bioinformatics and Data Science are routinely challenged to take out intelligible results from huge amounts of data. These results, in turn, are conveyed through plots and visualizations that should be easily reproducible for scientific soundness and ethical reasons. This process is of critical importance in Genomics, when dealing with large multi-omics datasets. One of the final steps of these analyses is Gene Set enrichment, where web tools represent a valuable resource but not a reliable surrogate for standardized, high-quality visualizations. Here we present Auto-GO, a software framework that proposes a standardization of the Gene Functional Enrichment process along with an R package able to produce high-quality visualization in an automated manner, improving the reproducibility of the whole analytical process. We present three use cases in Cancer Transcriptomics and Epigenomics datasets as a proof-of-concept to visualize Multiple Differential Expression and Single Sample Gene Set Enrichment Analysis. Finally, we show how it can be employed to shear light on publicly available datasets, even in small casuistry of Rare Cancers. © 2023 IEEE.

Objective: To evaluate the regression rate of endometrial polyps (EPs) in a cohort of asymmetric women after conservative follow-up. Materials and methods: In this retrospective cohort study, a total of 1006 women with asymptomatic EPs were treated with expectant management or hormonal drugs between June 1999 and May 2018. Four hundred forty-eight women (44.5%) were administered with hormonal medications and 558 women were managed expectantly (55.5%). Office hysteroscopy was performed to confirm the diagnosis and regression of EPs. Hormonal administration included oral contraceptives, progestin and cyclic estrogen/progestin regimen according to physicians' preferences. clinical characteristics, including the patient's age, body mass index, parity, and type of conservative management were collected. Results: The mean observation time was 14.1 ± 18.5 months (range, 1–162 months). The overall regression rate of EPs in this cohort was 33.5%, 24.6% occurred after medication and 8.9% after expectant management. Patient age (<50 years) (p < 0.001), follow-up period (p = 0.005) and hormonal drugs used (p < 0.001) were significantly associated with EP regression. Twenty-four (7.1%) of the 337 EP regression patients later developed recurrent disease. Follow-up period (p < 0.001) and hormonal drugs used (p = 0.032) were closely related to polyp recurrence after initial regression. Nevertheless, multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that hormonal drugs used was significantly associated with the regression (p < 0.001) and recurrence (p = 0.016) of EPs. Conclusion: Women aged 50 or less are more suitable for conservative treatment for EPs. Hormonal drugs used could increase the incidence of EP regression. © 2023

Purpose: The nurse's role in the operating room requires essential competencies throughout the care process, such as theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities assessed by the Revised Perceived Perioperative Competence Scale (PPCS-R). The study aims to translate, cross-culturally adapt, and validate the Italian version of the scale. Design: A cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Italian version of PPCS-R. Methods: The revised English version of the 40-item scale PPCS-R was translated into Italian according to Beaton's guidelines. The scale's internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's α coefficient, ensuring the instrument's reliability. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted, preceded by the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test and Bartlett's sphericity test. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 29.1 (IBM Corp.). Findings: The exploratory factor analysis of the Revised Perceived Perioperative Competence Scale—Italian Version (PPCS-R ITA) (N = 509) confirmed the 6 factors served in the original version. The final Italian version of PPCS-R comprises 40 items grouped into 6 latent factors. Each latent component showed a high consistency per Cronbach's α. The statistical analyses of the study confirm the reliability and good consistency of the tool. Conclusions: The statistical analyses of the study confirm the reliability and consistency of the tool (Revised Perceived Perioperative Competence Scale—Italian Version). By investigating the perception of Italian professionals working in the operating room through a translated and validated scale, specific training and professional development needs of a specific context can be better understood to identify appropriate learning and management strategies. © 2025 The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses

Background and Objective: Previous observational studies reported a complex relationship between snoring and coronary artery disease (CAD). We aimed to estimate the causal associations between snoring and CAD among East Asian people, and the effects independent of BMI. Methods: Based on 497,250 adults from China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB), we performed a conventional prospective analysis between snoring and CAD outcomes, using the multivariable Cox regression. We also leveraged genome-wide association (GWAS) summary statistics of snoring and BMI from CKB (n = 100,626, 47,208 snorers) and CAD outcomes from Biobank of Japan (BBJ, 5891–25,892 cases, 142,336–168,186 controls). Single-variable and multivariable two-sample bi-directional Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were performed. Results: During a median follow-up of 12.32 years, 48,997 participants developed CAD. Snoring and habitual snoring were associated with incident CAD and myocardial infarction (MI), habitual snoring was also associated with stable angina pectoris (SAP). The HRs (95% CIs) of habitual snoring were 1.06 (1.04, 1.08), 1.06 (1.04, 1.08) and 1.14 (1.03, 1.25). The associations remained among non-adiposity participants. Genetically predicted habitual snoring was associated with CAD and MI, the corresponding IVW-ORs (95% CIs) were 1.09 (1.005, 1.19) and 1.15 (1.05, 1.25). Further adjusted BMI, habitual snoring retained independent effects on MI and CAD, and showed impact on SAP (1.09 [1.01, 1.17]). No reverse associations were observed between CADs on snoring traits. Conclusion: Habitual snoring elevated the risks of total CAD, MI and SAP. The causal associations were independent of BMI. These findings indicated that snoring intervention might contribute to the decrease of CAD risk among Asians. (Figure presented.). © 2025 Asian Pacific Society of Respirology.

Objectives: To evaluate respiratory outcomes in preterm infants with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) following intravitreal bevacizumab injection (IVB). Methods: This single-centre study enroled preterm infants with a gestational age (GA) < 34 weeks or a birth weight (BW) < 1500 g with bilateral type 1 ROP who received a single IVB, and a treatment-free control group matched by GA, postmenstrual age, and respiratory status at the time of the IVB. The primary outcome was serial respiratory changes in mean airway pressure (MAP), fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO₂), and respiratory severity score (RSS, MAP x FiO₂) during the 28-day post-IVB/matching period and overall respiratory improvement at day 28 and at discharge. The duration of supplemental oxygen therapy following IVB/matching was documented. Results: A total of 5578 infants were included. Seventy-eight infants were enroled in the IVB group, and another 78 infants were matched as the control group. Both groups had downward trends in the MAP, FiO₂, and RSS over the study period (all P < 0.001), but there were no between-group differences in these measures. The percentage of overall respiratory improvement was similar between the IVB and control groups, so was the duration of invasive and in-hospital oxygen ventilation. A lower percentage of oxygen dependence at discharge in the IVB group (P = 0.03) remained significant after adjusting for GA and BW. Conclusions: This is a matched case study to evaluate respiratory outcomes in preterm infants following IVB for ROP. We found that the IVBs did not compromise respiratory outcomes in preterm infants during the 28-day post-IVB period and at discharge. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Background: Adrenal venous sampling (AVS) for subtyping of primary aldosteronism (PA) is a challenging procedure with an unsatisfying bilateral success rate, which leads to a nondiagnostic result. On any side where AVS is successful, the relative aldosterone secretion index (RASI) can imply the status of aldosterone production, and the postsaline infusion test (SIT) aldosterone level may further provide information in differentiating unilateral diseases from bilateral ones. Objectives: We have illustrated a validated diagnostic method that combines the interpretation of RASI with the post-SIT aldosterone level (RASI + SIT), which may help predict the subtype of PA. Materials and Methods: Data from 33 patients with suspicious PA who underwent SIT and AVS were retrospectively reviewed. AVS data were viewed as both right and left sides as each side had their own RASI independently. Diagnostic agreement between lateralization index (LI) and RASI combining SIT was examined by kappa analysis. Diagnostic performance was further validated in patients who underwent surgery by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC). Results: RASI and LI have a great diagnostic agreement (k = 0.73), and a higher diagnostic agreement (k = 0.79) was reached after the post-SIT aldosterone level was added for further differentiation. ROC curve constructed using RASI and post-SIT aldosterone level as predictors for postadrenalectomy outcome revealed an AUC = 0.99, suggesting excellent diagnostic performance. Conclusions: With proper cutoff value and assistance of post-SIT aldosterone level, RASI is a helpful diagnostic index in AVS data interpretation, even in unilaterally successful AVS, as an alternative to LI. © 2024 Journal of Radiological Science.
