Code intelligence leverages machine learning techniques to extract knowledge from extensive code corpora, with the aim of developing intelligent tools to improve the quality and productivity of computer programming. Currently, there is already a thriving research community focusing on code intelligence, with efforts ranging from software engineering, machine learning, data mining, natural language processing, and programming languages. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive literature review on deep learning for code intelligence, from the aspects of code representation learning, deep learning techniques, and application tasks. We also benchmark several state-of-the-art neural models for code intelligence, and provide an open-source toolkit tailored for the rapid prototyping of deep-learning-based code intelligence models. In particular, we inspect the existing code intelligence models under the basis of code representation learning, and provide a comprehensive overview to enhance comprehension of the present state of code intelligence. Furthermore, we publicly release the source code and data resources to provide the community with a ready-to-use benchmark, which can facilitate the evaluation and comparison of existing and future code intelligence models (https://***). Contrastive Learning for Robust Android Malware Familial Classification

Due to its open-source nature, Android operating system has been the main target of attackers to exploit. Malware creators always perform different code obfuscations on their apps to hide malicious activities. Features extracted from these obfuscated samples through program analysis contain many useless and disguised features, which leads to many false negatives. To address the issue, in this paper, we demonstrate that obfuscation-resilient malware family analysis can be achieved through contrastive learning. The key insight behind our analysis is that contrastive learning can be used to reduce the difference introduced by obfuscation while amplifying the difference between malware and other types of malware. Based on the proposed analysis, we design a system that can achieve robust and interpretable classification of Android malware. To achieve robust classification, we perform contrastive learning on malware samples to learn an encoder that can automatically extract robust features from malware samples. To achieve interpretable classification, we transform the function call graph of a sample into an image by centrality analysis. Then the corresponding heatmaps can be obtained by visualization techniques. These heatmaps can help users understand why the malware is classified as this family. We implement IFDroid and perform extensive evaluations on two datasets. Experimental results show that IFDroid is superior to state-of-the-art Android malware familial classification systems. Temporal knowledge graph (TKG) reasoning has attracted significant attention. Recent approaches for modeling historical information have led to great advances. However, the problems of time variability and unseen entities have become two major obstacles preventing further development. The time variability problem means that different historical timestamps play different roles in the inference process. Furthermore, in the context of time variability, the unseen entity problem means that a query cannot obtain a predicted entity that is unseen in the scale-varying history rather than in a fixed set, thus turning from static to dynamic. In this paper, we propose a novel method named DHU-NET for addressing the time variability challenge and the dynamic unseen entity challenge derived from it. With regard to the former concern, we propose a time-distributed representation learning method based on a graph convolutional network(GCN) and a self-attention mechanism, which learns the distributed representations of facts at different historical timestamps and comprehensively pays different levels of attention to the different timestamps. With regard to the latter issue, we extract the unseen entities from a global static KG based on a copy mechanism and bring them into consideration during the final prediction step. Experiments on six benchmark datasets demonstrate the substantial improvements achieved by DHUNET in terms of multiple evaluation metrics. FunctionFlow:coordinating parallel tasks

With the growing allel programming,nowadays popularity of task-based partask-parallel programming libraries and languages are still with limited support for coordinating parallel *** limitation forces programmers to use additional independent components to coordinate the parallel tasks -the components can be third-party libraries or additional components in the same programming library or ***,mixing tasks and coordination components increase the difficulty of task-based programming,and blind schedulers for understanding tasks'dependencies. In this paper,we propose a task-based parallel programming library,Function Flow,which coordinates tasks in the purpose of avoiding additional independent coordination ***,we use dependency expression to represent ubiquitous tasks'*** key idea behind dependency expression is to use && for both task's termination and Ⅱ for any task termination,along with the combination of dependency ***,as runtime support,we use a lightweight representation for dependency expression. Also,we use suspended-task queue to schedule tasks that still have prerequisites to run. Finally,we demonstrate Function Flow's effectiveness in two aspects,case study about implementing popular parallel patterns with FunctionFIow,and performance comparision with state-of-the-art practice,*** demonstration shows that FunctionFIow can generally coordinate parallel tasks without involving additional components,along with comparable performance with TBB.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) enables web data caching in close geographic proximity to end users. Popular data can be cached on edge servers located less than hundreds of meters away from end users. This ensures bounded latency guarantees for various latency-sensitive web applications. However, transmitting a large volume of data out of the cloud onto many geographically-distributed web servers individually can be expensive. In addition, web content dissemination may be interrupted by various intentional and accidental events in the volatile MEC environment, which undermines dissemination efficiency and subsequently incurs extra transmission costs. To tackle the above challenges, we present a novel scheme named EdgeDis that coordinates data dissemination by distributed consensus among those servers. We analyze EdgeDis’s validity theoretically and evaluate its performance experimentally. Results demonstrate that compared with baseline and state-of-the-art schemes, EdgeDis: 1) is 5.97x - 7.52x faster;2) reduces dissemination costs by 48.21% to 91.87%;and 3) reduces performance loss caused by dissemination failures by up to 97.30% in time and 96.35% in costs. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

Shielding Federated Learning: Robust Aggregation with Adaptive Client Selection

Federated learning (FL) enables multiple clients to collaboratively train an accurate global model while protecting clients’ data privacy. However, FL is susceptible to Byzantine attacks from malicious participants. Although the problem has gained significant attention, existing defenses have several flaws: the server irrationally chooses malicious clients for aggregation even after they have been detected in previous rounds;the defenses perform ineffectively against sybil attacks or in the heterogeneous data setting. To overcome these issues, we propose MAB-RFL, a new method for robust aggregation in FL. By modelling the client selection as an extended multi-armed bandit (MAB) problem, we propose an adaptive client selection strategy to choose honest clients that are more likely to contribute high-quality updates. We then propose two approaches to identify malicious updates from sybil and non-sybil attacks, based on which rewards for each client selection decision can be accurately evaluated to discourage malicious behaviors. MAB-RFL achieves a satisfying balance between exploration and exploitation on the potential benign clients. Extensive experimental results show that MAB-RFL outperforms existing defenses in three attack scenarios under different percentages of attackers. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Multi-instance learning (MIL) is a celebrated learning framework where each example is represented as a bag of instances. An example is negative if it has no positive instances, and vice versa if at least one positive instance is contained. During the past decades, various MIL algorithms have been proposed, among which the large margin based methods is a very popular class. Recently, the studies on margin theory disclose that the margin distribution is of more importance to generalization ability than the minimal margin. Inspired by this observation, we propose the multi-instance optimal margin distribution machine, which can identify the key instances via explicitly optimizing the margin distribution. We also extend a stochastic accelerated mirror prox method to solve the formulated minimax problem. Extensive experiments show the superiority of the proposed method. © 2020 Inst. Sci. inf., Univ. Fault tolerance in parallel computing becomes increasingly important with a significant rise in high-performance computing systems. Coordinated checkpointing and message logging protocols are commonly used fault tolerance mechanisms for message-passing applications. However, these mechanisms are insufficient because of their severe drawbacks. Hierarchical rollback-recovery protocols, combining coordinated checkpointing with message logging, are a better solution. However, such protocols may not obtain the appropriate efficiency because the communication pattern in different stages of applications may vary at runtime. In an effort to improve the efficiency of hierarchical rollback-recovery protocols, we propose a dynamic cluster strategy to adapt to the runtime variation of communication pattern by using a prediction scheme. Finally, the efficiency and scalability of the dynamic cluster strategy are evaluated using 2 static process partition algorithms on the High-Performance Linpack benchmark. © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Vflh: A Following-the-Leader-History Based Algorithm for Adaptive Online Convex Optimization with Stochastic Constraints

This paper considers online convex optimization (OCO) with generated i.i.d. stochastic constraints, where the distribution of environment is changing and the performance is measured by \textit{adaptive regret}. The stochastic constraints are disclosed at each round to the learner after the decision is made. Different from the previous non-adaptive constrained OCO algorithm which is generalized based on the traditional online gradient descent algorithm, we propose a novel \textit{Virtual queue based Following-the-Leader-History} (VFLH) strategy to make the constrained OCO algorithm adaptive and design the VFLH algorithm. In this setting, the algorithm firstly generalizes all the experts in the specified time interval, then decides the optimal decision with each expert and gives out the final choice by combining the predictions of active experts. In terms of the algorithm performance, there are two performance metrics to be evaluated, i.e., the bounds of constraint violation and regret. For the constraint violation, we bring in the multi-objective drift analysis approach to deal with the constraints via a virtual queue which provides a new method to bound the constraints violations. For the regret, we give out its upper bound and then achieve a corresponding lower bound that proves the upper bound is sufficiently tight. Finally, we provide some numerical experiments to validate the feasibility of our algorithm. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
