Soft bionic fingers can grasp some fragile items in order to prevent damage to the objects during the grasping process. Therefore, a bionic finger driven by dielectric elastomer which has the bending feature is designed. The experiment bending characteristics of the finger are tested separately on the different variables such as the number of dielectric elastomer layers and the pre-stretched ratio. When the length and pre-stretched ratio of the finger on single-layer dielectric elastomer are 70 mm and 2.5 separately, the maximum bending angle is 6 degree under the applied voltage 820 V. When the length and pre-stretched ratio of the finger on double-layer dielectric elastomer are 68 mm and 2.5 separately, the bending angle of double-layer film is 13 degree under the applied voltage 650 V. A larger bending angle will be improved on the change of the structural variables and the function of the gripper will be realized.

Convergent adaptive control based prescribed-time synchronization of switched fuzzy competitive network systems with time-varying delays

This paper addresses the prescribed-time control problem for discontinuous fuzzy neutral-type competitive neural networks (FNTCNNs) featuring switchings and time-varying delays. Notably, FNTCNNs constitute a generalized class of singularly perturbed Filippov systems. The establishment of a prescribed-time stability lemma for time-varying delay singularly perturbed systems remains a critical yet unresolved challenge. To address this, we first develop a novel prescribed-time stability lemma for singularly perturbed Filippov systems using adjustment functions, the comparison principle, and inequality techniques. This is achieved through the application of the one-norm and the introduction of a new stability definition for such systems. Considering the switching law inherent in FNTCNNs, we achieve prescribed-time stabilization control by designing adaptive prescribed-time control strategies, employing differential inclusion theory and Filippov’s solution framework. The proposed adaptive control strategies demonstrate convergence properties, ensuring that both the control strategies and system state variables converge to zero within the same prescribed-time interval. These newly developed strategies offer significant advantages over existing approaches. Finally, we validate our principal results through numerical simulations of second-order multi-agent systems subject to discontinuous disturbances.

Anomaly detection from medical images is badly needed for automated diagnosis. For example, medical images obtainedwith several modalities such as magnetic resonance (MR) and confocal microscopy need to be classified for anomaly *** MR images may contain tumors that need to be detected with anomaly detection techniques. In MR imaging, braintumors are represented as areas composed of abnormal cells that need to be detected. In addition, confocal microscopy can be used for retinal imaging. Hence, there is a need to apply classification techniques for diagnosing diseases of the eye such as Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), which leads to exudates in different regions of the retina. The detection of exudates is necessary for the diagnosis of DR. In this paper, two models are presented for the classification of MR and retinal images. Much research has been done in this area, but it did not achieve high accuracy of classification in an acceptable time. In addition, the previous models did not consider both types of image modalities considered in this paper. An active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided multi-user downlink communication system is investigated, where non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is employed to improve spectral efficiency, and the active RIS is powered by energy harvesting (EH). The problem of joint control of the RIS’s amplification matrix and phase shift matrix is formulated to maximize the communication success ratio with considering the quality of service (QoS) requirements of users, dynamic communication state, and dynamic available energy of RIS. To tackle this non-convex problem, a cascaded deep learning algorithm namely long short-term memory-deep deterministic policy gradient (LSTM-DDPG) is designed. First, an advanced LSTM based algorithm is developed to predict users’ dynamic communication state. Then, based on the prediction results, a DDPG based algorithm is proposed to joint control the amplification matrix and phase shift matrix of the RIS. Finally, simulation results verify the accuracy of the prediction of the proposed LSTM algorithm, and demonstrate that the LSTM-DDPG algorithm has a significant advantage over other benchmark algorithms in terms of communication success ratio performance. Open quantum systems are a topic of intense theoretical research. The use of master equations to model a system's evolution subject to an interaction with an external environment is one of the most successful theoretical paradigms. General experimental tools to study different open system realizations have been limited, and so it is highly desirable to develop experimental tools which emulate diverse master equation dynamics and give a way to test open systems theories. In this paper we demonstrate a systematic method for engineering specific system-environment interactions and emulating master equations of a particular form using classical stochastic noise in a superconducting transmon qubit. We also demonstrate that non-Markovian noise can be used as a resource to extend the coherence of a quantum system and counteract the adversarial effects of Markovian environments.

An ancient and counterintuitive phenomenon known as the Mpemba effect showcases the critical role of initial conditions in relaxation processes. How to realize and utilize this effect for speeding up relaxation is an important but challenging task in purely quantum system till now. Here, we experimentally study the strong Mpemba effect in a single trapped ion system in which an exponentially accelerated relaxation in time is observed by preparing an optimal quantum initial state with no excitation of the slowest decaying mode. Also, we demonstrate that the condition of realizing such effect coincides with the Liouvillian exceptional point, featuring the coalescence of both the eigenvalues and the eigenmodes of the systems. Our work provides an efficient strategy to engineer the dynamics of open quantum system, and suggests a link unexplored yet between the Mpemba effect and the non-Hermitian physics. Event-triggered Add-on Safety for Connected and Automated Vehicles Using Road-side Network Infrastructure

This paper proposes an event-triggered add-on safety mechanism to adjust the control parameters for timely braking in a networked vehicular system while maintaining maneuverability. Passenger vehicle maneuverability is significantly affected by the combined slip friction effect, in which larger longitudinal tire slips result in considerable drop in lateral tire forces. This is of higher importance when unexpected dangerous situations occur on the road and immediate actions, such as braking, need to be taken to avoid collision. Harsh braking can lead to high-slip and loss of maneuverability; hence, timely braking is essential to reduce high-slip scenarios. In addition to the vehicles own active safety systems, the proposed event-triggered add-on safety is activated upon being informed about dangers by the road-side infrastructure. The aim is to incorporate the add-on safety feature to adjust the automatic control parameters for smooth and timely braking such that a collision is avoided while vehicle’s maneuverability is maintained. We study two different wireless technologies for communication between the infrastructure and the vehicles, the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and the fifth generation (5G) schemes. The safety advantages of the proposed framework is validated through high-fidelity software simulations.

Indoor location services have developed rapidly in recent years, and various scenarios have corresponding positioning methods. We provide a measurement method of the reference positioning according to different molecular blocks based on the analysis of the location in the narrow corridor environment. Through the change of Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA), the location of the user in the different blocks is determined. The proposed algorithm takes effect when the user passes through a block to another block, the coordinates are adjusted to the block boundary position, and the sensor data is reset. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve submeter-level positioning accuracy with the lowest resource consumption in a narrow environment or corridor. © 2020 IEEE.

A hybrid monotone decision tree model for interval-valued attributes

The existing monotonic decision tree algorithms are based on a linearly ordered constraint that certain attributes are monotonously consistent with the decision, which could be called monotonic attributes, whereas others, called non-monotonic attributes. In practice, monotonic and non-monotonic attributes coexist in most classification tasks, and some attribute values are even evaluated as interval numbers. In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy rank-inconsistent rate based on probability degree to judge the monotonicity of interval numbers. Furthermore, we devised a hybrid model composed of monotonic and non-monotonic attributes to construct a mixed monotone decision tree for interval-valued data. Experiments on artificial and real-world data sets show that the proposed hybrid model is effective.

The impact of uncertainty on decision-making is increasingly prioritized, especially for large geotechnical projects such as tunnels. In this article, the effects of geological/geotechnical uncertainties in tunnel construction time and costs were reduced. The forecasting of geological/geotechnical conditions in a tunnel project was based on the Markov chain. To accessing the more accurate input data of the Markov chain and estimate the construction time and cost required for tunnel construction, tunneling experts were interviewed through a questionnaire. Also, to assess the updating effect on obtained outcomes during the tunnel construction, the model was updated for one time. Finally, comparing the predicted results with the actual results, the effects of the interviewing and updating process were investigated. According to the results, the uncertainties in the predictions were found to be reduced significantly. Lastly, this research can provide guidance or reference for the evaluation and decision-making of complex systems engineering problems, and indicate a direction for further research of risk assessment and decision-making issues. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd
