In the face of the rapid development of the IoT, the traditional cloud computing, while providing services for mobile intelligent devices, also brings problems such as network bandwidth occupation and communication delay. Edge computing can solve these problems to some extent. But too many offloaded tasks may result in an edge server becoming overloaded and execution delay of tasks increasing, the computing resources of idle edge devices are also not fully utilized. In order to make full use of the computing resources of idle edge devices in the local network and reduce the execution delay for computing tasks, this paper takes the average delay time for all end devices as the optimization objective and proposes an end-edge cooperative scheduling (EECS) model to schedule tasks for edge computing. The scheduling algorithm used in EECS model is improved based on MCT algorithm. We use the EdgecloudSim to verily the EECS model and scheduling algorithm. The simulation results show that the average completion time of computing tasks in EECS model, compared with only single edge server (SEE) task computing model, can be reduced by up to three times. In addition, the system load can be balanced to a certain extent in local network.

The key challenge of image manipulation detection is how to learn generalizable features that are sensitive to manipulations in novel data, whilst specific to prevent false alarms on authentic images. Current research emphasizes the sensitivity, with the specificity overlooked. In this paper we address both aspects by multi-view feature learning and multi-scale supervision. By exploiting noise distribution and boundary artifact surrounding tampered regions, the former aims to learn semantic-agnostic and thus more generalizable features. The latter allows us to learn from authentic images which are nontrivial to be taken into account by current semantic segmentation network based methods. Our thoughts are realized by a new network which we term MVSS-Net. Extensive experiments on five benchmark sets justify the viability of MVSS-Net for both pixel-level and image-level manipulation detection. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The circulation of knowledge is an important function for enriching our social life. Knowledge circulation, which has traditionally been conducted manually, is undergoing a transformation in the age of artificial intelligence. In this paper, we describe our project called “Learning Cyclotron (LeCycl),” which was initiated to accelerate the circulation of knowledge for building a knowledge ecosystem based on artificial intelligence technology. The three functions of sensing, mastering, and transferring knowledge are effectively operated through the power of AI-empowered digital nudging strategies. We outline what has been accomplished to date and summarize future directions for the ultimate goal of LeCycl.

In aeronautic, redundancy of data is strongly desired to make optimal decisions. A large data source is available with the development of the technology used in remote sensing images. Remote Sensing Image Classification (RSIC) is widely exploited in military and civil fields. To improve the performance of multi-label classification, we addressed the problem of RSIC based on the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for remote sensing images of aircraft types. Previous studies have used intensive preprocessing which limits the rate of classification. We improved the network structure to make it more accurate and to limit underfitting or overfitting problems. A recent public dataset called Multi-Type Aircraft Remote Sensing Images (MTARSI) is used in this work to validate our method. Extensive experiments prove the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of accuracy. © 2020 IEEE.

Data-intensive applications are growing at an increasing rate and there is a growing need to solve scalability and high-performance issues in them. By the advent of cloud computing paradigm, it became possible to harness remote resources to build and deploy these applications. In recent years, new set of applications and services based on Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, require to process large amount of data in very less time. Among them surveillance and object detection have gained prime importance, but cloud is unable to bring down the network latencies to meet the response time requirements. This problem is solved by Fog computing which harnesses resources in the edge of the network along with remote cloud resources as required. However, there is still a lack of frameworks that are successfully able to integrate sophisticated software and applications, especially deep learning, with fog and cloud computing environments. In this work, we propose a framework to deploy deep learning-based applications in fog-cloud environments to harness edge and cloud resources to provide better service quality for such applications. Our proposed framework, called EdgeLens, adapts to the application or user requirements to provide high accuracy or low latency modes of services. We also tested the performance of the software in terms of accuracy, response time, jitter, network bandwidth and power consumption and show how EdgeLens adapts to different service requirements. © 2019 IEEE.

Dynamic scheduling for stochastic edge-cloud computing environments using A3C learning and residual recurrent neural networks

The ubiquitous adoption of Internet-of-Things (IoT) based applications has resulted in the emergence of the Fog computing paradigm, which allows seamlessly harnessing both mobile-edge and cloud resources. Efficient scheduling of application tasks in such environments is challenging due to constrained resource capabilities, mobility factors in IoT, resource heterogeneity, network hierarchy, and stochastic behaviors. Existing heuristics and Reinforcement Learning based approaches lack generalizability and quick adaptability, thus failing to tackle this problem optimally. They are also unable to utilize the temporal workload patterns and are suitable only for centralized setups. However, Asynchronous-Advantage-Actor-Critic (A3C) learning is known to quickly adapt to dynamic scenarios with less data and Residual Recurrent Neural Network (R2N2) to quickly update model parameters. Thus, we propose an A3C based real-time scheduler for stochastic Edge-cloud environments allowing decentralized learning, concurrently across multiple agents. We use the R2N2 architecture to capture a large number of host and task parameters together with temporal patterns to provide efficient scheduling decisions. The proposed model is adaptive and able to tune different hyper-parameters based on the application requirements. We explicate our choice of hyper-parameters through sensitivity analysis. The experiments conducted on real-world data set show a significant improvement in terms of energy consumption, response time, Service-Level-Agreement and running cost by 14.4%, 7.74%, 31.9%, and 4.64%, respectively when compared to the state-of-the-art algorithms. In community-based software development, developers frequently rely on live-chatting to discuss emergent bugs/errors they encounter in daily development tasks. However, it remains a challenging task to accurately record such knowledge due to the noisy nature of interleaved dialogs in live chat data. In this paper, we first formulate the task of identifying and synthesizing bug reports from commu-nity live chats, and propose a novel approach, named BugListener, to address the challenges. Specifically, BugListener automates three sub-tasks: 1) Disentangle the dialogs from massive chat logs by using a Feed-Forward neural network; 2) Identify the bug-report dialogs from separated dialogs by leveraging the Graph neural net-work to learn the contextual information; 3) Synthesize the bug reports by utilizing Transfer Learning techniques to classify the sentences into: observed behaviors (OB), expected behaviors (EB), and steps to reproduce the bug (SR). BugListener is evaluated on six open source projects. The results show that: for bug report identification, BugListener achieves the average Fl of 77.74%, im-proving the best baseline by 12.96%; and for bug report synthesis task, BugListener could classify the OB, EB, and SR sentences with the F1 of 84.62%, 71.46%, and 73.13%, improving the best baselines by 9.32%,12.21%,10.91%, respectively. A human evaluation study also confirms the effectiveness of Bug Listener in generating relevant and accurate bug reports. These demonstrate the significant potential of applying BugListener in community-based software development, for promoting bug discovery and quality improvement.

Subspace clustering is a classical technique that has been widely used for human motion segmentation and other related tasks. However, existing segmentation methods often cluster data without guidance from prior knowledge, resulting in unsatisfactory segmentation results. To this end, we propose a novel Consistency and Diversity induced human Motion Segmentation (CDMS) algorithm. Specifically, our model factorizes the source and target data into distinct multi-layer feature spaces, in which transfer subspace learning is conducted on different layers to capture multi-level information. A multi-mutual consistency learning strategy is carried out to reduce the domain gap between the source and target data. In this way, the domain-specific knowledge and domain-invariant properties can be explored simultaneously. Besides, a novel constraint based on the Hilbert Schmidt Independence Criterion (HSIC) is introduced to ensure the diversity of multi-level subspace representations, which enables the complementarity of multi-level representations to be explored to boost the transfer learning performance. Moreover, to preserve the temporal correlations, an enhanced graph regularizer is imposed on the learned representation coefficients and the multi-level representations of the source data. The proposed model can be efficiently solved using the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) algorithm. Extensive experimental results on public human motion datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method against several state-of-the-art approaches. Copyright © 2022, The Authors.
