Peers in multiple P2P applications execute overlapped operations with different implementation, like neighbour management, resource publish/lookup, delay investigation, which leads to poor interoperability and unnecessary network load. Peers contribute their resources only when they stay in same application. We propose a P2P middleware, called Ripple, to accomplish common functions in a layered architecture. Ripple manages all peers running various applications in a uniform substrate overlay network. The substrate overlay is designed with a hybrid topology. This hybrid topology does not aim at only a particular type of applications, but also enables the flexibility for various applications. Our work is an attempt to address common needs of P2P applications, which may simplify the development and improve the performance of P2P networks, as well as mitigate the sampling stress to physical networks.

grids provide infrastructures and solutions to solve large scale cooperative problems such as large scale distributed virtual environment simulation, multi-institutional scientific computing and data analysis, etc. In this paper, the key techniques for grid computing based large scale distributed cooperative virtual environment simulation (GDCVES) are discussed and a hierarchical architecture of GDCVES is proposed. The solutions of GDCVES, such as resource management, massive data management, security aware task scheduling, and fault-tolerance are also discussed. To evaluate the feasibility and scalability of GDCVES, a prototype was implemented and the simulation workflow framework is also analyzed.

In traditional grid, grid user can not validate whether grid service registered in grid platform can execute correctly or not because the system does not provide the measurement mechanism for grid service. In order to solve this problem, we propose a series of strategies and methods for trusted grid. These strategies and methods include: an access control policy for reference database, an integrity attestation for reference datasheet, a construction method of reference datasheet, a trusted storage algorithm of reference datasheet and a report algorithm of reference datasheet. All these constitute the measurement mechanism of service for trusted grid. Some experiments are done in order to validate the feasibility and the availability of this mechanism. The results show that it is feasible and efficient to validate whether grid service registered in trusted grid platform can execute correctly or not.

This paper proposes a realistic data grid system named Jobgrid to construct information platform for Chinese college graduates employment, which supports centralized transaction processing to ensure consistent, effective operation in data access, control, monitor and analysis, and distributed data management to provide heterogeneous data integration, conversion, exaction and export. Jobgrid has implemented global uniform view and massively heterogeneous data access, and provided efficiently data and transactions processing and cooperative control mechanism for distributed resource over grid.

A 155 Mbps laser diode driver with automatic power and extinction ratio control

An integrated laser diode driver(LDD) driving an edge-emitting laser diode was designed and fabricated by 0.35 μm BiCMOS technology. This paper proposes a scheme which combines the automatic power control loop and temperature com-pensation for modulation current in order to maintain constant extinction ratio and average optical power. To implement tem-perature compensation for modulation current,a novel circuit which generates a PTAT current by using the injecting base current of a bipolar transistor in saturation region,and alternates the amplifier feedback loop(closed or not) to control the state of the current path is presented. Simulation results showed that programmed by choice of external resistors,the IC can provide modu-lation current from 5 mA to 85 mA with temperature compensation adjustments and independent bias current from 4 mA to 100 mA. Optical test results showed that clear eye-diagrams can be obtained at 155 Mbps,with the output optical power being nearly constant,and the variation of extinction ratio being lower than 0.7 dB.

Nowadays, Peer-to-Peer technology has been widely used in live streaming applications and many related systems are proposed. However, their single overlay design and unbalanced scheduling methods lead to some inefficiency including high control overhead and bad playback experience. This paper mainly discusses how to address these certain problems. We introduce a hybrid architecture to solve the locality problem and reduce the control overhead. We also propose a scheduling method to achieve load balance. All solutions are implemented in Anysee2.

In grid, it is an important strategy that using multicast to realize the large-scale information resource sharing. However, it is very difficult to ensure the security of multicast. In this paper, based on the basic principles of the centralized key distributed strategy and the distributed key distribution strategy, according to the multicast mechanism in grid, considering the dynamic factors of multicast members, we present the member hierarchy method for key distribution, the member discovery protocol, the clustering protocol and the key distribution strategy, thus constituting the key distribution strategy of security multicast in grid. In order to validate the feasibility and the availability of this strategy, a simulation experiment is done. The results show that it is feasible and efficient to ensure the security multicast in grid.

New image thresholding method based on graph spectral theory

In this paper, a novel thresholding algorithm is presented to achieve improved image segmentation performance at low computational cost. The proposed algorithm uses the normalized graph cut measure as the thresholding principle to distinguish an object from the background, as such fair treatment of different sets of diversified sizes is ensured. The weight matrices used in evaluating the graph cuts are based on the gray levels of an image, rather than the commonly used image pixels. For most images, the number of gray levels is much smaller than the number of pixels. Therefore, the proposed algorithm occupies much smaller storage space and requires much lower computational costs and implementation complexity than other graph-based image segmentation algorithms. This fact makes the proposed algorithm attractive in various real-time vision applications such as automatic target recognition (ATR). A large number of examples are presented to show the superior performance of the proposed thresholding algorithm compared to existing thresholding algorithms.
