An Improvement of Russo's Fuzzy Noise-Filtering for Image Processing

We adapted Russo's image noise filtering technique by introducing an adaptive parameter, noise possibility. This parameter potentially indicates whether a pixel is noise. The improved Russo's method was applied to process the Lena image and a remote sensing image corrupted by noise. The results show that it has a stronger noise filtering ability than other traditional techniques such as Wiener filtering.

Spatial data balancing distribution can evidently improve the performance of parallel spatial database in shared nothing parallel architecture. Considering spatial locality and unstructured variable length characteristics of spatial data, this paper proposes a dynamic spatial data balancing distribution method under shared nothing parallel database environment. By using Hilbert ordering code to keep spatial locality relationship between spatial objects, the presented method can fulfill spatial data static balancing distribution status, which depends on hierarchically decomposing Hilbert space-filling curve code to allocate approximately even spatial data volume to parallel nodes in distributed network. Then spatial proximity index is introduced to resolve spatial data unbalancing problem caused by spatial database dynamic updating. Through moving spatial data fragments to goal node which is the minimum spatial proximity with data moving out node, the spatial database redistributing strategy can attain dynamic data balance among all network parallel nodes. Our experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively improve parallel performance deterioration resulted from spatial data unbalancing and achieve spatial data dynamic balancing distribution in parallel spatial database.

Collaborative filtering is the most successful and widely used recommendation algorithm in E-commerce recommender systems currently. However, it faces severe challenge of cold-start problem. To solve the new item problem in cold-start, a cold-start recommendation method based on dynamic browsing tree model is proposed. Firstly, user browsing records are transformed to dynamic browsing tree (DBT) based on product categories of E-commerce Web site. Secondly, a fresh degree decay operator based on access time is designed, then an item category similarity between leaves of DBT and new item is proposed. Finally, an interest matching degree (IMD) measure is designed to compute the matching degree between new item and dynamic browsing trees of all users, thus those users who have higher IMD than designated threshold will be chosen as target audience for new item. The experimental results show that the proposed method can efficiently realize new item recommendation for collaborative filtering cold-start.

Nowadays many E-commerce corporations need to implement effective content management for controlling the data resources of their Websites. In this paper, a role-authorized and MVC-based content management method is proposed. Firstly, the presentation mechanism of content management is designed based on MVC model. Secondly, the system users is separated into three types, including system administrator, content manager and visitor, then a role-authorized model is designed. The proposed method can bring good performance to the content management of E-commerce corporations.

With the rapid development of the gazetteers, more and more geographical names databases has been established. Since the geographical names exit in form of records which provide little qualitative description other than quantitative information, geographical names are hardly shared and interoperable. In order to solve this problem, we urgently need to set up knowledge base for geographical names that shall provide qualitative knowledge to describe the essence of the elements. So, we use ontology and production rules to build geographical name knowledge base, where the geographical names ontology is regarded as the foundation for reuse and sharing of the geographical names information, and production rules are used to enhance the expressivity of the ontology. First of all, we analyzed the geographical names concepts and their semantics, the concepts of space and time and their relationships in geographical names to describe the knowledge structure for this field, used Web Ontology Language (OWL) to provide formal descriptions to give them explicit semantics, and proposed a unified semantic framework for description. Secondly, we established the common-sense rules and spatial relations inference rules coded with Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL) which laid the foundation for geographical names knowledge discovery and automatic reasoning. Finally, we established a geographical name knowledge base combining both the geographical names ontology and rules established above. Through the analysis of examples we showed that based on the geographical names knowledge base the geographical names information can be well shared and reused. © 2009 SPIE.

In this paper, we started from the point of digital preservation and development of large-scale cultural heritage by combining the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, the traditional single-point measurement with high speed, high-precision three-dimensional (3D) laser scanning technology. GPS and the traditional single-point measurement are used to establish control network to local landscape model into a union space coordinate system in order to study the distribution and evolution of its situation; while 3D laser scanning technology is used to get the accurate geometric description of the cultural heritage. By using post-processing software the point clouds data can be handled to establish the 3D visual model and two-dimensional line draw model which lay the foundation for heritage preservation and future research. The digital preservation of the 'Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall was presented as a case study in this paper to verify the advantages of digitization by 3D laser scanning.

Modification of the surface properties of polyethylene （PE） films is studied using air dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure. The treated samples are examined by Water contact angle measurements, Fourier transform infrared attenuated total reflection spectroscopy （FTIR-ATR）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. With the increase in treating time, the water contact angle changes from 93.2° before treatment to a minimum of 53.3° after a treatment for 50 s. Both ATR and XPS results show some oxidized species are introduced into the sample surface by the plasma treatment and the tendency of the water contact angle with the treating time is the same as that of oxygen concentration on the treated sample surface. SEM result shows the surface roughness of PE samples increases with the treatment time increasing.

Aiming at the prediction precision and applicability problem for the traditional software reliability prediction models, from the point of nonlinear time sequence, this paper presented a novel software reliability prediction model using RBF neural network based on empirical mode decomposition theory. In the paper, the fault data series obtained from software reliability test phase is decomposed into a series of intrinsic mode functions and a residue signal. Then a RBF network is constructed for an intrinsic mode function or the residual signal. Finally output of every prediction model is integrated into one output with equal weighted. Experimental results showed that the proposed model had higher precision of prediction and better applicability, compared with traditional software reliability models. © 2008 IEEE.

Feature extraction is the key process in any pattern recognition issues. There is no exception in analog circuit fault diagnosis, because fault diagnosis is equivalent to pattern recognition issue in nature. In this paper, several feature extraction approaches in the field of analog circuits fault diagnosis are summed up. Newly appeared entropy-based, kernel-function-based, fractal-theorybased, rough-set-based feature extractions approaches are described besides the widely used wavelet analysis approach. The advantages and disadvantages of these approaches are discussed also. Potential solutions and developing trends of these feature extraction approaches are indicated. © 2008 IEEE.

Parallelism of spatial index could significantly improve the performance of spatial queries, special for massive spatial databases, so the research of parallel spatial index takes a important role in high performance spatial databases. Existing parallel spatial index methods have two main shortcoming: one is accessing hotspot and bottleneck of index items located in main server, the other is high costs and complicated operations for maintaining index consistency. Aim at these, a distributed parallel spatial index structure called DPR-tree is proposed. It splits whole index region into partition sub-regions by using Hilbert space-filling curve grid and organizes index sub-regions according to locality of spatial objects, then maps index sub-regions to partition sub-regions and assigns these index sub-regions to different computer nodes by a appointed map function, Each computer node manages a multi-level distributed sub-Rtree which is built from a index sub-region. Our experimental results indicate that the proposed parallel spatial index can achieve speedup well and offer significant potential for reducing query response time. © 2008 SPIE.
