Container-based virtualization isbecoming increasingly popular in cloud computing due to its efficiency and *** isolation is a fundamental property of *** works have indicated weak resource isolation could cause significant performance degradation for containerized applications and enhanced resource ***,current studies have almost not discussed the isolation problems of page cache which is a key resource for *** leverage memory cgroup to control page cache ***,existing policy introduces two major problems in a container-based ***,containers can utilize more memory than limited by their cgroup,effectively breaking memory ***,the Os kernel has to evict page cache to make space for newly-arrived memory requests,slowing down containerized *** paper performs an empirical study of these problems and demonstrates the performance impacts on containerized *** we propose pCache(precise control of page cache)to address the problems by dividing page cache into private and shared and controlling both kinds of page cache separately and *** do so,pCache leverages two new technologies:fair account(f-account)and evict on demand(EoD).F-account splits the shared page cache charging based on per-container share to prevent containers from using memory for free,enhancing memory *** EoD reduces unnecessary page cache evictions to avoid the performance *** evaluation results demonstrate that our system can effectively enhance memory isolation for containers and achieve substantial performance improvement over the original page cache management policy.

In modern computer systems, system event logs have always been the primary source for checking system status. As computer systems become more and more complex, the interaction between software and hardware increases frequently. The components will generate enormous log information, including running reports and fault information. The sheer quantity of data is a great challenge for analysis relying on the manual method. In this paper, we implement a management and analysis system of log information, which can assist system administrators to understand the real-time status of the entire system, classify logs into different fault types, and determine the root cause of the faults. In addition, we improve the existing fault correlation analysis method based on the results of system log classification. We apply the system in a cloud computing environment for evaluation. The results show that our system can classify fault logs automatically and effectively. With the proposed system, administrators can easily detect the root cause of faults.

Answering reachability queries with ordered label constraints over labeled graphs

Reachability query plays a vital role in many graph analysis *** researches proposed many methods to efficiently answer reachability queries between vertex *** many real graphs are labeled graph,it highly demands Label-Constrained Reachability(LCR)query inwhich constraint includes a set of labels besides vertex *** researches proposed several methods for answering some LCR queries which require appearance of some labels specified in constraints in the *** that constraint may be a label set,query constraint may be ordered labels,namely OLCR(Ordered-Label-Constrained Reachability)queries which retrieve paths matching a sequence of ***,no solutions are available for ***,we propose DHL,a novel bloom filter based indexing technique for answering OLCR *** can be used to check reachability between vertex *** the answers are not no,then constrained DFS is ***,we employ DHL followed by performing constrained DFS to answer OLCR *** show that DHL has a bounded false positive rate,and it's powerful in saving indexing time and *** experiments on 10 real-life graphs and 12 synthetic graphs demonstrate that DHL achieves about 4.8-22.5 times smaller index space and 4.6-114 times less index construction time than two state-of-art techniques for LCR queries,while achieving comparable query response *** results also show that our algorithm can answer OLCR queries effectively.

VMStore: Distributed storage system for multiple virtual machines

Desktop virtualization is a very hot concept in both industry and academic communities. Since virtualized desktop system is based on multiple virtual machines (VM), it is necessary to design a distributed storage system to manage the VM images. In this paper, we design a distributed storage system, VMStore, by taking into account three important characteristics: high performance VM snapshot, booting optimization from multiple images and redundancy removal of images data. We adopt a direct index structure of blocks for VM snapshots to speed up VM booting performance significantly; provide a distribute storage structure with good bandwidth scalability by dynamically changing the number of storage nodes; and propose a data preprocessing strategy with intelligent object partitioning techniques, which would eliminate duplication more effectively. Performance analysis for VMStore focuses on two metrics: the speedup of VM booting and the overhead of de-duplication. Experimental results show the efficiency and effectiveness of VMStore.

A hybrid memory architecture supporting fine-grained data migration

Hybrid memory systems composed of dynamic random access memory(DRAM)and Non-volatile memory(NVM)often exploit page migration technologies to fully take the advantages of different memory *** previous proposals usually migrate data at a granularity of 4 KB pages,and thus waste memory bandwidth and DRAM *** this paper,we propose Mocha,a non-hierarchical architecture that organizes DRAM and NVM in a flat address space physically,but manages them in a cache/memory *** the commercial NVM device-Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory Modules(DCPMM)actually access the physical media at a granularity of 256 bytes(an Optane block),we manage the DRAM cache at the 256-byte size to adapt to this feature of *** design not only enables fine-grained data migration and management for the DRAM cache,but also avoids write amplification for Intel Optane *** also create an Indirect Address Cache(IAC)in Hybrid Memory Controller(HMC)and propose a reverse address mapping table in the DRAM to speed up address translation and cache ***,we exploit a utility-based caching mechanism to filter cold blocks in the NVM,and further improve the efficiency of the DRAM *** implement Mocha in an architectural *** results show that Mocha can improve application performance by 8.2%on average(up to 24.6%),reduce 6.9%energy consumption and 25.9%data migration traffic on average,compared with a typical hybrid memory architecture-HSCC.

Toward High-Performance Delta-Based Iterative Processing with a Group-Based Approach

Many systems have been built to employ the delta-based iterative execution model to support iterative algorithms on distributed platforms by exploiting the sparse computational dependencies between data items of these iterative algorithms in a synchronous or asynchronous approach. However, for large-scale iterative algorithms, existing synchronous solutions suffer from slow convergence speed and load imbalance, because of the strict barrier between iterations;while existing asynchronous approaches induce excessive redundant communication and computation cost as a result of being barrier-free. In view of the performance trade-off between these two approaches, this paper designs an efficient execution manager, called Aiter-R, which can be integrated into existing delta-based iterative processing systems to efficiently support the execution of delta-based iterative algorithms, by using our proposed group-based iterative execution approach. It can efficiently and correctly explore the middle ground of the two extremes. A heuristic scheduling algorithm is further proposed to allow an iterative algorithm to adaptively choose its trade-off point so as to achieve the maximum efficiency. Experimental results show that Aiter-R strikes a good balance between the synchronous and asynchronous policies and outperforms state-of-the-art solutions. It reduces the execution time by up to 54.1% and 84.6% in comparison with existing asynchronous and the synchronous models, respectively.

Entity linking refers to linking a string in a text to corresponding entities in a knowledge base through candidate entity generation and candidate entity *** is of great significance to some NLP(natural language processing)tasks,such as question *** English entity linking,Chinese entity linking requires more consideration due to the lack of spacing and capitalization in text sequences and the ambiguity of characters and words,which is more evident in certain *** Chinese domains,such as industry,the generated candidate entities are usually composed of long strings and are heavily *** addition,the meanings of the words that make up industrial entities are sometimes *** semantic space is a subspace of the general word embedding space,and thus each entity word needs to get its exact ***,we propose two schemes to achieve better Chinese entity ***,we implement an ngram based candidate entity generation method to increase the recall rate and reduce the nesting ***,we enhance the corresponding candidate entity ranking mechanism by introducing sense *** the contradiction between the ambiguity of word vectors and the single sense of the industrial domain,we design a sense embedding model based on graph clustering,which adopts an unsupervised approach for word sense induction and learns sense representation in conjunction with *** test the embedding quality of our approach on classical datasets and demonstrate its disambiguation ability in general *** confirm that our method can better learn candidate entities’fundamental laws in the industrial domain and achieve better performance on entity linking through experiments.

Discovering Cohesive Temporal Subgraphs with Temporal Density Aware Exploration

Real-world networks,such as social networks,cryptocurrency networks,and e-commerce networks,always have occurrence time of interactions between *** networks are typically modeled as temporal *** cohesive subgraphs from temporal graphs is practical and essential in numerous data mining applications,since mining cohesive subgraphs gets insights into the time-varying nature of temporal ***,existing studies on mining cohesive subgraphs,such as Densest-Exact and k-truss,are mainly tailored for static graphs(whose edges have no temporal information).Therefore,those cohesive subgraph models cannot indicate both the temporal and the structural characteristics of *** this end,we explore the model of cohesive temporal subgraphs by incorporating both the evolving and the structural characteristics of temporal ***,the volume of time intervals in a temporal network is *** a result,the time complexity of mining temporal cohesive subgraphs is *** efficiently address the problem,we first mine the temporal density distribution of temporal *** by the distribution,we can safely prune many unqualified time intervals with the linear time ***,the remaining time intervals where cohesive temporal subgraphs fall in are examined using the greedy *** results of the experiments on nine real-world temporal graphs indicate that our model outperforms state-of-the-art solutions in efficiency and ***,our model only takes less than two minutes on a million-vertex DBLP and has the highest overall average ranking in EDB and TC metrics.

An efficient quantum blind digital signature scheme

Recently, many quantum digital signature(QDS) schemes have been proposed to authenticate the integration of a message. However, these quantum signature schemes just consider the situation for bit messages,and the signing-verifying of one-bit modality. So, their signature efficiency is very low. In this paper, we propose a scheme based on an application of Fibonacci-, Lucas-and Fibonacci-Lucas matrix coding to quantum digital signatures based on a recently proposed quantum key distribution(QKD) system. Our scheme can sign a large number of digital messages every time. Moreover, these special matrices provide a method to verify the integration of information received by the participants, to authenticate the identity of the participants, and to improve the efficiency for signing-verifying. Therefore, our signature scheme is more practical than the existing schemes.

Traditionally, complex engineering applications （CEAs）, which consist of numerous components （software） and require a large amount of computing resources, usu- ally run in dedicated clusters or high performance computing （HPC） centers. Nowadays, Cloud computing system with the ability of providing massive computing resources and cus- tomizable execution environment is becoming an attractive option for CEAs. As a new type on Cloud applications, CEA also brings the challenges of dealing with Cloud resources. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey of Cloud resource management research for CEAs. The survey puts forward two important questions： 1） what are the main chal- lenges for CEAs to run in Clouds？ and 2） what are the prior research topics addressing these challenges？ We summarize and highlight the main challenges and prior research topics. Our work can be probably helpful to those scientists and en- gineers who are interested in running CEAs in Cloud envi- ronment.
