Collaborative manufacturing is central to agile, intelligent, and cloud-based manufacturing paradigms. This paper presents the design and implementation of a web-based collaborative manufacturing system based on a knowledge graph (KG). The system achieves the full spectrum of knowledge extraction, fusion, and reasoning across the industrial chain, thereby enhancing efficiency and reducing operational costs. The proposed system constructs an industrial chain KG and multi-agent systems, offering comprehensive digital services across the manufacturing value chain. It supports the integration of business processes, data, and standard information for enterprise groups, presenting collaborative manufacturing data of the industrial chain in real-time visualization. The paper further discusses a method for real-time perception of anomalies in the collaborative manufacturing process, utilizing expert knowledge and data-driven insights to construct an operational risk KG. The system's architecture, workflow, and functional design are detailed, along with application cases in visual dynamic management. The conclusion underscores the system's potential to improve supply-demand chain management and operational efficiency in collaborative manufacturing. © 2024 IEEE.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Wearable Internet of Things (WIoT) for mental health detection is a promising area of research with the potential to revolutionize mental health monitoring and diagnosis. Since early detection of mental diseases, i.e., depression, is of great importance for diagnosis and treatment, a fast and convenient way is urgently needed. Traditional diagnostic methods are time-consuming, laborious, over-subjective, and easily lead to misdiagnosis. The advance in information techniques and wearable devices brings innovation to mental disease detection. Therefore, this article first compares intelligent depression detection methods and traditional methods to illustrate the significance and then analyzes the opportunities of the wearable device. Then we provide specific psychophysiological data measured by wearable devices and introduce relevant datasets for depression detection. An illustrative example of depression detection with sleep data is presented and discussed and our proposed ensemble method has improved nearly 10% to baselines. Analytical results demonstrate the great potential of using wearable device-measured psychophysiological data to detect depression intelligently. © 2024 The Authors

Unknown-Aware Bilateral Dependency Optimization for Defending Against Model Inversion Attacks

By abusing access to a well-trained classifier, model inversion (MI) attacks pose a significant threat as they can recover the original training data, leading to privacy leakage. Previous studies mitigated MI attacks by imposing regularization to reduce the dependency between input features and outputs during classifier training, a strategy known as unilateral dependency optimization. However, this strategy contradicts the objective of minimizing the supervised classification loss, which inherently seeks to maximize the dependency between input features and outputs. Consequently, there is a trade-off between improving the model's robustness against MI attacks and maintaining its classification performance. To address this issue, we propose the bilateral dependency optimization strategy (BiDO), a dual-objective approach that minimizes the dependency between input features and latent representations, while simultaneously maximizing the dependency between latent representations and labels. BiDO is remarkable for its privacy-preserving capabilities. However, models trained with BiDO exhibit diminished capabilities in out-of-distribution (OOD) detection compared to models trained with standard classification supervision. Given the open-world nature of deep learning systems, this limitation could lead to significant security risks, as encountering OOD inputs—whose label spaces do not overlap with the in-distribution (ID) data used during training-is inevitable. To address this, we leverage readily available auxiliary OOD data to enhance the OOD detection performance of models trained with BiDO. This leads to the introduction of an upgraded framework, unknown-aware BiDO (BiDO+), which mitigates both privacy and security concerns. As a highlight, with comparable model utility, BiDO-HSIC+ reduces the FPR95 by 55.02% and enhances the AUCROC by 9.52% compared to BiDO-HSIC, while also providing superior MI robustness. © 1979-2012 IEEE.

Since the secrecy rate (SR) performance improvement obtained by secure directional modulation (DM) network is limited, an active intelligent reflective surface (IRS)-assisted DM network is considered to attain a high SR. To address the SR maximization problem, a novel method based on Lagrangian dual transform and closed-form fractional programming algorithm (LDT-CFFP) is proposed, where the solutions to base station (BS) beamforming vectors and IRS reflection coefficient matrix are achieved. However, the computational complexity of LDT-CFFP method is high . To reduce its complexity, a blocked IRS-assisted DM network is designed. To meet the requirements of the network performance, a power allocation (PA) strategy is proposed and adopted in the system. Specifically, the system power between BS and IRS, as well as the transmission power for confidential messages (CM) and artificial noise (AN) from the BS, are allocated separately. Then we put forward null-space projection (NSP) method, maximum-ratio-reflecting (MRR) algorithm and PA strategy (NSP-MRR-PA) to solve the SR maximization problem. The CF solutions to BS beamforming vectors and IRS reflection coefficient matrix are respectively attained via NSP and MRR algorithms. For the PA factors, we take advantage of exhaustive search (ES) algorithm, particle swarm optimization (PSO) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm to search for the solutions. From simulation results, it is verified that the LDT-CFFP method derives a higher SR gain over NSP-MRR-PA method. For NSP-MRR-PA method, the number of IRS units in each block possesses a significant SR performance. In addition, the application PA strategies, namely ES, PSO, SA methods outperforms the other PA strategies with fixed PA factors. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In terms of the generative process, the Gamma-Gamma-Poisson Process (G2PP) is equivalent to the nonparametric topic model of Hierarchical Dirichlet Process (HDP). Considering the high computational cost of estimating parameters in HDP, a parallel G2PP was developed to generate topics efficiently via multi-threading. Unfortunately, the above model needs to predefine the number of topics. To address this issue, we first propose a Topic Self-Adaptive Model (TSAM) for nonparametric and parallel topic discovery. In TSAM, a monitor-executor mechanism is developed to manage the global topic information using a hierarchical structure of threads. Based on the apparatus of copulas, we further extend our TSAM to TSAMcop for coherent topic modeling by exploiting a copula guided parallel Gibbs sampling algorithm. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of both TSAM and TSAMcop. © 2023 IEEE.

Modern computing paradigms, such as cloud computing, are increasingly adopting GPUs to boost their computing capabilities primarily due to the heterogeneous nature of AI/ML/deep learning workloads. However, the energy consumption of GPUs is a critical problem. Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) is a widely used technique to reduce the dynamic power of GPUs. Yet, configuring the optimal clock frequency for essential performance requirements is a non-trivial task due to the complex nonlinear relationship between the application's runtime performance characteristics, energy, and execution time. It becomes more challenging when different applications behave distinctively with similar clock settings. Simple analytical solutions and standard GPU frequency scaling heuristics fail to capture these intricacies and scale the frequencies appropriately. In this regard, we propose a data-driven frequency scaling technique by predicting the power and execution time of a given application over different clock settings. We collect the data from application profiling and train the models to predict the outcome accurately. The proposed solution is generic and can be easily extended to different kinds of workloads and GPU architectures. Furthermore, using this frequency scaling by prediction models, we present a deadline-aware application scheduling algorithm to reduce energy consumption while simultaneously meeting their deadlines. We conduct real extensive experiments on NVIDIA GPUs using several benchmark applications. The experiment results have shown that our prediction models have high accuracy with the average RMSE values of 0.38 and 0.05 for energy and time prediction, respectively. Also, the scheduling algorithm consumes 15.07% less energy as compared to the baseline policies.

Although cloud computing became a mainstream industrial computing paradigm, low resource utilization remains a common problem that most warehouse-scale datacenters suffer from. This leads to a significant waste of hardware resources, infrastructure investment, and energy consumption. As the diversity in application workloads grows into an essential characteristic in modern datacenters, task co-location of different workloads to the same compute cluster has gained immense popularity as a heuristic solution for resource utilization optimization. Although the existing co-location methodologies manage to improve resource efficiency to a certain degree, application QoS is usually sacrificed as a trade-off when dealing with resource interference between different applications. This paper proposes a containerized task co-location (CTCL) scheduler to improve resource utilization and minimize task eviction rate. Our CTCL scheduler (1) applies an elastic task co-location strategy to improve resource utilization; and (2) supports a dynamic task rescheduling mechanism to prevent severe QoS degradation from frequent task evictions. We evaluate our approach in terms of resource efficiency and rescheduling cost through the ContainercloudSim simulator. Our experiments with the Alibaba 2018 workload traces demonstrate that CTCL could improve overall resource efficiency and reduce rescheduling rate by 38% and 99% respectively.

Approximate computing has become an emerging technique to reduce power consumption. In numerous applications, multiplication is a crucial operation, designing it for approximation is effective in optimizing system performance. In this paper, we propose low-power FPGA-based multipliers by employing the novel compressor designs. Given that the compressor is the primary unit in the multiplier, we introduce novel exact and approximate compressors with low-complexity circuits to parallelly accumulate the elements. To flexibly configure the proposed compressors, a compressor-based once-through structure is proposed to 8×8 multipliers. Two variants of the approximate multipliers are provided with different accuracy-hardware trade-offs. Compared with the exact multiplier, the proposed approximate multiplier reduces power by 57.90%, area by 33.80%, and delay by 24.78%. With a similar accuracy loss, the proposed designs save more hardware resources than others. In addition, the effectiveness of approximate multipliers is assessed in image sharpening.

Approximate multiplier saves energy and improves hardware performance for error-tolerant computation-intensive applications. This work proposes hardware-efficient FPGA-based approximate multipliers with look-up table (LUT) sharing and carry switching. Sharing two LUTs with the same inputs enables to fully utilize the available LUT resources. To mitigate the accuracy loss incurred from this approach, the truncated carry is partially reserved by switching it to the adjacent calculation. In addition, we create a library of 8×8 approximate multipliers to provide various multiplication choices. The proposed design can provide enhancements of up to 38.75% in power, 17.29% in latency, and 28.17% in area compared to the Xilinx exact multiplier. Our proposed designs are open-source at https://***/YnuGuoLab/DATE_FPGA_Approx_Mul and assist in further reproducing and development.
