Image Enhancement via Associated Perturbation Removal and Texture Reconstruction Learning

Degradation under challenging conditions such as rain, haze, and low light not only diminishes content visibility, but also results in additional degradation side effects, including detail occlusion and color distortion. However, current technologies have barely explored the correlation between perturbation removal and background restoration, consequently struggling to generate high-naturalness content in challenging scenarios. In this paper, we rethink the image enhancement task from the perspective of joint optimization: Perturbation removal and texture reconstruction. To this end, we advise an efficient yet effective image enhancement model, termed the perturbation-guided texture reconstruction network(PerTeRNet). It contains two subnetworks designed for the perturbation elimination and texture reconstruction tasks, respectively. To facilitate texture recovery,we develop a novel perturbation-guided texture enhancement module(PerTEM) to connect these two tasks, where informative background features are extracted from the input with the guidance of predicted perturbation priors. To alleviate the learning burden and computational cost, we suggest performing perturbation removal in a sub-space and exploiting super-resolution to infer high-frequency background details. Our PerTeRNet has demonstrated significant superiority over typical methods in both quantitative and qualitative measures, as evidenced by extensive experimental results on popular image enhancement and joint detection tasks. Monitoring COVID-19 environment: a real-time facial mask detection using YOLO models

Purpose: The rapid spread of COVID-19 has resulted in significant harm and impacted tens of millions of people globally. In order to prevent the transmission of the virus, individuals often wear masks as a protective measure for themselves and others. Coronavirus protection guidelines have been published by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO standards, COVID-19 can be prevented by wearing a mask in public places and congested regions. In these places, it is very difficult to personally check to see if people are wearing face masks or not. Methods: The objective of this research work is to build a powerful, efficient, and real-time approach for detecting people not wearing masks. Three cutting-edge object identification models, namely YOLOv4, Tiny-YOLOv4, and YOLOv5, are employed in this study for the identification of masked faces. Result: The proposed YOLOv5 model is evaluated using real-time images captured using a smartphone or tablet. The test images include both single and multiple people with and without masks. The YOLOv5 model achieved recognition accuracy of 88.90% with an average detection speed of 0.0316 s per image, whereas the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4 produced recognition accuracy of 82.24% and 74.80% with an average detection speed of 0.0530 s and 0.0541 s per image, respectively. Conclusion: The comparative performance suggests that the YOLOv5 model has a maximum recognition accuracy of 88.90% in face mask identification tasks compared to other models such as the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Brazilian Society of Biomedical engineering 2025.

Bifurcation analysis and control study of improved full-speed differential model in connected vehicle environment

In recent years, the traffic congestion problem has become more and more serious, and the research on traffic system control has become a new hot spot. Studying the bifurcation characteristics of traffic flow systems and designing control schemes for unstable pivots can alleviate the traffic congestion problem from a new perspective. In this work, the full-speed differential model considering the vehicle network environment is improved in order to adjust the traffic flow from the perspective of bifurcation control, the existence conditions of Hopf bifurcation and saddle-node bifurcation in the model are proved theoretically, and the stability mutation point for the stability of the transportation system is found. For the unstable bifurcation point, a nonlinear system feedback controller is designed by using Chebyshev polynomial approximation and stochastic feedback control method. The advancement, postponement, and elimination of Hopf bifurcation are achieved without changing the system equilibrium point, and the mutation behavior of the transportation system is controlled so as to alleviate the traffic congestion. The changes in the stability of complex traffic systems are explained through the bifurcation analysis, which can better capture the characteristics of the traffic flow. By adjusting the control parameters in the feedback controllers, the influence of the boundary conditions on the stability of the traffic system is adequately described, and the effects of the unstable focuses and saddle points on the system are suppressed to slow down the traffic flow. In addition, the unstable bifurcation points can be eliminated and the Hopf bifurcation can be controlled to advance, delay, and disappear,so as to realize the control of the stability behavior of the traffic system, which can help to alleviate the traffic congestion and describe the actual traffic phenomena as well.

Drug-Target Interactions Prediction Based on Signed Heterogeneous Graph Neural Networks

Drug-target interactions(DTIs) prediction plays an important role in the process of drug *** computational methods treat it as a binary prediction problem, determining whether there are connections between drugs and targets while ignoring relational types information. Considering the positive or negative effects of DTIs will facilitate the study on comprehensive mechanisms of multiple drugs on a common target, in this work, we model DTIs on signed heterogeneous networks, through categorizing interaction patterns of DTIs and additionally extracting interactions within drug pairs and target protein pairs. We propose signed heterogeneous graph neural networks(SHGNNs), further put forward an end-to-end framework for signed DTIs prediction, called SHGNN-DTI,which not only adapts to signed bipartite networks, but also could naturally incorporate auxiliary information from drug-drug interactions(DDIs) and protein-protein interactions(PPIs). For the framework, we solve the message passing and aggregation problem on signed DTI networks, and consider different training modes on the whole networks consisting of DTIs, DDIs and PPIs. Experiments are conducted on two datasets extracted from Drug Bank and related databases, under different settings of initial inputs, embedding dimensions and training modes. The prediction results show excellent performance in terms of metric indicators, and the feasibility is further verified by the case study with two drugs on breast cancer.

Optimizing Image Retrieval in Cloud Servers with TN-AGW: A Secure and Efficient Approach

The increasing use of cloud-based image storage and retrieval systems has made ensuring security and efficiency crucial. The security enhancement of image retrieval and image archival in cloud computing has received considerable attention in transmitting data and ensuring data confidentiality among cloud servers and users. Various traditional image retrieval techniques regarding security have developed in recent years but they do not apply to large-scale environments. This paper introduces a new approach called Triple network-based adaptive grey wolf (TN-AGW) to address these challenges. The TN-AGW framework combines the adaptability of the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm with the resilience of Triple Network (TN) to enhance image retrieval in cloud servers while maintaining robust security measures. By using adaptive mechanisms, TN-AGW dynamically adjusts its parameters to improve the efficiency of image retrieval processes, reducing latency and utilization of resources. However, the image retrieval process is efficiently performed by a triple network and the parameters employed in the network are optimized by Adaptive Grey Wolf (AGW) optimization. Imputation of missing values, Min–Max normalization, and Z-score standardization processes are used to preprocess the images. The image extraction process is undertaken by a modified convolutional neural network (MCNN) approach. Moreover, input images are taken from datasets such as the Landsat 8 dataset and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) dataset is employed for image retrieval. Further, the performance such as accuracy, precision, recall, specificity, F1-score, and false alarm rate (FAR) is evaluated, the value of accuracy reaches 98.1%, the precision of 97.2%, recall of 96.1%, and specificity of 917.2% respectively. Also, the convergence speed is enhanced in this TN-AGW approach. Therefore, the proposed TN-AGW approach achieves greater efficiency in image retrieving than other existing

Towards optimal path planning for sustainable data collection in real-time wireless sensor networks

Data collection using mobile sink(s) has proven to reduce energy consumption and enhance the network lifetime of wireless sensor networks. Generally speaking, a mobile sink (MS) traverses the network region, sojourning at rendezvous points (RPs) and gathering data there from nearby sensor nodes (SNs). However, determining the optimal number and location of RPs is a hard problem. Metaheuristic algorithms are well suited to solve such kind of problems. In this paper, we propose a tour planning scheme for the MS by a combined approach that uses K-means clustering and Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. The proposed scheme first determines a set of near-optimal RPs and then uses them to schedule the tour of the MS. Herein, the energy consumption of the overall scheme is reduced due to the low computational cost of the proposed algorithm. At last, the proposed scheme is shown to outperform the comparative algorithms through simulation. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

An optimized deep network-based intermediate code generation for the mathematical expression

In recent times, the system's mathematical expression and operation have gained greater reach in engineering and mathematics. It is vital to solving more complex expressions and equations in a short time. The most existing methodology was degraded in the recognition performance and provided inaccurate output. Therefore, a novel Squirrel-based Spiking Neural Model (SbSNM) was presented for the intermediate code generation from the mathematical expression relation data. Initially, the input ME relation data was preprocessed to remove noise and tokenized by the spiking neural features. The tokenized expressions were arranged into a syntax tree structure, and then intermediate code was generated by the squirrel functions. Finally, the differentiation was calculated and given as output. Subsequently, the performance parameters were evaluated for the presented SbSNM. The overall accuracy obtained by the presented model is 99.25% which is higher than the other existing techniques and also brought a higher precision and recall rate and f1-score. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Automatically detecting learners’engagement levels helps to develop more effective online teaching and assessment programs,allowing teachers to provide timely feedback and make personalized adjustments based on students’needs to enhance teaching *** approaches mainly rely on single-frame multimodal facial spatial information,neglecting temporal emotional and behavioural features,with accuracy affected by significant pose ***,convolutional padding can erode feature maps,affecting feature extraction’s representational *** address these issues,we propose a hybrid neural network architecture,the redistributing facial features and temporal convolutional network(RefEIP).This network consists of three key components:first,utilizing the spatial attention mechanism large kernel attention(LKA)to automatically capture local patches and mitigate the effects of pose variations;second,employing the feature organization and weight distribution(FOWD)module to redistribute feature weights and eliminate the impact of white features and enhancing representation in facial feature ***,we analyse the temporal changes in video frames through the modern temporal convolutional network(ModernTCN)module to detect engagement *** constructed a near-infrared engagement video dataset(NEVD)to better validate the efficiency of the RefEIP *** extensive experiments and in-depth studies,we evaluated these methods on the NEVD and the Database for Affect in Situations of Elicitation(DAiSEE),achieving an accuracy of 90.8%on NEVD and 61.2%on DAiSEE in the fourclass classification task,indicating significant advantages in addressing engagement video analysis problems.
