Severe intensity inhomogeneity (InH) and complex real-world textures cause great difficulties and become two important issues in image segmentation and object extraction applications. Plenty of methods are proposed to tackle these issues, however, they usually perform poorly on images possess both InH and texture. In this paper, we propose a region-based active contour model for segmenting images with simultaneous inhomogeneity and texture. A new bias field possesses both global and local smoothness properties is proposed to handle the InH issue, and a pixel inhomogeneity factor (PIF) is employed to jointly deal with InH and textured images. We also employ the total variation (TV) regularization to further smooth and denoise the transformed PIF image, making the segmentation process to have the nice properties of global convergence and independence of contour initialization. A large number of numerical experiments and comparisons are conducted to demonstrate the effective performance of the newly proposed method. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Earlier, many PPDM algorithms have been proposed to conceal sensitive items in a database in order to disclose sensitive itemsets. All prior techniques, however, ignored a crucial problem in setting minimum support thresholds. Thus, a new concept of minimal support for solving this issue is proposed in this paper. In compliance with a given threshold function, the proposed approach would set a tighter threshold for an object containing several items. Experimental results are then evaluated to show the performance of the traditional Greedy PPDM approach, GA-based PPDM approaches, and the proposed PSO-based algorithm with the new flexible and minimal support function. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

We consider the cycle packing problems motivated by kidney exchange. In kidney exchange, patients with willing but incompatible donors enter into an organized market and trade donors in cyclic structures. Exchange programs attempt to match patients and donors utilizing the quality of matches. Current methods use a point estimate for the utility of a potential match that is drawn from an unknown distribution over possible true qualities. We apply the conditional value-at-risk paradigm to the size-constrained cycle and chain packing problem. We derive sample average approximation and distributionally-robust-optimization approaches to maximize the true quality of matched organs in the face of uncertainty over the quality of potential matches. We test our approach on the realistic kidney exchange data and show they outperform the state-of-the-art approaches. In the experiments, we use randomly generated exchange graphs resembling the structure of real exchanges, using anonymized data from the United Network for Organ Sharing. © 2021 IEEE.

Heterogeneous catalysis at the metal surface generally involves the transport of molecules through the interfacial water layer to access the surface,which is a rate-determining step at the *** this study,taking the oxygen reduction reaction on a metal electrode in aqueous solution as an example,using accurate molecular dynamic simulations,we propose a novel long-range regulation strategy in which midinfrared stimulation(MIRS)with a frequency of approximately 1,000 cm^(-1)is applied to nonthermally induce the structural transition of interfacial water from an ordered to disordered state,facilitating the access of oxygen molecules to metal surfaces at room temperature and increasing the oxygen reduction activity ***,the theoretical prediction is confirmed by the experimental observation of a significant discharge voltage increase in zinc-air batteries under *** MIRS approach can be seamlessly integrated into existing strategies,offering a new approach for accelerating heterogeneous reactions and gas sensing within the interfacial water system.

The ability to deliver results promptly has become crucial for analytical frameworks due to the swift increase in data volumes. Complex algorithms are needed to schedule data processing activities on distributed compute clusters efficiently. Because it is impractical to create and fine-tune a scheduling policy for every task, current systems rely on basic, generic heuristics and neglect workload peculiarities. Effective task scheduling is essential for optimising the performance of fog computing systems. Fog nodes are dynamic, heterogeneous, and resource-constrained, and traditional task scheduling techniques, which were largely created for centralised cloud settings, frequently cannot accommodate these characteristics. We provide a cutting-edge machine learning (ML) based solution that adjusts job assignment to the evolving needs of the Fog environment in order to get beyond these restrictions. Fuzzy logic, a reliable unsupervised learning method, is used with the K-Means clustering algorithm in our method to effectively group. We have used Python to model and assess our suggested method. The simulation findings validate the effectiveness of our scheduling method, demonstrating notable improvements in response time, reduced network usage, and execution time reduction in comparison to other ML and non-ML based scheduling techniques available in the Python framework.

Medical image assessment plays a vital role in hospitals during the disease assessment and decision making. Proposed work aims to develop an image processing procedure to appraise the brain tumor fragment from Flair modality recorded MRI slice. The proposed technique employs joint thresholding and segmentation practice to extract the infected part from the chosen image. Initially, a tri-level thresholding based on Mayfly Algorithm and Kapur’s Entropy (MA + KE) is implemented to improve the tumor and then the tumor area is mined using the automated Watershed Segmentation Scheme (WSS). The merit of the employed procedure is verified on various 2D MRI planes, such as axial, coronal and sagittal and the experimental outcome confirmed that this technique helps to mine the tumor area with better accuracy. In this work, the necessary images are collected from BRATS2015 dataset and 30 patient’s information (10 slices per patient) is considered for the examination. The experimental investigation is implemented using MATLAB® and 300 images from every 2D plane are examined. The proposed technique helps to get better values of Jaccard-Index (>85%), Dice-coefficient (>91%) and Accuracy (98%) on the considered MRI slices. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The rapid expansion of EVs in recent years has caught the attention of markets, policymakers, the general public, and academia. Issues continue to arise despite the progress. The numerous complaints regarding the low battery life and long charging periods contribute to the problem of electric vehicle charging being an annoyance that discourages more people from purchasing these vehicles. The proposed procedure consists of three stages, which are preprocessing, feature extraction, and training the model. To ensure that the input data can be loaded into the developed model more effectively, preprocessing is an essential step. We begin by extracting three types of charging station features-geographic, traffic, and area-in order to address the data sparsity challenge. We used E-GraphSAGE to train the model. This cutting-edge method outperforms both AdaBoost and Random Forest in terms of average accuracy, coming in at 93.55%.

This paper studies stability conditions for neural networks with stochastic impulsive intensity and impulsive density. Firstly, the pth moment exponential stability conditions are given, where the impulsive intensities of impulsive neural networks are independent and identically distributed, and the impulsive sequence is defined by impulsive density. Then, taking a linear time-varying impulsive system as an example, it is shown that impulsive sequence defined by average impulsive interval is sometime insufficient in terms of stabilizing such linear time-varying systems. Finally, two examples are presented to verify that impulsive density method is more effective and universal than average impulsive interval method when dealing with time-varying systems.

Quantum dot Cellular Automata (QCA) are a prominent nanotechnology that is widely employed in digital circuits and systems. In comparison to complementary metal–oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, QCA is a remarkable and challenging alternative with many attractive aspects such as fast execution and low power use. To accomplish all arithmetic processes, code converters are the fundamental unit of information change. Most of the converters, out of many designed for far in QCA, did not considered temperature stability, energy dissipation which may contribute to propagate as a non-operational circuit in various temperatures. This paper proposes a novel concept for a binary-to-gray code and a BCD-to-Excess 3 code converter based on QCA. The promised structure diminishes the number of cells, area utilized to make the design cost effective. The fundamental purpose of this research is to give a temperature stable and energy efficient converter design. The operability of the introduced design is verified with the QCADesigner2.0.3 tool and the temperature stability factor and energy waste are evaluated with QCADesignerE2.0.3.
