Growing a class of fractals based on combination of classical fractals and recursive mathematical series in L-systems

L-systems ([1]) can be used to generate fractals. In this paper L-systems with a standard turtle alphabet are combined with L-systems, which emulate simple number sequences. The combination of two such L-systems is achieved by concatenating their axioms as well as merging their rule sets. This can happen in several ways, depending in part on the sequence in which axioms and right-hand sides of rules are concatenated. The purpose of this paper is to combine these two applications of L-systems to generate novel fractals. A turtle interpretation is applied to the yield of the generated hybrid L-systems resulting in new fractal images.

A new parallel-based lifting algorithm (PBLA) for the 9/7 filters, exploring the parallelism of arithmetic operations in each lifting step, was proposed in this paper. It shortened significantly the critical path of computation, and resulted in a fast VLSI implementation architecture. In comparison with the conventional lifting algorithm based implementation (CLASS), the latency is reduced by more than half from (4Tm + 8T a) to (Tm + 4Ta), which is competitive to that of convolution based implementation CBI, and can be further reduced to Tm by inserting 3 stages of pipeline. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed architecture has good performances in both speed and area.

The rapid growth of acquisition, application and dissemination of knowledge facilitated by electronic means lays an urge for concrete e-learning model. The increasing demand for seamless accessibility, reusability, aggregation and effective execution of learning activities explored a numerous research issues. This paper proposes a mashup with integration mechanism for e-learning. To realize integration, the authors propose a semi-dynamic e-learning service composition which uses predefined functional and flow descriptions. The mashup broker integrates the functionalities of multiple, dynamically discovered e-learning services into a single service based on the learner's requirements. The execution order of composed activities is determined from e-learning activity flow descriptions. The requested learning activities are delivered to the learner in computed sequence as a single learning service. The proof of concept experimentation shows that, the broker architecture for e-learning facilitates effective access and aggregation e-learning services/resources.

Component-based software development technique and its intensive use in the industry has led to the wide research in various aspects of component-based systems (CBSs). Its relating quality assurance techniques had become the key research content. This paper summarizes eight types of dependency between two components in the CBSs. And it discusses about a dependency-based representation called the component dependency graph (CDG) and the component direct dependency graph (CDDG), and then gives the definition of dependency relationship matrix of the component Cm (CmDM) and detailed dependency relationship matrix of the component Cm(CmDDM). Based on these, we further present two approaches to find dependencies relationships between two components: code-based approach and specification-based approach. Finally, we apply an application example implementing integration testing when a component named RegisterGrade is integrated into a CBS, and present a table with test coverage figure to illustrate the validity of our approach

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Patients with open-angle glaucoma have difficulty realizing the graduate vision loss. However, the optic nerve head's morphological change can manifest in the retinal image. Therefore, many studies offer computer-aided glaucoma diagnosis based on retinal image analysis. With the trend of deep learning, there have been several attempts to utilise deep-learning-based glaucoma classification in practice. However, the limited size of the dataset is a problem when adapting deep-learning models to glaucoma classification. Therefore, we test three vision transformer models to handle this problem and demonstrate their performance in glaucoma classification. Also, based on their performance, we give suggestions for their usage in clinical practice. In this paper, we fine-tuned three transformer models for glaucoma classification using two datasets, RIM-ONE_DL and Drishti-GS. Based on our experiments, the pyramid vision transformer (PVT) model achieves the best performance, with good scores in terms of accuracy and sensitivity. This suggests that the PVT can catch the missing detail and can be used to support the glaucoma diagnosis.

A novel scheme for the embedding XML file in a 24-bit BMP color image using steganographic technique is presented in this paper. The lab color space is used instead of the RGB color space which is found to be more suitable for watermarking application. The XML file that is to be embedded is encrypted by providing a password and decrypted during watermark detection phase. The watermark detection process is fast and the embedded XML file is extracted from the watermarked color image which neither requires the original image nor the embedded XML file. Using this application user can easily watermark the image and hide the XML file in to the image. The usage of lab technique has the advantage that the watermarked image file is imperceptible to human eye.

The current sparse representation framework is to decouple it as two subproblems, i.e., alternate sparse coding and dictionary learning using different optimizers, treating elements in bases and codes separately. In this paper, we treat elements both in bases and codes homogenously. The original optimization is directly decoupled as several blockwise alternate subproblems rather than above two. Hence, sparse coding and bases learning optimizations are coupled together. And the variables involved in the optimization problems are partitioned into several suitable blocks with convexity preserved, making it possible to perform an exact block coordinate descent. For each separable subproblem, based on the convexity and monotonic property of the parabolic function, a closed-form solution is obtained. Thus the algorithm is simple, efficient and effective. Experimental results show that our algorithm significantly accelerates the learning process.

Steganography is the art of concealing the existence of information within seemingly harmless carriers. It is a method similar to covert channels, spread spectrum communication and invisible inks which adds another step in security. A message in cipher text may arouse suspicion while an invisible message will not. A digital image is a flexible medium used to carry a secret message because the slight modification of a cover image is hard to distinguish by human eyes. In this paper, we propose a revised version of information hiding scheme using Sudoku puzzle. The original work was proposed by Chang et al. in 2008, and their work was inspired by Zhang and Wang's method and Sudoku solutions. Chang et al. successfully used Sudoku solutions to guide cover pixels to modify pixel values so that secret messages can be embedded. Our proposed method is a modification of Chang et al's method. Here a 27 times 27 reference matrix is used instead of 256 times 256 reference matrix as proposed in the previous method. The earlier version is for a grayscale image but the proposed method is for a colored image.

This paper describes a reverse transformation procedure for characterizing the solution of several optimal control problems usually addressed by parametric programming; the method is used to obtain characterizations of the solutions to the problems of optimal control of piecewise affine discrete-time systems with a quadratic (the generally preferred option) or piecewise affine cost function (which includes /sub /spl infin// and /sub 1/ cost functions).

Program Transformation and Parallelization, with an intent of improving, the running time of the program, usually involves major restructuring, of the unoptimized or serial version of a given program. Evaluating the effectiveness of the transformations, and performing post-mortem checks, on the resulting program, is almost an impossible task, with out an environment, to correlate the source program, with the target program, and the various intermediate representations. For instance, our parallelizing compiler, uses several Intermediate Representations (IR), such as Three-Address instructions and several Graph based representations. To get a complete understanding, of the transformations carried out, it is necessary to visually and interactively tie, the various representations of the given program. Traditionally, Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), that combine the functionality of several toolkits, in a Graphical User Interface (GUI) framework, are provided in the Software Development Domain, to assist and improve programmer efficiency. We can adapt and apply these ideas, in the Program Transformation and Parallelization setting, to likewise aid the programmer. IDE in such an environment can help the user or programmer to Plan, Visualize, Execute, Analyze and Post-Process Program Transformation and Parallelization Tasks. However majority of the existing Program Transformation and Parallelization infrastructures, lack good visualization support or provide an incomplete environment. AIDE our solution to the visualization problem, is envisioned to fill this void by providing an IDE that is complete, convenient, efficient and productive.
