The goal of coordinated multi-robot exploration tasks is to employ a team of autonomous robots to explore an unknown environment as quickly as possible. Compared with "human-designed" methods, which began with heuristic and rule-based approaches, "learning-based" methods enable individual robots to learn sophisticated and hard-to-design cooperation strategies through deep reinforcement learning technologies. However, in decentralized multi-robot exploration tasks, learning-based algorithms are still far from being universally applicable to the continuous space due to the difficulties associated with area calculation and reward function designing;moreover, existing "learning-based" methods encounter problems when attempting to balance the "historical trajectory" issue and target area conflict problem. Furthermore, the scalability of these methods to a large number of agents is poor because of the exponential explosion problem of state space. Accordingly, this paper proposes a novel approach Multi-head Attention-based Multi-robot Exploration in Continuous Space (MAMECS) aimed at reducing the state space and automatically "learning" the cooperation strategies required for decentralized multi-robot exploration tasks in continuous space. Computational geometry knowledge is applied to describe the environment in continuous space and to design an improved reward function to ensure a superior exploration rate. Moreover, the multi-head attention mechanism employed helps to solve the "historical trajectory" issue in the decentralized multi-robot exploration task, as well as to reduce the quadratic increase of action space. Event-triggered add-on safety for connected and automated vehicles using road-side network infrastructure

This paper proposes an event-triggered add-on safety mechanism to adjust the control parameters for timely braking in a networked vehicular system while maintaining maneuverability. Passenger vehicle maneuverability is significantly affected by the combined-slip friction effect, in which larger longitudinal tire slips result in considerable drop in lateral tire forces. This is of higher importance when unexpected dangerous situations occur on the road and immediate actions, such as braking, need to be taken to avoid collision. Harsh braking can lead to high-slip and loss of maneuverability;hence, timely braking is essential to reduce high-slip scenarios. In addition to the vehicles own active safety systems, the proposed event-triggered add-on safety is activated upon being informed about dangers by the road-side infrastructure. The aim is to incorporate the add-on safety feature to adjust the automatic control parameters for smooth and timely braking such that a collision is avoided while vehicle's maneuverability is maintained. We study two different wireless technologies for communication between the infrastructure and the vehicles, the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and the fifth generation (5G) schemes. The framework is validated through high-fidelity software simulations and the advantages of including the add-on feature to augment the safety margins for each communication technology is evaluated. In this work, the result of the initial attempt to propose an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) digital security and interoperability standard to support the mobility among ASEAN countries is presented. Literature reviews on existing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) related digital technologies of six ASEAN member countries are conducted. Several concerns related to creating/implementing the ASEAN digital security and interoperability standard are discussed including the technology accessing concern, the data security and privacy concern, and the data interoperability and availability concern. The proposed solution toward creating an ASEAN digital security and interoperability standard is then presented. To evaluate the proposed solution, a survey has been conducted on representatives of nine ASEAN countries on four main issues including the security standards and requirements, the interoperability standard and requirements, the certifications, and the implementation challenges. According to the survey and the discussion, seven recommendations were proposed toward creating an ASEAN digital security and interoperability standard. First, each country collects and maintains the data of its own citizens and also provides a method to authenticate and access the data by authorized requests. Second, QR code standard or ASEAN QR code standard must be agreed upon so that it can be authenticated and verified by ASEAN countries. Third, health risk assessment must be agreed upon to be used. Forth, the security standard, the data, the data format and the exchange protocol must be agreed upon at the ASEAN policy level while adoption of international standards as an implementation guideline will ease of the process and neutralize different requirements from various countries. Environmental infrastructure investment(EII)is an important environmental policy instrument on responding to greenhouse gas(GHG)emission and air *** paper employs an improved stochastic impact by regression on population,affluence and technology(STRIPAT)model by using panel data from 30 Chinese provinces and municipalities for the period of 2003–2015 to investigate the effect of EII on CO2 emissions,SO2 emissions,and PM2.5 *** results indicate that EII has a positive and significant effect on mitigating CO2 ***,the effect of EII on SO2 emission fluctuated although it still contributes to the reduction of PM2.5 pollution through technology *** intensity has the largest impact on GHG emissions and air pollution,followed by GDP per capita and industrial *** addition,the effect of EII on environmental issues varies in different *** findings suggest that policies on EII should be region-specific so that more appropriate mitigation policies can be raised by considering the local realities.

Analysis of moving target defense against false data injection attacks on power grid

Recent studies have considered thwarting false data injection (FDI) attacks against state estimation in power grids by proactively perturbing branch susceptances. This approach is known as moving target defense (MTD). However, despite of the deployment of MTD, it is still possible for the attacker to launch stealthy FDI attacks generated with former branch susceptances. In this paper, we prove that, an MTD has the capability to thwart all FDI attacks constructed with former branch susceptances only if (i) the number of branches l in the power system is not less than twice that of the system states n (i.e., l ≥ 2n, where n + 1 is the number of buses);(ii) the susceptances of more than n branches, which cover all buses, are perturbed. Moreover, we prove that the state variable of a bus that is only connected by a single branch (no matter it is perturbed or not) can always be modified by the attacker. Nevertheless, in order to reduce the attack opportunities of potential attackers, we first exploit the impact of the susceptance perturbation magnitude on the dimension of the stealthy attack space, in which the attack vector is constructed with former branch susceptances. Then, we propose that, by perturbing an appropriate set of branches, we can minimize the dimension of the stealthy attack space and maximize the number of covered buses. Besides, we consider the increasing operation cost caused by the activation of MTD. Finally, we conduct extensive simulations to illustrate our findings with IEEE standard test power systems. One of the risk factors in skin cancer is unprotected exposure to UV radiation. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer but also curable if it is diagnosed in the early stages. This study uses a histogram analysis technique to investigate and classify two common skin lesions, nevi and melanoma. The colour feature investigated is the optimal threshold values in RGB space. Also, a boundary limit of the skin lesions is performed using a colour histogram analysis and the optimal threshold determination. A statistical analysis of the relevant threshold values for R, G and B histograms to establish a sound colour separation between benign and malignant lesions is performed. Monochromatic channel threshold values are clustered using K-means and the validity of clustering is assessed by silhouette method. The proposed method technique is evaluated using 120 colour digital images (60 melanomas and 60 nevi) from the Digital Archive of the Department of Dermatology of the University Medical Center in Groningen (UMCG)1. The reported results suggest red as the lesion representative colour in dermoscopic images. The pixel values for red channel are strongly related to the skin lesion type. © SGEM 2019.

MRI images contain a lot of subtle information related to various lesions which are difficult to be picked up by radiologists. computer aided diagnosis CAD is a valuable tool to improve the ability of an average radiologist to diagnose the subtle lesions. This study uses the isolated foreground pixels in MRI images as a feature able to discern a stroke patient by a healthy one. Brain MRI image was divided into eight equal sectors. The isolated foreground pixels (i.e. pixels satisfying a neighborhood configuration that corresponds to an isolated foreground pixel) were extracted using hit-or-miss and skeleton transformations. We have tested the proposed algorithms using two cerebral image datasets (healthy and acute stroke patients). The mean SD values of isolated foreground pixels for stroke patients systematically exceed the corresponding values for healthy patients. The higher numbers of isolated foreground pixel determined using hit-or-miss transform indicate this method as a promising approach for a simple and quick evaluation of stroke. © SGEM 2019.
