Discovering inter-point connection for efficient high-dimensional feature extraction from point coordinate is a key challenge in processing point cloud. Most existing methods focus on designing efficient local feature extractors while ignoring global connection, or vice versa. In this paper, we design a new Inductive Bias-aided Transformer (IBT) method to learn 3D inter-point relations, which considers both local and global attentions. Specifically, considering local spatial coherence, local feature learning is performed through Relative Position Encoding and Attentive Feature Pooling. We incorporate the learned locality into the Transformer module. The local feature affects value component in Transformer to modulate the relationship between channels of each point, which can enhance self-attention mechanism with locality based channel interaction. Distributed dictionary learning is to learn a global dictionary so that all data distributed in a network has sparse representation in the domain of the dictionary. Existing works are based on sparse synthesis model. We consider this problem based on the sparse analysis model, and propose a distributed analysis dictionary learning (ADL) algorithm using consensus constraints. In particular, local dictionaries corresponding to local data at each node are introduced, and the distributed ADL problem is formulated as a minimization problem with consensus constraints on local dictionaries and the global dictionary. An optimization method consisting of a sparse coding stage and a dictionary update stage is then developed. Experimental results have shown that the performance of the proposed algorithm is comparable to centralized ADL algorithms. © 2021 IEEE.

Energy has become an integral part of our life. The fossil fuel present in the environment is very much limited. On the other hand, fossil fuel emits harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), carbon monoxide, and others which harmed flora and fauna. Therefore, the concern for renewable energy application has become more vital due to the depletion of fossil fuels, rising global warming, and increased consumption of energy. Renewable energy aims to reduce pollution levels, enhancing the local economy and community sustainability. Solar energy is the most promising alternative energy source since it has various advantages over other renewable energy sources. The sun is an unquenchable source of energy capable of addressing all energy requirements of humankind. The solar energy concept has been around for a long time, and technological advancements will make it endure for a longer period. The PV-Effect is a mechanism that can produce an electric current when sunlight strikes the limiting layer of semiconductor materials. A photovoltaic (PV) system is a semiconductor device that produces electricity when exposed to luminosity. A PV module is made up of several solar cells that are coupled in parallel and series. This paper provides an extensive study of advancements in energy extraction techniques from a solar panel, analysing solar PV systems under diverse circumstances. PV technology is hastily evolving compared to alternative renewables, consequently leading to the Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) systems playing a significant role in the generation of electrical energy. BIPV system is a preferred choice as a building integrated solar energy storage system. It has been categorised into three subparts: Grid-connected BIPV system, BIPV system with a solar battery, and PV-Trombe wall. Sparse large-scale multi-objective optimization problems (SLSMOPs) hold significant practical relevance across various domains. However, the efficacy of existing evolutionary algorithms (EAs) in tackling these optimization challenges is limited due to the high-dimensional search space and the sparsity inherent in Pareto optimal solutions. To overcome these difficulties, a dynamic strongly convex sparse operator with learning mechanism (DSCSOLM) is proposed. We design a novel strongly convex function that can effectively generate sparse solutions and enable the newly generated sparse solutions to learn knowledge from the Pareto optimal solutions, making the obtained sparse solutions more in line with the sparse distribution of the Pareto optimal solutions. Moreover, dynamic parameter is used within the proposed strongly convex function during the execution of the algorithm. Experimental results of benchmark and neural network training problems validate that DSCSOLM outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) comparative algorithms.

Cervical cancer is one of the most widespread malignancies affecting women’s health worldwide today. However, the task of detection is particularly difficult due to the complex background of the cervical smear, where cells are previously stacked in clusters. To address this problem, we utilize the YOLOv5 as the baseline and build on YOLOv5 by using the simple Transformer Block which only combines with multi-head self attention layers and MLP to better extract cell features as well as to obtain global information. In addition, we allow the model to refine features adaptively to assist with detection by using Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM), an attention module being simple and effective for feed-forward convolutional neural networks, in the complex background information. Finally, we compare the model with YOLOv5 as baseline. In CDetector dataset, our model obtains 52.5% mAP@.5, which is 6% better than baseline. In transfer learning, it is 62.2%, which outperforms baseline by 3.2%. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) has applications in diverse fields, including sports management and behavior classification. Existing HAR methods can be categorized into three main approaches: camera-based, wearable sensor-based, and Wi-Fi sensing-based. Camera-based methods suffer from privacy concerns, while wearable sensor-based methods face limitations in battery longevity and continuous monitoring. Wi-Fi sensing methods mitigate privacy and battery issues but rely on costly Intel 5300 network cards or software-defined radio (SDR) platforms, limiting scalability. This paper presents a cost-effective IoT-based human activity recognition system using ESP32, leveraging its Wi-Fi sensing capabilities. The proposed system follows a structured workflow: (i) channel state information (CSI) is extracted from ESP32 modules, (ii) data preprocessing is performed using Hampel and Gaussian filters for noise and outlier removal, (iii) dimensionality reduction is achieved through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and (iv) activity classification is conducted using Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that the proposed system achieves an average recognition accuracy of 98.6 % across six human activities, comparable to high-end Intel 5300-based HAR systems, while significantly reducing hardware costs and improving ease of deployment. © 2025

The surge in smart device usage and the demand for high-throughput, low-latency mobile networks have accelerated the adoption of distributed smart applications and Collaborative Resource Management (CRM) techniques such as Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC). With its ability to handle large data volumes, computational demands, scalability, and high energy consumption, MEC represents the next generation of Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC), addressing key challenges in emerging smart applications. MEC supports real-time, high-throughput, and energy-efficient techniques like task offloading and ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC). However, as these techniques become more widespread, their diversity increases, leading to complexities that make them harder to understand and validate in different applications. This includes their use in areas like assistance for unmanned vehicles (UVs), autonomous driving, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), high altitude platforms (HAPs), underwater unmanned vehicles (UUVs), satellite air-ground communication (SAGC), and other emerging systems that rely on Collaborative Resource Management (CRM). Although a number of review articles pertaining to MEC systems exist, we analyzed techniques beyond task offloading that explore MEC system applicability in diverse domains, including UUVs, vehicular edge computing, Re-configurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Massive MIMO, autonomous driving, HAPs, and SAGC. From the perspective of these optimization techniques, this article highlights their role in shaping MEC’s evolution, focusing on parameters such as real-time response, energy efficiency, and other critical factors in task offloading processes. We also explored the role of Standard Development Organizations (SDOs), such as ETSI and IEEE, in advancing MEC systems. To achieve low joint-angle drift and avoid mutual collision between dual redundant manipulators (DRMs) when they are doing collaboration works, a recurrent neural network based bicriteria repetitive motion collision avoidance (BRMCA) scheme is proposed for motion planning of DRMs. By designing a combined optimization objective encompassing both repetitive motion criterion and collision avoidance criterion, the BRMCA scheme has larger feasible region and less constraint contradiction issues compared with traditional inequality constraints based method. Furthermore, by incorporating velocity-level kinematic model and physical limits of DRMs into the scheme, a time varying quadratic programming (TVQP) problem is formulated. The linear variational inequality-based primal–dual neural network (LVI-PDNN) is used to solve the proposed scheme due to the high accuracy and low computation complexity. Finally, through comparison simulations of tracking Circle-shape and C-shape trajectories between BRMCA scheme and minimum velocity norm (MVN) scheme, it exhibits that the proposed BRMCA scheme can achieve low joint-angle drift, collision avoidance and high tracking accuracy when DRMs are doing cooperative tasks. © 2025 IEEE.

DexRepNet: Learning Dexterous Robotic Grasping Network with Geometric and Spatial Hand-Object Representations

Robotic dexterous grasping is a challenging problem due to the high degree of freedom (DoF) and complex contacts of multi-fingered robotic hands. Existing deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based methods leverage human demonstrations to reduce sample complexity due to the high dimensional action space with dexterous grasping. However, less attention has been paid to hand-object interaction representations for high-level generalization. In this paper, we propose a novel geometric and spatial hand-object interaction representation, named DexRep, to capture object surface features and the spatial relations between hands and objects during grasping. DexRep comprises Occupancy Feature for rough shapes within sensing range by moving hands, Surface Feature for changing hand-object surface distances, and Local-Geo Feature for local geometric surface features most related to potential contacts. Based on the new representation, we propose a dexterous deep reinforcement learning method DexRepNet to learn a generalizable grasping policy. Experimental results show that our method outperforms baselines using existing representations for robotic grasping dramatically both in grasp success rate and convergence speed. It achieves a 93% grasping success rate on seen objects and higher than 80% grasping success rates on diverse objects of unseen categories in both simulation and real-world ex eriments © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.
