Federated Learning (FL) Services enable customers (requesters) to outsource their FL tasks to the FL service provider, who will recruit a group of clients with appropriate datasets to complete the FL task. For a given FL task, how to select appropriate clients fairly becomes a challenging problem due to budget restrictions and client heterogeneity. In this paper, we propose a new client selection, scheduling, and rewarding scheme to ensure fairness through a three-stage process: 1) multicriteria initial client pool selection, 2) data quality-oriented perround client scheduling, and 3) performance-based rewarding. Specifically, we first define a client selection metric with multiple criteria, such as client resources, data quality, and client behaviors. Then, we formulate the initial client pool selection problem into an optimization problem that aims to maximize the overall scores of selected clients within a given budget and propose a greedy algorithm to solve it. Furthermore, we formulate the per-round client selection problem into a data quality-oriented scheduling problem that aims to improve model quality and guarantee fairness. We propose a heuristic algorithm to divide the pool into several subsets such that the federated dataset in a subset is close to an independent and identical distribution (iid) while guaranteeing each client is selected at least once in a scheduling period. In addition, we propose a performance-based payment adjustment protocol with a bonus and punishment mechanism, such that the final payment reflects the actual performance of each selected client. Our fairness analysis and experimental results show that our scheme not only can guarantee fairness but also can improve the model quality especially when data are non-iid.

Maritime wireless communications as the promising applications gradually spur people's interest. However, they are suffering from critical security issues due to the feature of open channels. This paper propose to utilize a group of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as a jammer to achieve physical layer security during the maritime wireless communications. Specifically, these UAVs form a maritime UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (UVAA), which can be allowed to transmit jamming signals to the eavesdropper. In the designed system, we formulate a maritime wireless communication multi-objective optimization problem (MWCMOP) to simultaneously achieve the maximization of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the legal vessel, minimization of the SINR of the eavesdropping vessel, and minimization of the total flying energy cost of UAVs. It is challenging to solve the formulated MWCMOP since it is complex and NP-hard. Thus, we present a novel improved evolutionary algorithm to deal with the problem. Simulation results show that the presented algorithm is superior to other peer algorithms and it is capable of searching a transmission-maximizing flight scheme.

Lattice-based Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) can effectively resist the quantum threat to blockchain's underlying cryptographic algorithms. Blockchain node decryption is one of the most commonly used cryptographic computations in blockchain systems, and polynomial multiplication, a time-consuming operation for decryption, is one of the factors limiting blockchain efficiency. This paper proposes a novel distributed computing algorithm for polynomial multiplication, applicable in blockchain decryption. By splitting polynomials into lower-degree terms and delegating tasks to distributed nodes, our approach reduces computation time. A novel verification strategy based on the Karatsuba algorithm ensures result accuracy. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed scheme improves the execution efficiency of NTT and INTT operations by approximately 47.8% and 52.4%, and reduces Kyber decryption time by up to 23.5%. © 2024 IEEE.

Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection is a crucial task for deploying deep learning models in the wild. One of the major challenges is that well-trained deep models tend to perform over-confidence on unseen test data. Recent research attempts to leverage real or synthetic outliers to mitigate the issue, which may significantly increase computational costs and be biased toward specific outlier characteristics. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective framework, Prototypical Outlier Proxy (POP), which introduces virtual OOD prototypes to reshape the decision boundaries between ID and OOD data. Specifically, we transform the learnable classifier into a fixed one and augment it with a set of prototypical weight vectors. Then, we introduce a hierarchical similarity boundary loss to impose adaptive penalties depending on the degree of misclassification. Extensive experiments across various benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of POP. Notably, POP achieves average FPR95 reductions of 7.70%, 6.30%, and 5.42% over the second-best methods on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and ImageNet-200, respectively. Moreover, compared to the recent method NPOS, which relies on outlier synthesis, POP trains 7.2 times faster and performs inference 19.5 times faster.
