In recent years, methods from network science are gaining rapidly interest in economics and finance. A reason for this is that in a globalized world the interconnectedness among economic and financial entities are crucial to understand and networks provide a natural framework for representing and studying such systems. In this paper, we are surveying the use of networks and network-based methods for studying economy related questions. We start with a brief overview of graph theory and basic definitions. Then we discuss descriptive network measures and network complexity measures for quantifying structural properties of economic networks. Radiative cooling of the thermally isolated system is investigated in KAGRA gravitational wave telescope. KAGRA is a laser interferometer-based detector and main mirrors constituting optical cavities are cool down to 20K to reduce noises caused by the thermal fluctuation. The mirror is suspended with the multi-stage pendulum to isolate any vibration. Therefore, this mirror suspension system has few heat links to reduce vibration injection. Thus, this system is mainly cooled down with thermal radiation. In order to understand the process of radiative cooling of the mirror, we analyzed cooling curve based on mass and specific heat. As a result, it was newly found that a cryogenic part called 'cryogenic duct-shield' seems to have large contribution in the beginning of the mirror cooling. This finding will help to design new cooling system for the next generation cryogenic gravitational wave detector.

This paper proposes an improvement over Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression algorithm by employing a new method that uses exponential decay (ED) as a tool to manage and remove infrequently used entries in the LZW dictionary. The presented results demonstrate that ED may be an efficient tool to manage and refresh the LZW dictionary. The achieved compression ratio is higher than in the traditional methods like Dictionary Reset DR and Least Recently used LRU. The experimental results demonstrate that the dictionary refresh by the ED may provide higher compression ratio, compared with the original LZW algorithm. In order to investigate the benefits of ED method, it is compared with some other way of LRU-based enhancements. In particular, we consider a LRU-like LZW scheme with Huffman coding of difference from last used word.

Depolarization of wireless communication signals in two dimensions is a well studied phenomenon. However, with systems being deployed in ever more cluttered environments, this work herein illustrates that depolarization should be considered a three dimensional effect. The work presents analytical frameworks to study depolarization in three dimensions and empirical results illustrating its potentially significant impact.

In this paper, we present a new approach to detect traffic signs based on cascaded convolutional neural networks (CNNs). First, the local binary pattern (LBP) feature detector and the AdaBoost classifier are combined to extract regions of interest (ROI) for coarse selection. Next, cascaded CNNs are employed to reduce negative samples of ROI for traffic sign recognition. Compared with the conventional CNN, our CNN contains three convolutional layers and its classification part is replaced by the support vector machine (SVM). The German traffic sign detection benchmark is used and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve competitive results when compared with the state-of-the-art approaches.

According to the existing researches, a new Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems under the time-varying delay were constructed. To reaching a superior sampled-data stability, the approach of input delay with free-weighting matrix is used. New criterion of stability is proposed. Lyapunov-Krasovskii function's derivative also included, it means a feasible condition. Fuzzy sampled-data controller is designed with asymptotically stability. Truck-trailer system as a simulation illustrated the superiority of fuzzy sampled-data control design.

Access control is an extremely important and error-prone practice during web application. The emergence of NoSQL databases and the flexible data models they bring impose new challenges on the implementation of access control within web applications. This paper presents Scout, a novel methodology for discovering access control vulnerabilities in existing web applications. Meanwhile (1) features of NoSQL database can be addressed and (2) neither application source code nor server-side session information from the developers is required. This paper implements a prototype of Scout, which targets MongoDB backend web applications. By automatically discovering the protocol layer in the web application stack, Scout introduces a data access operation model precisely representing the MongoDB actions performed in the web application, as well as inferring the access control policies. The prototype is shown to be able to identify comprehensive access control vulnerabilities in MongoDB backend web applications, and generate detailed report as the facilitator to manually fix the identified vulnerabilities.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have delivered impressive state-of-the-art performances for many vision tasks, while the computation costs of these networks during test-time are notorious. Empirical results have discovered that CNNs have learned the redundant representations both within and across different layers. When CNNs are applied for binary classification, we investigate a method to exploit this redundancy across layers, and construct a cascade of classifiers which explicitly balances classification accuracy and hierarchical feature extraction costs. Our method cost-sensitively selects feature points across several layers from trained networks and embeds non-expensive yet discriminative features into a cascade. Experiments on binary classification demonstrate that our framework leads to drastic test-time improvements, e.g., possible 47.2× speedup for TRECVID upper body detection, 2.82× speedup for Pascal VOC2007 People detection, 3.72× for INRIA Person detection with less than 0.5% drop in accuracies of the original networks.
