The content and structure of linked information such as sets of web pages or research paper archives are dynamic and keep on changing. Even though different methods are proposed to exploit both the link structure and the content information, no existing approach can effectively deal with this evolution. We propose a novel joint model, called Link-IPLSI, to combine texts and links in a topic modeling framework incrementally. The model takes advantage of a novel link updating technique that can cope with dynamic changes of online document streams in a faster and scalable way. Furthermore, an adaptive asymmetric learning method is adopted to freely control the assignment of weights to terms and citations. Experimental results on two different sources of online information demonstrate the time saving strength of our method and indicate that our model leads to systematic improvements in the quality of classification and link prediction. © 2010 IEEE.

Text clustering is an important technology for automatically structuring large document collections. It is much more valuable in peer-to-peer networks. T he high dimensionality of documents means much more communication could be saved if each node could get the approximate clustering result by distributed algorithm instead of transferring them into a center and do the clustering. Most of the existing text clustering algorithms in unstructured peer-to-peer networks are based on K-means algorithm. A problem of those algorithms is that the clustering quality may decreased with the increase of the network size. In this paper, we propose a text clustering algorithm based on frequent term sets for peer-to-peer networks. It requires relatively lower communication volume while achieving a clustering result whose quality will not be affected by the size of the network. Moreover, it gives a term set describing each cluster, which makes it possible for people to have a clear comprehension for the clustering result, and facilitates the users to find resource in the network or manage the local documents in accordance with the whole network. © 2010 IEEE.

Hyper surface classification (HSC) based on Jordan Curve Theorem is proven to be a simple and effective method to classify large datasets. Like most of classification algorithms, noise could also impact its accuracy even if the HSC algorithm limits the influence of noise in a local small region. In this paper, we propose a method that intuitively captures the primary goal of improving the accuracy of HSC when trained on noisy training datasets. The proposed method uses a separate pruning set to test whether the hyper surfaces covering few samples are assigned wrong labels due to the existence of noise. And then reassigns them appropriate labels if necessary. We compare the performance of HSC with and without the noise handling method. The promising experimental results indicate that the noise handling method can improve the accuracy of HSC when trained on noisy datasets, while keeping good performance when it is applied to datasets without noise. At the same time, it also reduces the model complexity of HSC to some extent. ©2010 IEEE.

The demand for statistical machine translation on mobile terminals is increasing rapidly, but translation speed is restricted by the embedded processors without a floating-point unit. This paper proposes an approach to convert floating-point numbers into fixed-point numbers for SMT decoding on mobile terminals in order to reduce the impact of the processors without a floating-point unit on translation speed. The experiments based on PC and mobile terminal show that this approach ensures the quality of translation and the speed of fixed-point arithmetic operations is 135.6% faster than that of floating-point arithmetic operations. Therefore, this approach can efficiently improve translation speed of SMT systems on mobile terminals with weak ability in floating-point arithmetic operations. ©2010 IEEE.

An identity-based threshold key management scheme without secure channel is proposed for ad hoc network. The master private key, which is shared among all nodes by the Shamir's secret sharing scheme, is produced by all nodes when network is formed. The nodes'public keys are derived from their identities. In order to get the private key, each node needs to prove their identity to distributed CAs using a zero-knowledge proof protocol to get the share of private key. Compared with former schemes, our scheme doesn't need any local registration authority(LRA), which is easy to be compromised by adversary. When a node leaves the network, shares of the master private key would be renewed. In the end, we prove our scheme is correct and secure. © 2010 IEEE.

Lexicalized reordering models play a crucial role in phrase-based translation systems. They are usually learned from the word-aligned bilingual corpus by examining the reordering relations of adjacent phrases. Instead of just checking whether there is one phrase adjacent to a given phrase, we argue that it is important to take the number of adjacent phrases into account for better estimations of reordering models. We propose to use a structure named reordering graph, which represents all phrase segmentations of a sentence pair, to learn lexicalized reordering models efficiently. Experimental results on the NIST Chinese-English test sets show that our approach significantly outperforms the baseline method. © 2010 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Attribute reduction is a basic issue in rough set theory. But related researches on reduction in inconsistent incomplete decision system (IIDS) are currently rarely reported. In this paper, the concept of assignment reduct is extended from inconsistent complete decision system (ICDS) to IIDS and then the property of assignment-core attribute is analysed, and finally a method to calculate assignment reduct is put forward by using the heritable trait of assignment reduct. Example analysis shows that the proposed method is effective. This work provides an effective solution for attribute reduction in IIDS. © 2010 IEEE.

The enlarging volumes of data resources produced in real world makes classification of very large scale data a challenging task. Therefore, parallel process of very large high dimensional data is very important. Hyper-Surface Classification (HSC) is approved to be an effective and efficient classification algorithm to handle two and three dimensional data. Though HSC can be extended to deal with high dimensional data with dimension reduction or ensemble techniques, it is not trivial to tackle high dimensional data directly. Inspired by the decision tree idea, an improvement of HSC is proposed to deal with high dimensional data directly in this work. Furthermore, we parallelize the improved HSC algorithm (PHSC) to handle large scale high dimensional data based on MapReduce framework, which is a current and powerful parallel programming technique used in many fields. Experimental results show that the parallel improved HSC algorithm not only can directly deal with high dimensional data, but also can handle large scale data set. Furthermore, the evaluation criterions of scaleup, speedup and sizeup validate its efficiency. © 2010 IEEE.

People with visual disabilities have difficulties in inputting Chinese into computer via conventional methods. Although some specialized devices and software can help Chinese blind users input Mandarin Braille into computers, translation of Mandarin Braille into Chinese is still a problem. In this paper, a new approach for translation of prevailing Mandarin Braille to Chinese character is proposed. By using characteristics of prevailing Mandarin Braille such as word segmentation-concatenation rule and tone information in the N-gram decoding process, the translating approach is able to achieve higher performance than current methods. Furthermore, under a paragraph and article translation scheme, language model adaptation is adopted by using combination of N-gram language model and cache-based language mode to improve translation performance. Experimental results show that the overall precision for the translation is 94.3%. If proper nouns are not considered, the precision can reach 95.1%. ©2010 IEEE.

Curve extraction is an important and basic technique in image processing and computer vision. Due to the complexity of the images and the limitation of segmentation algorithms, there are always a large number of noisy pixels in the segmented binary images. In this paper, we present an approach based on ant colony system (ACS) to detect nonparametric curves from a binary image containing discontinuous curves and noisy points. Compared with the well-known Hough transform (HT) method, the ACS-based curve extraction approach can deal with both regular and irregular curves without knowing their shapes in advance. The proposed approach has many characteristics such as faster convergence, implicit parallelism and strong ability to deal with highly-noised images. Moreover, our approach can extract multiple curves from an image, which is impossible for the previous genetic algorithm based approach.
