This work proposes a novel method for scaling multi-timestep security-constrained optimal power flow in large power grids. The challenge arises from dealing with millions of variables and constraints, including binary variables and non-convex, nonlinear characteristics. To navigate these complexities, techniques such as constraint relaxation, linearization, sequen-tial optimization, and problem reformulation are employed. By leveraging these methods, complex power grid problems are solved while achieving high-quality solutions and meeting time constraints. The innovative solution approach showcases great robustness and consistently outperforms benchmark standards.

The idea of "net zero" buildings has received a lot of interest as a potential solution to reduce carbon emissions in the construction industry. However, real-world consequences frequently fall short of idealistic expectations. This research critically examines the current paradigm on net zero buildings, highlighting the hidden carbon emissions within these ostensibly sustainable constructions. It highlights gaps in present practices, discusses barriers to obtain net-zero status, and thoroughly studies the elements contributing to these buildings' carbon emissions. The study proposes a comprehensive strategy that includes both operational and embedded carbon emissions and methods for reducing emissions throughout the building's life cycle. Additionally, the study analyses the consequences and suggestions for legislators, developers, and industry stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of net zero building practices. The analysis considers that by following these principles and adopting a comprehensive approach, net zero buildings may realise their objective of lowering carbon emissions and supporting a profitable, low-carbon-built environment.
