The design and implementation of SemreX is studied in this paper, which is a semantic Peer-to-Peer (P2P) scientific references sharing system. Compared with other systems, SemreX extracts the bibliographic information from the PDF file directly, categorizes the paper into a sub-field of ACM Topic based on the semantic matching, and provides PDF file exchanging and comments of papers sharing in the P2P manner. The routing algorithms in the prototype system are discussed, and the heterogeneous reference formats are investigated, which is an obstacle needs to be cleared to improve the accuracy of extraction. © 2006 IEEE.

In this paper we present GPE4CGSP, which targets the interoperability between GPE (grid Programming Environment) and CGSP (Chinagrid Support Platform). The web services technique and gridftp data transfer protocol are used to implement the interoperation between GPE and CGSP. grid application can be deployed to CGSP through GPE. Without modification, GPE client can freely visit and use the resources in CGSP. Typically, end users can submit jobs to CGSP through GPE application client. GPE4CGSP provides one feasible way for the interoperability of heterogeneous grid infrastructures. The evaluation proves that the job execution time of GPE4CGSP is less than that of GPE4GTK. © 2007 ACM.

This paper presents ALTER, an adaptive failure detection service, which incorporates the technique of unreliable failure detection service and the idea of R-GMA. ALTER is organized in a hierarchical structure and it can be adaptive to the system conditions and user requirements with changing the system parameters and system organizations. With mathematical evaluation, ALTER shows good scalability and flexibility, which is suitable for grid environments. Copyright 2006 ACM.

grid information service influences quality of service for grid platforms directly. In this paper, based on network latency, network coordinate is introduced into grid information service to locate each grid node. By network coordinates, network latency between user and resource providers can be forecasted, and the result can be submitted to grid information service, which offers a list of resource providers with increasing of network latency. The proposal is suitable for time-sensitive applications and can enhance the ability of grid resource sharing and collaboration. © 2006 ACM.

This paper introduces a novel lightweight clock synchronization protocol (LCSP) and BUB clock synchronization algorithm based on real-time micro-kernel. Unlike other clock synchronization approaches which rely on redundant exchanged messages, this approach takes advantages of the traffic smoothing technique at each end node to suppress or "block" other traffics during the clock synchronization duration. The BUB algorithm efficiently decreases the number of synchronization messages exchanged during each synchronization round and can easily extend to large distributed real-time systems. Performance evaluation results prove that the LCSP protocol and the BUB algorithm can provide perfect synchronization precision and are appropriate for most distributed hard real-time and embedded control systems, when integrated with the traffic smoothing technique. © 2006 IEEE.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) has become an important computing model because of its adaptation, selforganization and autonomy. But how to organize dynamic nodes in P2P networks efficiently for gaming message passing services is still a challenge. This paper present an approach, named D-overlay, a delay-aware overlay for gaming services, to implement node clustering based on link delay of nodes communications in the P2P network. This approach measures the delays among peers, explores the node connectivity together with the connection quality. Then, it builds a service ring for each peer according to its latency status, and keeps the low latency among neighbors by periodical adjustments. D-overlay improves the extensibility and reliability. One system, called PKTown, has been deployed based on D-overlay in CERNET of China. © 2008 IEEE.

To provide live streaming services based on peer-to-peer overlays is popular now. Previous researches put their emphasis on how to improve overlays efficiency with single overlay optimizations. These optimizations have drawbacks such as low resources utilization, high startup delay and source-to-end delay, and unreasonable resources assignment in global P2P network. To solve these problems, we propose an Intersecting-overlays optimizations scheme in this paper. This new idea has the following characteristics: 1) basically it can improve resources utilization of global P2P network;2) resources can be assigned reasonably with the consideration of locality and delay;3) streaming services qualities, such as delay and playback continuity, can be improved greatly. To prove the idea, we carry out several simulations and compare with traditional system. Results from simulations are quite encouraging, high resources utilization and good QoS of streaming services. © 2006 IEEE.

The memory-intensive embedding layer in recommendation model continues to be the performance bottleneck. While prior works have attempted to improve the embedding layer performance by exploiting the data locality to cache the frequently accessed embedding vectors and their partial sums. However, these solutions rely on the static cache, which is inapplicable in the embedding training scenario where the embedding vectors are updated frequently. To this end, this paper proposes ReFree, a redundancy-free near-memory processing (NMP) solution for recommendation model training. Specifically, ReFree identifies the reusable data in realtime for both embedding layer forward and backward stages and leverages a lightweight NMP architecture to enable redundancy-free near-memory acceleration of the entire embedding training process. Evaluation results on real-world datasets show that ReFree outperforms the state-of-the-art solutions by 10.9× and reduces 5.3× energy consumption on average. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Emerging Non-Volatile Main Memory (NVMM) technologies generally feature high density, low energy consumption and cost per bit compared to DRAM. However, the limited write endurance of NVMM poses a significant challenge of using NVMM as an substitute for DRAM. This paper proposes a space-oblivious compression and wear-leveling based memory architecture to improve the write endurance of NVMM. As memory blocks of many applications usually contain a large amount of zero bytes and frequent values, we propose a nonuniform compression encoding scheme that integrates Zero Deduplication with Frequent Value Compression (called ZD-FVC) to reduce bit-writes on NVMM. Moreover, we leverage the memory space available through compression to achieve an intra-block wear leveling policy. It rotates the writing positions of a compressed data block within the data’s initial memory space, and thus enhances write endurance by balancing the bit-writes per NVMM cell. ZD-FVC can be integrated into the NVMM module and implemented entirely by hardware, without any intervention of Operating Systems. We implement ZD-FVC in Gem5 and NVMain simulators, and evaluate it with several programs from SPEC CPU2006. Experimental results shows that ZD-FVC is much better than several state-of-the-art approaches. Particularly, ZD-FVC can improve data compression ratio by 55% compared to Frequent Value Compression. Compared with the Data Comparison Write, ZD-FVC is able to significantly improve the lifetime of NVMM by 3.3X on average, and also reduces NVMM write latency by 31% and energy consumption by 19% on average. © 2020 36th International Conference on Massive Storage Systems and technology, MSST 2020. Mobile data offloading has already appeared to offer the means of addressing the challenges of limited computing capability and battery life of mobile devices. Most existing code offloading frameworks only consider migrating an application within a single network at a time and failed to fully utilize the energy efficiency mechanism of the latest CPU chips. To tackle these issues, we propose an offloading approach under both a multitasking environment and a heterogeneous network to increase energy and execution efficiency. The offloading problem was formulated as a biobjective optimization problem that aims to save energy and keep a good performance by combining mobile cloud computing with *** technology under a heterogeneous network equipped with cellular and WiFi connectivity. By varying the applications and network scenarios, the experimental results show that with offloading a single application using our proposed framework, the data-intensive application can obviously benefit when the access point density of WiFi reaches 0.0002 unit/m2. Under multiple application scenarios, our proposed framework can increase processing speed by an average of 0.3× over the single application and can save an average of 25% power over the single application. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
