This paper demonstrates a framework for offline handwriting recognition using character spotting and autonomous tagging which works for any alphabetic script. Character spotting builds on the idea of object detection to find character elements in unsegmented word images. An autonomous tagging approach is introduced which automates the production of a character image training set by estimating character locations in a word based on typical character size. Although scripts can vary vividly from each other, our proposed approach provides a simple and powerful workflow for unconstrained offline recognition that should work for any alphabetic script with few adjustments. Here we demonstrate this approach with handwritten Bangla, obtaining a character recognition accuracy (CRA) of 94.8% and 91.12% with precision and autonomous tagging, respectively. Furthermore, we explained how character spotting and autonomous tagging can be implemented for other alphabetic scripts. We demonstrated that with handwritten Hangul/Korean obtaining a Jamo recognition accuracy (JRA) of 93.16% using a tiny fraction of the PE92 training set. The combination of character spotting and autonomous tagging takes away one of the biggest frustrations—data annotation by hand, and thus, we believe this has the potential to revolutionize the growth of offline recognition development. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

We present a data structure to randomly sample rows from the Khatri-Rao product of several matrices according to the exact distribution of its leverage scores. Our proposed sampler draws each row in time logarithmic in the height of the Khatri-Rao product and quadratic in its column count, with persistent space overhead at most the size of the input matrices. As a result, it tractably draws samples even when the matrices forming the Khatri-Rao product have tens of millions of rows each. When used to sketch the linear least squares problems arising in CANDECOMP / PARAFAC tensor decomposition, our method achieves lower asymptotic complexity per solve than recent state-of-the-art methods. Experiments on billion-scale sparse tensors validate our claims, with our algorithm achieving higher accuracy than competing methods as the decomposition rank grows.

Social navigation in robotics primarily involves guiding mobile robots through human-populated areas, with pedestrian comfort balanced with efficient path-finding. Although progress has been seen in this field, a solution for the seamless integration of robots into pedestrian settings remains elusive. In this paper, a social force model for legged robots is developed, utilizing visual perception for human localization. In particular, an augmented social force model is introduced, incorporating refined interpretations of repulsive forces and avoidance behaviors based on pedestrian actions, alongside a target following mechanism. Experimental evaluation on a quadruped robot, through various scenarios, including interactions with oncoming pedestrians, crowds, and obstructed paths, demonstrates that the proposed augmented model significantly improves upon previous baseline methods in terms of chosen path length, average velocity, and time-to-goal for effective and efficient social navigation. The exponential growth of astronomical datasets provides an unprecedented opportunity for humans to gain insight into the ***,effectively analyzing this vast amount of data poses a significant *** response,astronomers are turning to deep learning techniques,but these methods are limited by their specific training sets,leading to considerable duplicate *** overcome this issue,we built a framework for the general analysis of galaxy images based on a large vision model(LVM)plus downstream tasks(DST),including galaxy morphological classification,image restoration object detection,parameter extraction,and *** the low signal-to-noise ratios of galaxy images and the imbalanced distribution of galaxy categories,we designed our LVM to incorporate a Human-in-the-loop(HITL)module,which leverages human knowledge to enhance the reliability and interpretability of processing galaxy images *** proposed framework exhibits notable fewshot learning capabilities and versatile adaptability for all the abovementioned tasks on galaxy images in the DESI Legacy Imaging *** particular,for the object detection task,which was trained using 1000 data points,our DST in the LVM achieved an accuracy of 96.7%,while ResNet50 plus Mask R-CNN reached an accuracy of 93.1%.For morphological classification,to obtain an area under the curve(AUC)of~0.9,LVM plus DST and HITL only requested 1/50 of the training sets that ResNet18 *** addition,multimodal data can be integrated,which creates possibilities for conducting joint analyses with datasets spanning diverse domains in the era of multi-messenger astronomy.

With the emergence of new generation of digital technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, big data, edge computing, 5G/6G, VR/AR/MR, and the Internet of Things, an exciting era of metaverse is coming. Interacted and linked with the physical world, metaverse offers a platform of a new social ecosystem, dealing with digital twins and empowering virtual-reality symbiosis. In metaverse, social activities and business processes are performed based on the sequences of workflow or service processes. Bridging both the virtual space and the real world, such metaverse services are more complicated and present many new challenges and research topics. In this paper, the concept and characteristics of metaverse services are presented, the key technologies and typical use cases are reviewed, and the future challenges and opportunities of metaverse services are also discussed. © 2023 IEEE.

Modern semiconductor manufacturing production lines include several technological processes such as diffusion, wafer cleaning and epitaxy and therefore they are subject to degradation phenomena that must be carefully monitored. The processed semiconductor wafer consequently requires a very accurate testing phase which allows to detect the presence of defects to be traced back to the production line and which can have an impact on the downstream yield. The electric wafer testing phase (EWS i.e. electrical Wafer Sorting) is certainly one of the key stages in semiconductor wafer monitoring in both classical silicon-based technology and modern silicon carbide production lines. The EWS validation phase includes the execution of several electrical tests directly on the integrated circuits (dies) over the wafer. The EWS electrical assessment outcome can be reported in a 2D binary image-map enabling the formation of specific visual patterns in accordance with the defect statistics found in the testing phase. Specifically, from this intelligent EWS analysis it is possible to early-assess defects in the production lines, electrical defects in the devices and finally a proper wafer-yield forecasting estimation. The classification of the EWS image-map visual patterns is a very challenging and time-consuming task. In that context, ad-hoc deep learning solution has been developed in order to perform supervised/unsupervised EWS image-maps patterns recognition and tracking. The related pipeline is composed by ad-hoc convolutional deep architecture with an innovative augmentation system based on spatiotemporal preprocessing of input EWS image-maps. The implemented architecture is able to classify the input EWS binary maps into a well-known pattern-classes whose features at the production line level and the impact on yield are known. This paper presents the new design for a rectangular loop antenna (RLA) with enhanced impedance bandwidth and realized gain. The newly proposed RLA includes a truncated rectangular loop and two parasitic elements positioned on either side of the loop, strategically employed to enhance bandwidth. Additionally, to concentrate radiated power, a metallic sheet is positioned beneath the antenna at a distance of 3.35 mm. Through simulations, the study illustrates that the suggested design achieves a notable 60% improvement in bandwidth and a gain enhancement of approximately 6.6 dBi. The antenna operates within the frequency range of 10.2 GHz to 11.7 GHz, achieving a maximum gain of 11 dBi at a resonance frequency of 11 GHz. Given its performance in the X-band frequency range, the proposed RLA emerges as a promising candidate for applications such as synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging.

cloud computing proved itself a powerful and popular platform for providing computing services. It offers on-demand services to users with highly efficient resources over the internet. With the exponential increase in the number of internet users and due to the high acceptance rate to use the cloud services in everything, the demand for cloud platforms has also increased significantly. This leads to heavy workloads on the servers, which is a difficult task to manage due to the heterogeneity and uncertainty of the resources. However, several traditional, heuristic, and evolutionary-based approaches have been proposed to solve the problem of scheduling. Existing state-of-art techniques and frameworks have solved the problem up to a limited level. Still, these solutions have not given any effective and concrete solution for the overall resource scheduling problem. Therefore, this paper tries to overcome the bottleneck of existing solutions by presenting a new framework named Genetic Algorithm Water Pressure Change (GAWPC) to solve task scheduling problems efficiently. The GAWPC framework exploited the feature of the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Water Pressure Change optimization (WPCO) techniques to form a new hybrid mechanism. In the proposed framework, GA has been deployed to find the optimal solution for a particular population. WPCO has been used to optimize fitness function for a fast convergence rate. The computer-based simulation has demonstrated promising benefits like improved computation cost, make-span time, and load balancing when compared with the most recent existing baseline techniques using cloudSim. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Traditional games like "Tag" rely on shared control via inter-body interactions (IBIs) – touching, pushing, and pulling – that foster emotional and social connection. Digital games largely limit IBIs, with players using their bodies as input to control virtual avatars instead. Our "Shared Bodily Fusion" approach addresses this by fusing players’ bodies through a mediating computer, creating a shared input and output system. We demonstrate this approach with "Hidden Touch", a game where a novel social electrical muscle stimulation system transforms touch (input) into muscle actuations (output), facilitating IBIs. Through a study (n=27), we identifed three player experience themes. Informed by these fndings and our design process, we mapped their trajectories across our three experiential spaces – threshold, tolerance, and precision – which collectively form our design framework. This framework facilitates the creation of future digital games where IBIs are intrinsic, ultimately promoting the many benefts of social play. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Recently image steganography methods based on invertible neural networks (INNs) demonstrated the capability to automatically embed and extract secret messages while maintaining high visual quality in stego images. However, there remain concerns about security and invertibility of such methods. In this paper, for the first time, we introduce adversarial hiding into INN-based image steganography method to simultaneously perform steganographic embedding and adversarial perturbation generation, resulting in improved security. Our method enhances the invertibility of the INN structure: It utilizes the lost information of the INN to generate perturbations, which are then combined with the gradient of the cover image to produce an adversarial stego image. Also, a learnable noise layer is proposed to mitigate information loss caused by rounding and truncation during image storage. Therefore, the proposed method significantly improves security while enhancing extraction performance of INN-based steganography approach, as supported by our experimental results. For example, the steganalysis detection accuracy of SRNet decreases from 96.86% to 51.77% at a payload of 0.2 bits per pixel (bpp).
