Nowadays mixing one language with another language either in spoken or written communication has become a common practice for bilingual speakers in daily conversation as well as in social media. Lexicon based approach is one of the approaches in extracting the sentiment analysis. This study is aimed to compare two lexicon models which are SentiNetWord and VADER in extracting the polarity of the code-mixed sentences in Indonesian language and Javanese language. 3,963 tweets were gathered from two accounts that provide code-mixed tweets. Pre-processing such as removing duplicates, translating to English, filter special characters, transform lower case and filter stop words were conducted on the tweets. Positive and negative word score from lexicon model was then calculated using simple mathematic formula in order to classify the polarity. By comparing with the manual labelling, the result showed that SentiNetWord perform better than VADER in negative sentiments. However, both of the lexicon model did not perform well in neutral and positive sentiments. On overall performance, VADER showed better performance than SentiNetWord. This study showed that the reason for the misclassified was that most of Indonesian language and Javanese language consist of words that were considered as positive in both Lexicon model. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

With increasing personalized healthcare,fiber-based wearable temperature sensors that can be incorporated into textiles have attracted more attention in the field of wearable ***,we present a flexible,well-passivated,polymer–nanocomposite–based fiber temperature sensor fabricated by a thermal drawing process of multiple *** engineered a preform to optimize material processability and sensor performance by considering the rheological and functional properties of the preform *** fiber temperature sensor consisted of a temperature-sensing core made from a conductive polymer composite of thermoplastic polylactic acid,a conductive carbon filler,reduced graphene oxide,and a highly flexible linear low-density polyethylene passivation *** fiber temperature sensor exhibited adequate sensitivity(−0.285%/℃)within a temperature range of 25–45℃with rapid response and recovery times of 11.6 and 14.8 s,*** addition,it demonstrated a consistent and reliable temperature response under repeated mechanical and chemical stresses,which satisfied the requirements for the long-term application of wearable fiber ***,the fiber temperature sensor sewn onto a daily cloth and hand glove exhibited a highly stable performance in response to body temperature changes and temperature detection by *** results indicate the great potential of this sensor for applications in wearable,electronic skin,and other biomedical devices.

Common critiques of natural language processing (NLP) methods cite their lack of multimodal sensory information, claiming an inability to learn situated, action-oriented relations through language alone. Barsalou's (1983) theory of ad hoc categories, which are formed from to achieve goals in real-world scenarios, correspond theoretically to those types of relations with which language models ought to have great difficulty. Recent NLP models have developed dynamic approaches to word representations, where the same word can have different encodings depending on the context in which it appears. Testing these models using categorization tasks with human response data demonstrates that situated properties may be partially captured through semantic analysis. We discuss possible ways in which different notions of situatedness may be distinguished for future development and testing of NLP models. © 2022 The Author(s). Mathematical competency is vital to success in engineering. Competency requires not only short-term mastery of mathematical concepts, but also long-term retention. Research in cognitive psychology shows that the more times information is retrieved from memory, the more likely it is to be remembered over the long-term. Research also shows that increasing the amount of time between retrievals increases long-term retention. Which of these interventions-increasing the amount or the temporal spacing of retrieval practice-has the greater impact on long-term retention? Supported by NSF's Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) program, we answered this question by independently manipulating the amount and the spacing of retrieval practice in a precalculus course for engineering students. This was done by varying the number of quiz questions concerning key precalculus objectives (amount of practice) and varying whether those questions were massed on a single quiz or distributed across quizzes in multiple weeks (spacing of practice). Long-term retention was assessed in a test of precalculus knowledge administered one month after the end of the precalculus course. We found that students were significantly more likely to retain precalculus objectives when quiz questions had been spaced versus massed. Increasing the number of quiz questions did not significantly affect retention. These findings suggest that educators wishing to increase students' long-term retention of mathematics knowledge should increase the spacing, rather than the amount, of retrieval practice in their courses. © American Society for engineering Education, 2018.

Design rationale captures the justification behind a design decision. Often, rationales vary in the content and depth of information, making the study and comparison of rationales challenging. This project aims to characterize design rationale and develop a computational approach to evaluate design rationale quality at scale. In total, 2250 rationales were machine-generated using GPT across two different representations, and a portion of the rationales (n = 512) were evaluated by two raters across five dimensions of quality. Rationales were then characterized using natural language processing techniques, resulting in 108 linguistic features for each rationale. The evaluations and linguistic features were used to build eight predictive models for each quality dimension. The main results show that structured rationales were rated higher than unstructured rationales across the five dimensions. Thus, the tested feature, specification, and evidence (FSE) framework was shown to be a worthwhile approach to represent the justification behind a design decision. Moreover, key linguistic features that correlate with higher quality ratings were identified. Future work will explore how design rationale quality and characteristics impact design decisions, particularly in a human-AI teaming context where generative design recommendations could benefit from including generative design rationales. Neuroscience has made impressive advances, but there is a lack of an overall computational brain theory. I would like to present a simplified computational theory in an intuitive language about how the brain wires itself as a multi-interchange bridge that bi-directionally connects many islands where each island is a sensor or effector. The wiring process of the brain is highly self-supervised while a baby lives and acts in his physical environment, e.g., sucking a milk bottle. I use a new precise framework of emergent finite automata to explain how the brain develops its numeric circuits that can be clearly understood in terms of logic. I also explain how the self-wired basic circuits become motivated through four additional neural transmitters beyond glutamate and GABA - serotonin, dopamine, acetylcholine, and norepinephrine. I use finite automata for precise and rigorous analysis and optimality.

Are gender associations in general language reflected in the words spoken to and by children? Previous work has suggested that language reveals gender differences in discourse, speech style, language use and acquisition. Work in artificial intelligence has shown that word embeddings trained on large corpora reflect human gender associations. We connect this work to developmental psychology by exploring whether gender associations in word embeddings are present in the linguistic input and output of children, and if so, how early gendered language emerges. We present a computational method that quantifies the gender associations of words and use a corpus of child-caretaker speech to show that these gender associations correlate significantly with those in word embeddings. We discover that gendered word use emerges in English-speaking children around age 2, and the gender associations cannot be explained solely by variables including word length, frequency, concreteness, and valence. © 2020 The Author(s)

When optimizing the spatial data, a lot of constraints should be handled. Some constraints might be too wide for a metaheuristic algorithm, e.g. particle swarm optimization, to allocate the candidate locations outside a wide constraint. However, particle swarm optimization notably has fast computation characteristic and many researchers used this method for optimizing their spatial data. In the other hand, genetic algorithm has not only better exploitation-characteristic performance in searching but also has mutation and crossover that was proven in this study can be overcome the wide constraint problem. To minimize the drawback of genetic algorithm, i.e. need many computation resources, the hybrid particle swarm optimization with genetic algorithm through the use of crossover and mutation was used. Half of lower fitness values from particle swarm optimization were optimized using crossover and mutation in genetic algorithm. After merging the results of both methods, the optimum location showed that the proposed method was able to allocate the land use in a case study area outside the wide constraint. © 2019 IEEE.

Bilinear models provide rich representations compared with linear models. They have been applied in various visual tasks, such as object recognition, segmentation, and visual question-answering, to get state-of-the-art performances taking advantage of the expanded representations. However, bilinear representations tend to be high-dimensional, limiting the applicability to computationally complex tasks. We propose low-rank bilinear pooling using Hadamard product for an efficient attention mechanism of multimodal learning. We show that our model outperforms compact bilinear pooling in visual question-answering tasks with the state-of-the-art results on the VQA dataset, having a better parsimonious property. © ICLR 2019 - Conference Track Proceedings.
