A coupled system of volume integral and two-fluid hydrodynamic equations is solved to analyze electromagnetic field interactions with non-local dispersion effects on semiconductor nanostructures. This coupled system, where the hydrodynamic currents and the electric flux are the unknowns, is discretized using Schaubert-Wilton-Glisson basis functions. Numerical results obtained using this solver show the presence of so-called acoustic modes at the frequencies lower than the resonance frequency of localized surface plasmon (LSP) mode. These modes cannot be identified if a Drude-like model or the single-fluid hydrodynamic equation is used to represent the electrical properties of the semiconductors. © 2022 IEEE.

Swarm of UAVs (S-UAVs) is the term used to describe an unplanned gathering of un-manned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that collaborate to complete predefined missions. Any UAV has a risk of being damaged in crisis situations like fire. Clustering is one of the most often used routing algorithms in S-UAVs. The clustering scheme divides the UAVs into clusters, with a cluster head (CH) and cluster members (CM) in each cluster. The CH plays a critical role within inter-cluster communication, and because of this, its selection is an ongoing area of study. A clustered weighted scheme with redundancy and dynamic weight adjustment is proposed in this paper. The selection of the principal CH, redundant CHs, and CMs is based on a weighted formula composed of distance, speed, and rewarding index. Whenever the primary CH is damaged, the redundant CH takes its place immediately. After the first clustering process, the proposed scheme dynamically and autonomously adjusts the weights to optimize the UAV role selection. According to the outcomes of the carried-out simulation, this is a promising scheme that reduces data loss in a crisis-case scenario and optimizes the time delay through the dynamic adjustments of the weights.

This Birds of a Feather (BoF) session brings together computing educators, administrators, and graduate students to explore innovative approaches for creating supportive learning environments in computer science education. Building on the success of the Cultural Competence in Computing (3C) Fellows program, which has cultivated a community of over 250 computing professionals, this session provides a structured framework for addressing current challenges in computing education and developing effective teaching strategies. The quotient of two multivariate Gaussian densities can be written as an unnormalized Gaussian density, which has been applied in some recently developed multiple-model fixed-interval smoothing algorithms. However, this expression is invalid if instead of being positive definite, the covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density is indefinite (i.e., it has both positive and negative eigenvalues) or undefined (i.e., computing it requires inverting a singular matrix). This paper considers approximating the quotient of two Gaussian densities in this case using two different approaches to mitigate the caused numerical problems. The first approach directly replaces the indefinite covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density with a positive definite matrix nearest to it. The second approach computes the approximation through solving, using the natural gradient, an optimization problem with a Kullback-Leibler divergence-based cost function. This paper illustrates the application of the theoretical results by incorporating them into an existing smoothing method for jump Markov systems and utilizing the obtained smoothers to track a maneuvering target. © 2023 International Society of Information Fusion.

Blockchain Security Risk Assessment in Quantum Era, Migration Strategies and Proactive Defense

The advent of Quantum Computing (QC) poses significant threats to the cryptographic foundations of Blockchain (BC) systems, as quantum algorithms like Shor’s and Grover’s undermine the security of public-key cryptography and hash functions. This research conducts a comprehensive risk assessment of quantum vulnerabilities across critical BC components, including consensus mechanisms, smart contracts, and digital wallets. Leveraging the STRIDE threat modeling framework, we analyze threat vectors specific to QC, identifying key areas most susceptible to quantum-enabled attacks, such as private key compromise, consensus disruptions, and smart contract integrity risks. Our contributions provide actionable recommendations and mitigation strategies, including a detailed security blueprint for quantum resilience, encompassing post-quantum cryptography, quantum-safe key exchange protocols, and quantum-resistant hash functions. We offer best practices for implementation, focusing on key management, secure coding, and network security to strengthen BC components against quantum threats. To mitigate the risk of QC during the transition period from classical to quantum-resistant BCs, we present two hybrid BC architectures. As part of a comprehensive quantum resilience strategy, these architectures facilitate a secure and scalable migration by integrating platform-specific adaptations that balance security, adaptability, and operational efficiency. Our analysis extends to major BC platforms, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and Zcash, providing platform-specific vulnerability assessments and highlighting unique weaknesses in the quantum era. By identifying vulnerabilities, developing proactive defense strategies, and adopting a structured hybrid migration approach, this research equips BC stakeholders with a robust framework to achieve long-term security and resilience against emerging quantum threats. In this study, a low-pass filter was designed using a combination of rectangular-type resonators and high-impedance T-shaped resonators, resulting in a filter with a wide stopband, high roll-off, and low insertion loss. This filter exhibits promising potential for advanced wireless communication applications. The design process was conducted using the Advanced Design System (ADS), with the substrate material being Rogers 5880 with a thickness of 0.787 mm.

In recent years, algorithm unrolling has emerged as a powerful technique for designing interpretable neural networks based on iterative algorithms. Imaging inverse problems have particularly benefited from unrolling-based deep network design since many traditional model-based approaches rely on iterative optimization. Despite exciting progress, typical unrolling approaches heuristically design layer-specific convolution weights to improve performance. Crucially, convergence properties of the underlying iterative algorithm are lost once layer-specific parameters are learned from training data. We propose an unrolling technique that breaks the trade-off between retaining algorithm properties while simultaneously enhancing performance. We focus on image deblurring and unrolling the widely-applied Half-Quadratic Splitting (HQS) algorithm. We develop a new parametrization scheme which enforces layer-specific parameters to asymptotically approach certain fixed points. Through extensive experimental studies, we verify that our approach achieves competitive performance with state-of-the-art unrolled layer-specific learning and significantly improves over the traditional HQS algorithm. We further establish convergence of the proposed unrolled network as the number of layers approaches infinity, and characterize its convergence rate. Our experimental verification involves simulations that validate the analytical results as well as comparison with state-of-the-art non-blind deblurring techniques on benchmark datasets. This paper proposes an energy efficient resource allocation design algorithm for an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted downlink ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) network. This setup features a multi-antenna base station (BS) transmitting data traffic to a group of URLLC users with short packet lengths. We maximize the total network's energy efficiency (EE) through the optimization of active beamformers at the BS and passive beamformers (a.k.a, phase shifts) at the IRS. The main non-convex problem is divided into two sub-problems. An alternating optimization (AO) approach is then used to solve the problem. Through the use of the successive convex approximation (SCA) with a novel iterative rank relaxation method, we construct a concave-convex objective function for each sub-problem. The first sub-problem is a fractional program that is solved using the Dinkelbach method and a penalty-based approach. The second sub-problem is then solved based on semi-definite programming (SDP) and the penalty-based approach. The iterative solution gradually approaches the rank-one for both the active beamforming and unit modulus IRS phase-shift sub-problems. Our results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed solution compared to existing benchmarks. © 2023 IEEE.

Increasing amounts of data are being generated every year. Sustainable computing systems have become capable of extracting and learning information from the underlying data. Edge and AI (artificial intelligence) are expanding into industrial systems requiring new computing and networking infrastructure. Due to this, SLA computing is becoming increasingly challenging to handle in these emerging cloud environments. The cloud is a service that provides virtual resources to users. Qualitative and quantitative findings in market-oriented approaches are one of the most common methods for managing virtual and physical machines in a network. When allocating services, price is an important factor to consider. In this study, we aim to determine the initial price of VMs while considering the dynamic pricing model in a competitive, sustainable computing system. Besides negotiation-based trading, a multifactor architecture is used for trading in the marketplace. Based on the simulation results, it was found that the performance could be improved by categorizing the VMs based on regression. According to the simulation results, the cloud market system provides a better service-level agreement (SLA) and response time when assigning virtual machines to the market. Based on the results, we found that using the regression method for categorizing the VMs to manage the market improved the SLA. © 2023, The Author(s).

This research presents an ultra-wideband power divider crafted through the integration of bending arcs and tapered lines. Four sections of these components, accompanied by resistors, enhance isolation. The power divider demonstrates favorable return loss of −10 dB from 3 GHz to 14 GHz. Output return loss and isolation also exceed −10 dB across the entire 3 GHz to 14 GHz frequency spectrum. ADS software facilitates simulation on a 0.8mm thick Rogers 5880 substrate.
