A myriad of materials, ranging from soft sensors to bone substitutes, undergo torsional loading throughout their operational lifespan, often produced using additive manufacturing (AM) technology due to its broad applicability. Understanding the torsional behavior of these AM components is paramount prior to their utilization. However, research concerning the torsional behavior of solid additively-manufactured resin polymers remains limited. To bridge this gap, 48 torsion specimens were fabricated using vat photopolymerization (VPP) with AnyCubic UV Tough Resin. These specimens varied in gage lengths (20, 40, 60, and 80 mm) and were subjected to five UV post-curing durations (0, 15, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes). Monotonic torsion was applied until failure at a rate of 0.1 revolutions per minute, revealing ductile failure patterns across specimens. Longer post-curing times correlated with increased torsional capacities and shear moduli, although conclusions regarding energy absorption per unit volume remained inconclusive. Additionally, a normalized trilinear model was proposed to characterize the behavior of additively-manufactured resin polymers under monotonic torsion, facilitating numerical simulation of material responses in finite element software. © 2024, The Authors. Flood is one of the natural disasters which has a high intensity in terms of occurrence. Despite the loss value in each event which is not as high as some natural disasters, such as earthquakes or tsunamis, the high occurrence of floods may cause high loss in total. Floods damage property and infrastructure, disrupt economic activity, displace people, harm communities, and degrade ecosystems. This study aims to compare the flood hazard model using Geomorphic Flood Index (GFI) and Multi-criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA). GFI is an established method which already used globally to identify the flood-prone area and the depth of the flood. The parameter needed to calculate GFI are the elevation, river network, and historical flood event. Meanwhile, the MCDA method tries to combine environmental, physical, and hydrographic factors, such as land use/land cover, precipitation, and runoff. The study area is Jatinangor District in Sumedang Regency which part of West Java Province, Indonesia. This location is chosen based on historical and potential flood events. Besides, Jatinangor District is the center of industry and commerce which Sumedang Regency is very dependent on. The finding of this study is expected to identify suitable methods for assessing flood hazards in Jatinangor or other areas with similar characteristics, between GFI and MCDA. © 2023 International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Systemic evaluation of spatio-temporal variations in travel time reliability due to a toll road over time

This paper evaluates the effectiveness of toll roads in reducing congestion and improving travel time reliability on streets within its vicinity, over time. The data, from the year 2013 to 2017, for the Triangle Expressway in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina was used in the systemic evaluation process. The spatial and temporal variations in the travel time distributions on the toll road, parallel route, and near-vicinity cross-streets (in a 2-mile buffer) were evaluated. The average travel time (ATT), the 95th percentile travel time (or planning time, PT), the buffer time (BT), and the buffer time index (BTI) were computed for each link by the day-of-the-week and the time-of-the-day. Though there was an improvement in travel time after the speed limit change in the year 2014, the travel time reliability got reduced on the Triangle Expressway. Over time, there was a gradual improvement in BT and BTI. The parallel route reliability decreased significantly over time, whereas the travel time reliability of cross-streets showed a consistent trend. The stabilization of travel time distributions and the reliability measures in the year 2017 indicate that further reduction in performance measures may not be expected in the next few years on the near-vicinity links. © 2020 The Author(s). Monotonic Torsion of Vat Photopolymerized Tough Resin Polymers: The Effects of Gage Length and Ultraviolet Post-Curing

Numerous materials, including soft sensors, microgrippers, metamaterials, bone substitutes, photopolymers, and functionally graded materials, undergo torsional loading throughout their service life. With the widespread adoption of additive manufacturing technology across various fields, many of the foregoing components are fabricated using additive manufacturing technology. Hence, it is essential to characterize the torsional behavior of additively-manufactured components before using them. More importantly, studies on additively-manufactured resin polymers are scarce, if any. To this end, the vat photopolymerization (VPP) technique was employed to fabricate 48 torsion specimens. These specimens were additively manufactured from the AnyCubic ultraviolet (UV) Tough Resin Material in a vertical build orientation. The study involved four different gage lengths: 20, 40, 60, and 80 mm. Additionally, five UV post-curing times (0, 15, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes) were considered as variables. Monotonic torsion was applied to the specimens at a rate of 0.1 revolutions per minute until failure. The results revealed that the failure patterns of all specimens were ductile. It was observed that longer post-curing times correlated with increased torsional capacities and shear moduli. However, no definitive conclusion could be drawn regarding the energy absorption per unit volume of the specimens. Furthermore, a normalized trilinear model was proposed to characterize the behavior of additively-manufactured resin polymers under monotonic torsion. This model is applicable for finite element software, enabling numerical simulation of the material’s response. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Promoting household adoption of water conservation behaviors (WCBs) has emerged as a vital strategic response to address water scarcity. Nevertheless, it is imperative to recognize that acceptance of residential WCBs relies on households' voluntary engagement, as are interventions designed to encourage households to become involved in such actions. Meanwhile, environmental psychology plays a key role in understanding individuals' WCBs and exploring the psychosocial determinants underlying these behaviors. Furthermore, the spread of technology and behavior among a population are known as a complex adaptive system (CAS), and agent-based modeling (ABM) offers a comprehensive and practical approach to studying CASs. Hence, the main aim of the present research is to introduce a novel, hybrid agent-based framework for simulating the adoption of residential WCBs, in which an extended model of the theory of planned behavior acts as household agents' behavioral rule for adopting water-efficiency behaviors (WEBs). The framework is also grounded in various theories rooted in psychological and social sciences. Moreover, the presented framework integrates ABM and structural equation modeling approaches. Although this study mainly focuses on WEBs, the framework includes a mechanism to update agents' water use based on their adoption level of water curtailment behaviors. Thus, the presented framework allows for simultaneously but separately exploring the preferred level of both types of WCBs among household agents. Jongkong reservoir creates a reservoir of water that is used for the purposes of raw water as fundamental media for improvement of drinking water production especially at dry season for the District of Koba. The advantage of being able to hold water in wet season and releasing it in dry season will be detained if the life storage of the reservoir can be utilized effectively, but sedimentation problem will decrease its volume which can influence the life time of reservoir. Finally the reservoir becomes less effective, so it is very important to study. The method which is used to predict an average erosion rate in the catchment area considers factors of rain erosivity, soil erodibility, ground inclination of slope or slope length, management of crop and land, soil conservation. Calculation was done by using the USLE equation (Universal Soil Loss Equation) which was developed by Wischmeier and Smith (1965, 1978). From this research result, the prediction of surface erosion rate in the basin catchment area in the year 2019 is equal to 53.20 mm/year or equivalent with 62,491.92 m3/year, and the value of Sediment Delivery Ratio (SDR) is equal to 32,28 %. The number of material which eroded is equal to 957.59 Ton/Ha/year so it is classified into the medium erosion class category. The dead storage of 5% of the the volume of the reservoir cage will be fully charged in the year 2022 or for 3 The next year and the total volume of the reservoir Ridge will be full of sediment in the year 2062 or 43 years. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper investigates the interactions between externally bonded FRP and high strength concrete substrate in small scale reinforced concrete beams strengthened with CFRP. The bond mechanism was assessed through beam-tests adapted from ASTM, designed to simulate normal and shear stresses induced at the FRP/concrete interface. The beams were 600 mm long, with a square 150 mm × 150 mm cross-section, two 5 mm steel reinforcing bars, 6.3 mm steel stirrups spaced 75 mm apart, one single layer of externally bonded CFRP, and concrete compressive strength of 30 MPa, 50 MPa, 80 MPa, or 90 MPa. The mechanisms of damage initiation and debonding propagation showed to be highly dependent on the load transferring and the stress redistribution after concrete cracking. The use of high concrete compressive strength affected the pre-cracking response, the stress transfer, and the overall ductility at failure, resulting in a less effective FRP strengthening scheme. For service conditions, the strains in the FRP were lower, the higher the concrete compressive strength. The FRP strains at failure were below the maximum strain level to avoid intermediate crack-induced debonding determined according to current design standards. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This study examines the application of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) in precast beam-column joints to improve structural performance. The studied joints included both adequately and inadequately reinforced conditions (strong and weak joints), constructed using UHPC and deformed rebars. The strong joints allowed the rebars to reach their yield strength under the design bending moment, effectively transferring loads and maintaining structural integrity during service conditions. These well-detailed joints exhibited ductile failure behavior, which is a desired characteristic in reinforced concrete design. In contrast, the weak joints experienced premature and brittle failures, underscoring the importance of proper detailing and reinforcement length. Finally, a practical design scheme was developed to determine the appropriate rebar lengths in UHPC connections to ensure structural integrity and safety. Overall, the integration of UHPC into precast concrete joints significantly enhanced bond performance, improved load transfer mechanisms, and contributed to more resilient and reliable construction practices. © 2025 The Authors

The Last Planner® System (LPS) of Production Control is widely acknowledged as fit to tackle the complexity of construction projects. However, the implications of complexity in the implementation of LPS itself have not been investigated. Those implications are investigated in this paper by exploring the gap between production planning and control-as-imagined and as-done at the look-ahead level. For that purpose, a case study was conducted in the refurbishment of a department store in which the LPS was implemented. Data collection involved document analysis, participant observation at the look-ahead and short-term planning meetings, and unstructured interviews. The Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) was used for modeling variability and interactions between the managerial functions at the look-ahead planning level. Results indicated several differences between production planning and control-as-imagined and as-done, which reflect hidden activities required for the removal of constraints. These activities took time and effort from managers and therefore they can partly explain why the LPS was not strictly followed as-imagined in theory. © Prof. Luis F. Alarcón and Assoc.
