In the past few years, latency-sensitive task computing over the industrial internet of things (IIoT) has played a key role in an increasing number of intelligent applications, such as intelligent self-driving vehicles and unmanned aircraft systems. The edge computing paradigm provides a basic functional infrastructure for across-domain business task computing on distributed edge servers. With this observation, a trade-off between the mobile devices and the fixed edge servers is needed to run moving task computing in a low-latency way. Given this challenge, an intelligent server selection method, named SeeMe, is proposed in this paper. Technically speaking, this method aims at minimizing the communication capacity and the transferring capacity in a multiobjective optimization way to find a low-latency edge server. The experiments and comparison analysis verify the availability of our method. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Existing methods for decomposing monolithic applications into microservices in cloud environments primarily rely on the call relationships within itself. However, these methods are difficult to apply directly in resource-constrained and distributed edge network scenarios without considering the heterogeneity of the device. Therefore, this paper proposes a clustering method that ensembles graph structures and device features based on attention mechanism, which utilizes attention encoders to learn node embeddings and employs a spectral clustering algorithm to obtain decomposition results, optimizing the affinity and matching degree between microservices and devices. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits excellent performance in terms of functional independence, modularity, and adaptability of microservices.

Over the past few years, two-factor authentication (2FA) has emerged as a reliable defense against various cyber-attacks, such as Man in the Middle (MITM) and cookie theft. By combining passphrase and one-time password (OTP) authentication, it has successfully preserved the privacy of users across multiple applications. However, recent advancements in quantum computing have posed a threat to the security of credentials. Quantum computers now possess the capability to penetrate standard encryption algorithms. To address this concern, this research aims to implement new post-quantum algorithms for encryption and secure transference of authentication credentials. Specifically, this research will explore NTRU, CRYSTALS-Dilithium, SPHINCS+, and FALCON while evaluating their performance benchmarks against each other within an OTP authentication system. The goal is to determine which algorithm best suits the scenario with enhanced resistance against quantum-related threats. © 2024 IEEE.

In the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, several buildings in Nepal suffered heavy damages;however, those related to pounding were few. As result, row housing practices with inadequate seismic gap between buildings have been prevalent. This paper aims to compare the pounding effects of the Gorkha earthquake with that of earthquakes representative of hazard level prescribed by the national seismic design code in order to shed light on the risk of pounding damages due to potential future earthquakes in Nepal. Two reinforced concrete (RC) buildings, five storied and seven storied, were modeled and subjected to time histories of eight earthquakes—Gorkha, Kobe, El Centro, Loma Prieta, Cape Mendocino, Erzincan, Landers and Northridge Olive View matched to the response spectrum of NBC 105:2020 and the actual time history of the Gorkha earthquake. Spectral matching of the earthquakes was performed in frequency domain to preserve their frequency characteristics. The simulation of pounding was facilitated by the use of Kelvin–Voigt impact element which is capable of modeling energy dissipation during impact. The results show that the pounding forces in case of matched earthquakes were 1.3–4.4 times as great as that of Gorkha earthquake. Similarly, separation gap requirement was found to be greater for the matched earthquakes than that of Gorkha earthquake. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.

Pigmented skin lesions must be identified in order to detect hazardous skin-related disorders, especially cancer. To improve the correctness of skin cancer recognition, image detection strategies and classification abilities can be utilized. Based on the HAM10000 dataset, which contains 10015 photos, this research paper makes use of the dataset. An augmentation has been carried out on a subset of the dataset in the proposed work. Compared to an approach with &without data augmentation, is more likely to learn unique traits and attributes. To make the model more accurate, data augmentation is often used. However, until the model is strong, it will not be able to produce meaningful results when tested with the testing data. This work's model is robust since it makes use of the k-fold cross-validation technique. Machine learning methods and models from Convolutional Neural Networks have been evaluated for their classification accuracy. After comparing the suggested work's use of several machine learning methods, we found that Convolutional Neural Network produced the best results in terms of accuracy. We achieved a maximum accuracy of 95.53% using the CNN in the suggested setup. Early detection of seven types of skin illness is made easier by the suggested work, which may be authenticated and treated properly by medicinal professionals. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing adoption of IoT devices in healthcare necessitates the development of lightweight and fast intrusion detection systems (IDS). This paper proposes a weighted ensemble ML IDS with parallelized batch learning to optimize runtime while maintaining ML performance. The proposed method is compared to other solutions, evaluating ML performance and runtime across three different datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that although batch learning introduces feedback delay that slightly degrades ML performance, parallel computing significantly reduces runtime. © 2024 IEEE.

Blockchain based distributed ledger mechanism has got a wide range of applications in this era. The degree of security measurement is always a bottleneck. Since there are technologies to break it. Data sharing through cloud for smart cities, collaborative actions, remote activities based on the data at the source, etc., need to be secure and free from masquerading and tampering. In most of the cases the data is pushed into the cloud from access points, sensors, or remote access centers. Preventing the data access and identifying anonymous access to these sensors require an enhanced security mechanism that prevents the inconsistent data to be transferred to the cloud. We propose a blockchain based enhanced security system that protects the data from the access point it leaves for the cloud using a distributed ledger. The consensus mechanism ensures the trust of existing sources during the data transfer from the source to the cloud. The trust generated by the subsequent data blocks with the security hash key ensure the integrity of the data and validity of the actual source. This prevent the illegal access to the data sharing points. We have verified the degree of security offered by our proposed model using informal analysis. We found that our method has improved the security of data access. © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT), which is utilized for data collection and long-distance wireless communications, has assimilated into contemporary life. There is a problem with transferring, preserving, and analyzing a lot of statistics as a result of the growth in IoT applications. Precision agriculture (PA) can now be used because to enhancements in wireless communication and current computer technology. In this research, we analyze the agricultural application situations and empirical experiments to find acceptable, realistic and practicable wireless communication systems for PA. For PA uses, 3 different types of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) architectures depending on narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), long range (Lo-Ra), and zig-bee wireless communication systems are implemented an enabled. Three WSN systems' viability is confirmed by related tests. The energy usage of 3 wireless communication systems are contrasted by evaluating the average communication period. Field trials and in-depth assessment reveal that Lo-Ra and NB-IoT are two viable wireless communication systems for field agriculture situations, whereas ZigBee is a superior option for tracking establishment agriculture. © 2023 IEEE.

This research investigates the attitudes and perceptions of engineering educators in Kerala, India, towards the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) within the framework of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological university (APJAKTU), Kerala. Despite the growing emphasis on experiential learning, only limited research studies focus on understanding the attitudes and perceptions of engineering faculty members towards PjBL. Against this backdrop, the present study aims to critically examine the readiness of engineering educators in adopting and identifying PjBL strategies for its effective integration into engineering curricula. The paper explores various dimensions of engineering educators' engagement with PjBL, including faculty interest levels, satisfaction of implementation, perceived effectiveness, and career implications. The data were collected from engineering faculty members by distributing a comprehensive questionnaire titled Project-Based Learning in engineering Education in Kerala (PLEEK), uniquely designed by the researchers. The research findings reveal that over 90% of the surveyed faculty members have shown keen interest in implementing PjBL, while the remaining respondents exhibited a neutral stance. This underscores a noteworthy receptivity to PjBL among engineering educators in Kerala. Suggestions from participants indicate that, if implemented correctly, PjBL would be highly effective, although time constraints pose a significant challenge. The results obtained are pivotal as they provide an explicit idea of the current status of the engineering education settings and the discrepancies between traditional theoretical instruction and project-based learning. © 2024 IEEE.

As the difficulty level in competitive kung fu increases, martial artists must produce accurate, stable, excellent, and challenging actions to attain remarkable performance. Many diverse martial arts are interested in the real-time separation of martial arts movements. The main emphasis of this research is on the real-time collection and modelling of virtual reality picture targets in the demanding movement technology of martial arts routines. The pre-processing of existing images is examined in this research while taking the intricate details of martial arts moves into account. This article proposes an edge segmentation algorithm for the martial arts recognition (ESA-MAR) system. The attributes of the acquired photographs are enhanced using contrast enhancement, background subtraction, and conventional median approaches. This method can improve the aesthetic impact of the raw image, and the image size can aid in segmentation in the future. An innovative image classification approach is suggested for the image's colour model. The Hue Saturation Value (HSV) form of the colour image is converted, and the H element-which denotes chromaticity properties-is retrieved based on the HSV model H component. For H elements, the concept of a graph applies. The scaling target in the image is identified based on the distribution of the H element, which also establishes the classification threshold. Virtual reality (VR) technology is used because the modelling area is colour-sensitive to determine the segmentation target rapidly. The automated extraction of items in the image is finished when the above split methods are coupled. The technique of picture extraction employing VR technology is highly precise, with a relative error of 2.82. According to the findings, the approach produces good classification performance and is suited for picture classification and automated image extraction in difficult backgrounds. © 2024 IEEE.
