To optimize the overall quality of control (QoC) of networked control systems (NCSs), it is necessary to adopt the codesign from the control, computing, and communication perspectives. By analyzing related problems and method formulation, an implementation architecture for the codesign is proposed, which could flexibly allocate system resources under the constraints of communication bandwidth, CPU resource, and jitter range. The key to realizing codesign is an analysis model of NCSs that includes various factors such as control algorithm, CPU scheduling, and network resource. The optimized implementation scheme for codesign is estimated by comparing QoCs. Finally, the experiment with a CAN-based computer numerical control (CNC) system is conducted, and the results show that the scheduler adjusts system resource according to temporal time attributes, improving the QoC of CNC. The presented model-based approach to codesign is effective, and is helpful in using system resources and further enhancing overall QoC.

Wang et al. [6] proposed a scheme of allowing granter nodes to allocate multiple mini-slots to improve the data scheduling efficiency of the three-way handshake procedure, however, the size of the availability mini-slots is no considered. In fact, the available mini-slot space may not be contiguous but can include many windows of several slots in the actual data scheduling. To address this problem, we propose a novel data scheduling scheme, which is based on our proposed optimal model of mini-slots allocation, to reduce the number of mini-slot segments and to keep continuous mini-slots as long as possible. Simulation results show that our proposed scheduling schemes can achieve low transmission delay of data packets and high utilization ratio of mini-slots of all network nodes.

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) integrate the virtual cyber world with the real physical world. Nowadays, the theories and applications of CPSs still face enormous challenges. In order to facilitate this emerging domain, a general test platform for CPSs, low-priced intelligent vehicle with Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) navigation, is designed to test and verify the proposed methods and theories. We in brief review the research progresses of CPSs, WSNs and unmanned vehicles. By means of deeply analyzing the test platform architecture and WSN navigation principle, the software and hardware of this platform are developed. The experiment results show that the resolution of wireless sensor navigation is less than 0.67m. On the basis of these, how to conduct studies from different perspectives is illustrated, and the implementation challenges are also outlined.

In order to make the most of system resource and improve system performance in Ethernet-based computer numerical control (CNC) system, it is very necessary to establish the performance analysis model and further adopt the codesign method from the control, communication and computing perspectives. Analyzing system architecture, time characteristic parameters of controlloop, model framework, etc. we proposed a simulation analysis model for real-time Ethernet-based CNC system. This model includes the timing effects caused by the implementation platform in the simulation. The key to establishing the model is accomplished by designing the error analysis module and the controller nodes. The proposed model is helpful for CNC system development.
