,and polysaccharide release from sludge,reducing SCOD release *** experiments identified Group 3 as the most effective for SCOD and soluble polysaccharide release,while Group 9 released the most soluble *** significance order of factors influencing SCOD,soluble proteins,and polysaccharide release is hydrothermal temperature>hydrothermal time>enzymatic digestion time.(3)The lysozyme-assisted hydrothermal pretreatment group exhibited the fastest release and the highest SCOD concentration of 8,135.00 mg/L during anaerobic *** SCOD consumption and cumulative gas production increased by 95.89%and 130.58%,respectively,compared to the control group,allowing gas production to conclude 3 days earlier.

From ore to MOF: A case of MIL-100(Fe) production from iron ore concentrates

Within this work, iron ore concentrates instead of elemental iron Fe0and iron salts like Fe（NO3）3and FeCl3were selected as iron source to prepare MIL-100（Fe）(labeled as MIL-100（Fe）-ore). The corresponding synthesis cost is reduced to half of the MIL-100（Fe） produced from elemental iron and iron salts. As well, the unreacted iron ore concentrates can be easily separated from the as-prepared MIL-100（Fe）-ore by magnetic to facilitate the purification process, free of the strong acids to wash the residual iron. The as-obtained MIL-100（Fe）-ore with Langmuir surface area up to 2281.6 m2g-1displayed long-term chemical stability. Furthermore, the sorption capacity of MIL-100（Fe）-ore towards malachite green（MG） is up to 522.3 mg g-1at 25℃ and initial pH = 3.2, higher than that of MIL-100（Fe） yielded by conventional hydrothermal process. Finally, the production cost and life cycle assessment of MIL-100（Fe）-ore were compared with other traditional production procedures. The results revealed that our work greatly reduced the synthesis cost and enhanced the environmental sustainability.

Defective NH2-UiO-66 for effective Pb（Ⅱ） removal:Facile fabrication strategy,performances and mechanisms

Defective NH2-UiO-66 adsorbent（named as NH2-UiO-66-SD） was successfully fabricated via post-synthesis method with the aid of both sodium carbonate anhydrous（Na2CO3） and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid（DTPA）,in which the defective structure was confirmed by various *** as-obtained defective NH2-UiO-66-SD exhibited outstanding Pb（Ⅱ） sorption capacity(172.21 mg g-1) and rapid diffusion rate(29.87mg g-1min-0.5) at room temperature with optimal pH being *** Pb（Ⅱ） sorption behavior was conformed to pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir model,demonstrating that the chemical sorption of the monolayer played a dominant *** well,the thermodynamic parameters like standard Gibbs free energy change ΔG~o(-31.21 kJ mol-1),standard enthalpy change ΔH~o(12.79 kJ-1mol-1) and standard entropy change ΔS~o(146.73J mol-1K-1) revealed that the Pb（Ⅱ） sorption process of NH2-UiO-66-SD was spontaneous,endothermic and ***,the NH2-UiO-66-SD exhibited desirable desorption and recirculation performances（removal efficiencies>85 % in 5 runs） with ideal ***,the Pb（Ⅱ） sorption mechanism of NH2-UiO-66-SD mainly included the electrostatic attractions and coordinative ***,this work offered an intriguing method of fabricating defective NH2-UiO-66 adsorbent,which vastly enhanced adsorption efficiency for toxic metal ions elimination from wastewater.

Analyzing the characterization of pore structures and permeability of diesel contaminated clays under different aging conditions

In this study,mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)and X-ray micro-computed tomography(XRµCT)were used to characterize the pore structures and investigate the permeability characteristics of clay after aging and contamination with *** results of the MIP tests showed that aging leads to reductions in porosity and average diameter,as well as an increase in *** XRµCT analysis yielded consistent results;it showed that aging renders pores more spherical and isotropic and pore surfaces *** weakens the pore *** analysis revealed that aging led to the rearrangement of soil particles,tighter interparticle overlapping,and a reduction in pore *** combination of MIP and XRµCT provided a comprehensive and reliable characterization of the soil pore *** increased diesel content increased the porosity and average diameter and reduced the tortuosity of the *** analysis showed that aging weakens interparticle cohesion;this causes large agglomerates to break down into smaller agglomerates,resulting in a tighter arrangement and a subsequent reduction in *** increase in diesel content increases the number of large agglomerates and pore spaces between agglomerates,resulting in increased *** aging and diesel content can weaken the permeation characteristics of soil.

Mechanism analysis and prediction of longitudinal cut wave pattern resistance based on CFD simulation

Inspired by ITTC 2021(International Towing Tank Conference),this paper implements the Longitudinal Cut Method(LCM),a methodology to predict wave pattern resistance(R_(wp)),within Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)simulation to explore its mechanism and feasibility in predicting wave resistance(R_(w)).To accurately predict the free surface,a validation study,including the grid convergence index(GCI),wave profile,and wave pattern,is conducted for a Series 60 ship ***,R_(wp) is appropriately evaluated and compared with the *** influence of the transverse wave component on the LCM analysis is also ***,a comparison between the EFD(Experimental Fluid Dynamics)and CFD-based LCM is made through the analysis of the Wigley Catamaran,highlighting the advantages of the present ***,the limitations of the LCM theory are systematically discussed with the nonlinear bow wave analysis of a wall-sided ship model by introducing the local adaptive mesh refinement(LAMR)*** the fine hull form,LCM has been validated as a suitable methodology for directly predicting R_(w) and consequently the other primary resistance components(frictional resistance Rf and viscous pressure resistance Rpv)by one *** contrast,due to energy dissipation of the non-negligible nonlinear local field wave component in the downstream wake region,R_(w) could be underestimated for the full hull form.

Pedestrian wind flow prediction using spatial-frequency generative adversarial network

Pedestrian wind flow is a critical factor in designing livable residential environments under growing complex urban *** pedestrian wind flow during the early design stages is essential but currently suffers from inefficiencies in numerical *** learning,particularly generative adversarial networks(GAN),has been increasingly adopted as an alternative method to provide efficient prediction of pedestrian wind ***,existing GAN-based wind flow prediction schemes have limitations due to the lack of considering the spatial and frequency characteristics of wind flow *** study proposes a novel approach termed SFGAN,which embeds spatial and frequency characteristics to enhance pedestrian wind flow *** the spatial domain,Gaussian blur is employed to decompose wind flow into components containing wind speed and distinguished flow edges,which are used as the embedded spatial *** information of wind flow is obtained through discrete wavelet transformation and used as the embedded frequency *** spatial and frequency characteristics of wind flow are jointly utilized to enforce consistency between the predicted wind flow and ground truth during the training phase,thereby leading to enhanced *** results demonstrate that SFGAN clearly improves wind flow prediction,reducing Wind_MAE,Wind_RMSE and the Fréchet Inception Distance(FID)score by 5.35%,6.52%and 12.30%,compared to the previous best method,*** also analyze the effectiveness of incorporating the spatial and frequency characteristics of wind flow in predicting pedestrian wind *** reduces errors in predicting wind flow at large error intervals and performs well in wake regions and regions surrounding *** enhanced predictions provide a better understanding of performance variability,bringing insights at the early design stage to improve pedestrian wind *** proposed spatial-frequen

Experimental Study on Vortex-Induced Vibration of Rough Risers Coupling with Interference Effect in Tandem Arrangement

In order to study the response law of vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of marine risers under the combined action of roughness and interference effects,and to reveal the coupling mechanism of roughness and interference effects on the riser,a VIV experiment of rough risers in tandem arrangement was conducted in a wave−current combined *** experiment characterized the risers’roughness by arranging different specifications of attachments on the surface of the *** rough risers with different roughness and smooth risers were arranged in tandem arrangement,with the rough risers arranged *** experimental results indicate that the suppression of the attachments on the downstream risers’vibration are more significant both in the CF and IL directions as the reduced velocity *** the downstream riser,the amplitude response of rough riser is more significantly weakened compared with the smooth one at high reduced *** the upstream risers,changes in the roughness and spacing ratio have an impact on their‘lock-in’*** the roughness of downstream risers is relatively large(0.1300)and the spacing between risers is small(S/D=4.0),the reduced velocity range of‘lock-in’region in the CF direction of upstream risers is obviously expanded,and the displacement in the‘lock-in’region is severer.
