The motivation for writing this paper is to present the method for qualitative evaluation of full body movements with Gesture Description Language. By qualitative evaluation we understand the possibility of evaluating the similarity between the template of movement defined in GDL script (GDLs) and physical activity performed by observed user. The establishing of this methodology allows us to perform real time evaluation of movements accuracy defined as similarity to the statistically computed templates. The presented methodology can be used not only to perform advanced numerical analysis of movements but also to support multimedia visual feedback to various movements activities in computer applications. The initial evaluation presented in this paper proved that proposed method of qualitative analysis of movements has a potential to be used in practice.

Our motivation for writing this paper was to present application of Gesture Description Language (GDL) methodology in the role of natural user interface (NUI) for immersive virtual reality (VR) environment. In order to do so we have adapted an existing so called voxel-engine framework by adding essential components. In order to apply NUI in VR environment we have implemented two types of interactions with the system: mouse - like two-dimensional point and click interface and movements commands that are used to travel through VR. The validation of our method was performed on group of twelve students of both sexes. Our experiment might be easily repeated by using our software modules.

Many applications in the fields of Service Robotics and Industrial Human-Robot Collaboration, require interaction with a human in a potentially unstructured environment. In many cases, a natural language interface can be helpful, but it requires powerful means of knowledge representation and processing, e.g., using ontologies and reasoning. In this paper we present a framework for the automatic generation of natural language grammars from ontological descriptions of robot tasks and interaction objects, and their use in a natural language interface. Robots can use it locally or even share this interface component through the RoboEarth framework in order to benefit from features such as referent grounding, ambiguity resolution, task identification, and task assignment.

Event calculus based checking of filtering policies

The paper considers the approach to filtering policy verification. We model potential network traffic with Event Calculus and use abductive proof procedure to detect firewall filtering anomalies in dynamical way. Generally, our approach allows separating network behavior description from security inconsistency definition and thus building flexible and scalable framework for filtering policy verification. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

One of topical tasks of policy-based security management is checking that the security policy stated in organization corresponds to its implementation in the computer network. The paper considers the suggested approach to proactive monitoring of security policy performance and security mechanisms functioning. This approach is based on the different strategies of automatic imitation of possible users' actions in the computer network, including exhaustive search, express-analysis and generating the optimized test sequences. It is applicable to different security policies (authentication, authorization, filtering, communication channel protection, etc.). The paper describes stages, generalized algorithms and main peculiarities of the suggested approach and formal methods used to fulfill the test sequence optimization. We consider the generalized architecture of the proactive monitoring system "Proactive security scanner" (PSC) developed, its implementation and an example of policy testing. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

The main contribution of this paper is a new sliding mode design methodology for nonlinear systems, which utilizes the Parallel Distributed Compensation based multi-objective LMI control design for Takagi-Sugeno type polytopic representations of qLPV models. It is partially extension and combination of the classical optimal manifold design for linear (or linearized) system and sector sliding mode control. This new approach enables a systematic design and decomposition of optimal sliding sector by the High Order Singular Value Decomposition based canonical description of a wide class of nonlinear systems. This brings the advantages of the LMI based control design to the field of sliding mode control. The effectiveness of the methodology is validated by simulation results. © 2012 IEEE.

In a series of paper the authors proposed a new frequency-domain approach to identify poles in discrete-time linear systems. The discrete rational transfer function is represented in a rational Laguerre-basis, where the basis elements are expressed by powers of the Blaschke-function. This function can be interpreted as a congruence transform on the Poincaré unit disc model of the hyperbolic geometry. The identification of a pole is given as a hyperbolic transform of the limit of a quotient-sequence formed from the Laguerre-Fourier coefficients. In this paper the opportunities of reliably computing the poles are analyzed, and some algorithms are proposed for practical use.

In this paper we describe our approach to the ImageCLEF2012 Photo Annotation task. We used both visual and textual modalities for all submissions. We described each image with a fixed length representation using different similarity measures. By this method we were able to combine, before the classification, a large variety of descriptors to improve the classification quality. This descriptor is a combination of several visual and textual similarity values between the actual image and a reference image set, containing well selected training images. We trained Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) to define a generative model for low-level descriptors extracted from the training set using Harris-Laplacian point detection. We used two descriptors, a grayscale gradient and a color moment based one. In order to measure the visual similarity between two images, we extracted several dense Fisher vectors per image. Besides calculating visual features, we adopted a biclustering method to cluster the Flickr tags and the images at the same time. Additionally, we measured the similarity of images according to their Flickr tags using Jensen-Shannon divergence.
