Agent-based grid data loading method aims at integrating heterogeneous hospitalspsila information systems into a medical information exchange platform based on grid middleware. It collects distributed data sets for decision support system, which makes data sources expanded from independent database modes to medical information systems in wide area. Virtual data access with grid service improves data security and makes data modification in local system more flexible. HL7 protocol and middleware are utilized to transform HL7 data into various local data structures for keeping the independence of each hospital information system and providing more convenience and expansibility for various medical applications.

In multi-VM (virtual machine) environment, the virtual machine network management plays an important role. Traditional multi-VM management systems are accustomed to using the DHCP mechanism. However, with the development of virtual network technology, DHCP is not suitable for constructing the stable and transparent virtual network environment. In this paper, we propose a method of multi-VM automatic network configuration, which focuses on multi-VM to initialize and configure the virtual network and provides a unified network management for physical and virtual machine system. We introduce concise communication model and protocol into the system to form a unified set of management mechanisms devoting to construct and simplify virtual machine environment. Through the performance comparison with XenServer, the multi-VM automatic network configuration system could improve the communication efficiency by 8-17% in average during the period of network initialization, and it stabilizes the whole network during the period of changing network configuration.

The size of volumetric data generated by medical imaging and scientific simulations is increased significantly due to the dramatic advances in medical imaging modalities and computing technologies. The volumetric data generally need to be visualized and marching cubes algorithm (MC for short) is one of the standard methods of the isosurface extraction for the medical applications. However, MC algorithm requires a large amount of data computing power. The cell broadband engine (Cell for short) processor, which is a typical COTS (commodity off-the-shelf) heterogeneous designed to handle extremely demanding computations, can be used to hasten isosurface extraction in medial application. In this paper, we present a streaming model-based scheme to efficiently map MC algorithm to Cell. Specifically, a block-based filter running on PPE is imposed as a preprocessing stage to avoid unnecessary data transfer and computation, and the MC kernel runs on SPEs as the subsequent stage. Through tuning the size of the block, the workload of PPE and SPE is orchestrated harmoniously. The experimental results demonstrate that overall isosurface extraction speedup of more than 10 times is achieved compared with conventional heavy iron CPUs.

We design and implement a Mandatory Access Control (MAC) system in distributed virtual computing environment, named DVM-MAC, aiming to provide distributed trust through enforcing MAC policies. In DVM-MAC, Prioritized Chinese Wall (PCW) model is implemented to control potential covert channels between VMs in both single node and distributed environment. A policy enforcement module locates inside Xen VMM for better enforcing MAC locally rather than outside the VMM. DVM-MAC adopts centralized architecture for multi-level management and secure transmission of inter-node policy information. For performance consideration, a specific policy decision and enforcement module for controlling inter-node behaviors is moved out of Xen VMM and up to user space. DVM-MAC authorizes a specific center node named Central Security Server (CSS) to be responsible for the decision making between the nodes as well as leaves the inter-node policy enforcement module in each node. Through our experiments and data analysis, we verify the correctness, effectiveness, and efficiency in our prototype when implementing PCW model.

Chip multi-processor (CMP) increases processor throughput by duplicating resources for many threads. Due to the main frequency of a single processor approaching to limit, CMP is becoming more and more popular. However, it is not well studied how to evaluate a new CMP design by simulation. This paper analyzes the possible organizations of cores on a CMP and then presents a mathematical model for the simulation times. It also provides a sampling policy used to reduce the simulation times. The sampling experiments show that the simulation time is 7.5 days under condition that the required confidence level is 95% and confidence interval is 4 when the benchmarks in SPEC CPU2000 are used. As for the simulation of CMPs, the simulation time is very short.

The large population exerts high burdens to Chinese health census works. In this paper, we propose our PDCAS (pulmonary disease census aiding system) based on medical image grid, which aims to utilize the superiorities of grid technology to improve the efficiency of high-incidence and occupational pulmonary disease census. PDCAS integrates the individual medical information distributed in different hospitalspsila information systems into Medical Information Centre of one area. The census records are classified through one risk rate based cross clustering model to direct the medical diagnosis and review. The main processing algorithms of PDCAS are subdivided and encapsulated as detachable Web services with adapted granularity to support the grid workflow composition corresponding to different pulmonary diseases or aiding aims. The prototype of PDCAS proves the possible improvement of grid technology to diseases census and other data intensive medical applications.

Recently there have been increasing attentions on the security aspects in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks, especially with respect to worm epidemics. However, existing worm containment mechanisms can be largely ineffective due to the long delay exhibited in worm identification and patch generation. In this paper, we propose a new worm containment algorithm based on the concept of overlay partition, which can effectively quarantine worms into small and more manageable sub-networks. This algorithm relies on a simple anomaly detection which takes effect much faster than existing schemes. With ldquobridge linksrdquo, the alert of an anomaly can be disseminated faster than random scanning and dedicated worms. Further, in order to deal with false positives, we propose a granularity based clustering algorithm, called CAGA, which, through extensive simulation, is shown to realize better service sustenance during unnecessary partition caused by false positives and can effectively contain fast worms. Finally, we examine the effects of topologies and network dynamics.

Development of Internet brings the great increasing communication requirement. This demand impels the developing progress of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). It is difficult to supply the high quality user experience for VoIP services, which has brought great challenges to VoIP developer because of the dynamic property of Internet. We obtain the following results in lots of existing VoIP systems: (1) many relay peer selections are suboptimal; (2) the waiting time to select a relay node can be quite long; (3) there are a large number of unnecessary probes, resulting in heavy network traffic. This paper presents a way called novel application-layer relay strategy (NARS) to solve relay problem and improve scalability. We introduce the mechanism in detail, and test our mechanism in NS2 network simulation environment and get a high relay node hit ratio result, which confirms the feasibility of NARS. Also we make a comparison with the other existing models.

As an important part of computer forensics, network forensics particularly places emphasis on dynamic network information collection and proactive defense. Most forensics systems based on intrusion detection or honeypot rarely emphasize the availability of actual servers. In addition, few of them discussed the occasion of dynamic forensics particularly. The work presented in this paper is based on an idea to assist dynamic forensics with intrusion tolerance and deception technology to enhance the availability of server system and gather more useful evidences on a proper occasion. A mechanism of dynamic forensics based on intrusion forensics is proposed and is modeled with finite state machine. The workflow is described. A semi Markov process based on the embedded Markov chain of the states transition model is built and described. Finally, the forensics capability and server availability are analysis. According to the numerical analysis result, the security performance and forensics capability of the forensics system are enhanced to a certain degree.

Scheduling is essential in peer-to-peer (P2P) video-on-demand (VoD) applications to obtain desirable user experience and high sharing efficiency. Existing systems and proposals largely utilize scheduling mechanisms that are periodical in nature. We refer these as time-driven scheduling. In this paper we argue that the time-driven scheduling algorithm is not efficient for P2P VoD due to its inadequate resource utilization and inability in quickly adapting to the potential dynamics in such systems. We propose an event-driven scheduling algorithm for P2P VoD systems, in which the scheduler is triggered by events such as peer churn or/and random seeks. We evaluate our design through extensive simulations, and the experimental results show that event-driven scheduling outperforms time-driven scheduling in terms of both user experience and system scalability.
