Point clouds have increasingly become the preferred representation for various visual and graphical applications. Denoising diffusion probability models (DDPMs) have demonstrated remarkable applications in areas such as 3D point cloud generation. Furthermore, the ability to generate or reconstruct high-resolution, high-fidelity point clouds stands as a pivotal requirement within this domain. To this end, we propose a geometry aware diffusion model for 3D shape generation. Considering that the global latent shape space overlooks the inherent topology and fine-grained information within the 3D shape itself, we introduce a geometry latent space that operates in a cascaded relationship with the global shape latent space. This latent space combines the global shape latent with the geometry latent space. To generate high-quality point clouds, we conduct training on the geometry latent space, which yields superior results compared to training solely on the global shape latent space. Specifically, we represent the point cloud as a set of unordered point representations with positional embedding. We further employ a geometry aware attention block to model global geometric relationships and retaining local detail features, capturing the inductive bias of the 3D geometric structure of the point cloud. We conduct experiments across various ShapeNet benchmarks, and our approach has demonstrated substantial advancements in the generation of point clouds when compared to the baseline.

In multi-site brain disease diagnosis studies, traditional centralized training methods necessitate sharing medical data, posing significant privacy risks. Federated learning (FL) offers a privacy-preserving solution by enabling global model training through aggregating locally trained models from multiple data centers without sharing raw data. However, current FL approaches rely on a server-based network topology, where central server failure disrupts training. Additionally, data heterogeneity across sites often slows convergence and reduces accuracy. To overcome these issues, we introduce a decentralized personalized federated learning collaborative aggregation network (pFedCAN). This framework has two core components: (1) separating local models into shared and personalized layers, and (2) forming a collaborative aggregation network via similarity detection in the shared layers. Specifically, each center trains its local model, then separates it into shared and personalized layers. The shared layer is exchanged with other centers, while the personalized layer remains local. Data centers analyze similarities in received shared layers to build a collaborative network, where shared layers from similar centers are aggregated to refine the model. This approach flexibly adapts to varying levels of data heterogeneity, enhancing model training efficiency. Validation on public datasets, ABIDE I and ADHD, shows that the proposed method outperforms current leading techniques.

In various domains such as surveillance and smart retail, pedestrian retrieval, centering on person re-identification (Re-ID), plays a pivotal role. Existing Re-ID methodologies often overlook subtle internal attribute variations, which are crucial for accurately identifying individuals with changing appearances. In response, our paper introduces the Attribute-Guided Pedestrian Retrieval (AGPR) task, focusing on integrating specified attributes with query images to refine retrieval results. Although there has been progress in attribute-driven image retrieval, there remains a notable gap in effectively blending robust Re-ID models with intra-class attribute variations. To bridge this gap, we present the Attribute-Guided Transformer-based Pedestrian Retrieval (ATPR) framework. ATPR adeptly merges global ID recognition with local attribute learning, ensuring a co-hesive linkage between the two. Furthermore, to effectively handle the complexity of attribute interconnectivity, ATPR organizes attributes into distinct groups and applies both inter-group correlation and intra-group decorrelation regularizations. Our extensive experiments on a newly estab-lished benchmark using the RAP dataset [32] demonstrate the effectiveness of ATPR within the AGPR paradigm.

The processor's Performance Monitor Unit (PMU) allows the recording of architectural and microarchitectural events for profiling purposes. In this study, we reveal a security issue caused by the fact that current PMU implementations are capable of recording some events that happened during transient executions. We propose the PMU -Spill attack, a new kind of attack that enables attackers to maliciously leak the secret data in transient executions. We demonstrate on real hardware that PMU -Spill attack can leak the secret data stored in Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX). In addition, we perform a thorough study to reveal all the vulnerable PMU counters and find that 20 of them can be used to achieve PMU -Spill attack. Our experiments suggest that the throughput of PMU -Spill attack is up to 575.3 bytes per second (Bps) with an average error rate of 1.89% when leaking the SGX-protected secret data.

Federated learning with fair averaging

Fairness has emerged as a critical problem in federated learning (FL). In this work, we identify a cause of unfairness in FL - conflicting gradients with large differences in the magnitudes. To address this issue, we propose the federated fair averaging (FedFV) algorithm to mitigate potential conflicts among clients before averaging their gradients. We first use the cosine similarity to detect gradient conflicts, and then iteratively eliminate such conflicts by modifying both the direction and the magnitude of the gradients. We further show the theoretical foundation of FedFV to mitigate the issue conflicting gradients and converge to Pareto stationary solutions. Extensive experiments on a suite of federated datasets confirm that FedFV compares favorably against state-of-the-art methods in terms of fairness, accuracy and efficiency. Extracting surfaces from 3D point clouds is significant in reconstructing and transforming these discrete points into their corresponding models. Scannedpoint clouds are often accompanied by noise, and the existing methods mainly rely on local feature similarities for surface extractions. Errors in estimatingthe feature information may lead to incorrect surface detection. In this paper we propose a surface extraction and boundary detection method based onclustering technique. The method can be described in three steps: In the first step, a normal correction is carried out using the information from theneighbourhood of points with sharp features. The second step is to cluster the points that meet the coplanar condition of the local quadric surface (LQS).In the third step, surface merger is performed by merging the local surfaces satisfying the merging conditions. Experimental validation is carried outto determine the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results show improved surface extraction accuracy of the proposed methodin comparison to RANSAC, RG, LCCP, C2NO and HT methods. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Dual-Scale Enhanced and Cross-Generative Consistency Learning for Semi-Supervised Medical Image Segmentation

Medical image segmentation plays a crucial role in computer-aided diagnosis. However, existing methods heavily rely on fully supervised training, which requires a large amount of labeled data with time-consuming pixel-wise annotations. Moreover, accurately segmenting lesions poses challenges due to variations in shape, size, and location. To address these issues, we propose a novel Dual-scale Enhanced and Cross-generative consistency learning framework for semi-supervised medical image Segmentation (DEC-Seg). First, we propose a Cross-level Feature Aggregation (CFA) module that integrates cross-level adjacent layers to enhance the feature representation ability across different resolutions. To address scale variation, we present a scale-enhanced consistency constraint, which ensures consistency in the segmentation maps generated from the same input image at different scales. This constraint helps handle variations in lesion sizes and improves the robustness of the model. Furthermore, we propose a cross-generative consistency scheme, in which the original and perturbed images can be reconstructed using cross-segmentation maps. This consistency constraint allows us to mine effective feature representations and boost the segmentation performance. To produce more accurate segmentation maps, we propose a Dual-scale Complementary Fusion (DCF) module that integrates features from two scale-specific decoders operating at different scales. Extensive experimental results on polyp segmentation from colonoscopy images, skin lesion segmentation from dermoscopic images, and Brain glioma segmentation from MRI images demonstrate the effectiveness of our DEC-Seg against other state-of-the-art semi-supervised segmentation approaches. © 2024, The Authors. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature.
