Following the publication of EEG-ImageNet with 40 class labels by Spampinato et. al. [1], where natural images with multiple semantics are directly used to stimulate human brains in a deterministic order, extensive research has been attempted and widely reported in the literature over the topic of decoding human brains via EEG classifications, making people feel optimistic that mind reading via computational intelligence is emerging on the horizon [2, 3, 4, 5]. In 2020, however, Li et al. [6] published their investigation over EEG-ImageNet and reported that, when the order of brain stimulation is randomized, the classification rate in decoding brain perception of natural images drops to chances [7]. Ahmed et al. then updated EEG-ImageNet by increasing the number of samples to 10 times more and tested a range of classifiers, where the maximum classification rate achieved is 7% [8], presenting an extremely difficult challenge for this direction of *** this paper, we report our latest attempt to address this challenge with a new deep framework. Compared with the existing efforts, our proposed framework features in: (i) representational projection to transform decoding brain perception of natural images into a problem of image classification, paving the way for introducing ResNet as the primary backbone to exploit its success in image classification across the areas of computer vision and pattern recognition;(ii) replacing ReLU with ELU to increase its robustness to noises, and add a focused attention to improve its selectivity and intensiveness in learning;(iii) statistics-fused learning to coordinate four ResNet-based deep classifiers and maximize their collective efforts to produce the final decoding output. Extensive experiments and ablation studies are carried out, and the accuracy of classifying the randomized EEG trials has almost doubled the maximum rate reported so far in the literature. © 2025, The Authors. Text imageability is often used to quantize the ease with which a natural language description can invoke a mental image in a reader. With the proliferation of artificial intelligence powered text-to-image generation models, it will likely play an even more significant role in bridging the gap between language and visual representation. Unfortunately, automatically suggesting proper imageable textural prompts from a piece of plain text has scarcely been systematically investigated. In this paper, we narrow the gap by introducing a novel framework for text imageability assessment to automatically predict whether a piece of plain text and a prompt is highly imageable to be fed into a text-to-image model for faithful image generation. We have also developed a new visual-text dataset, named Ted1.6k, to facilitate model training and validation. Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a promising approach for collaborative machine learning while respecting data privacy. However, directly aggregating local models during FL training can expose sensitive information, as adversaries may analyze model parameters to infer the underlying raw data. To address this concern, implementing a robust identity authentication mechanism can verify the integrity of local models and confirm their sources. However, many existing authentication schemes are computationally intensive, which can hinder performance. In this article, we present a lightweight authentication scheme for FL called EPPAFL. This innovative approach is compatible with all machine learning algorithms, maintains data utility, and ensures strong privacy protection. Additionally, it can be integrated with detection mechanisms to defend against data poisoning and free-rider attacks. Specifically, we first design a certificateless signature scheme based on the elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and then propose an anonymous and efficient authentication protocol based on the Chinese remainder theorem (CRT), which supports batch verification, dynamic updates, and revocations of group keys. Moreover, participants interact anonymously to achieve secure communication, and trusted authority (TA) can track and recover the real identities of participants in case of malicious activities. We provide formal security proofs and analyses to demonstrate the achieved security properties. Performance evaluations demonstrate that our proposed protocol significantly reduces the costs associated with signature generation and verification, outperforming the existing schemes in both communication and computational efficiency. © 2014 IEEE.

In light of the pervasive significance of privacy protection in contemporary society, the exploration of covert communication technology has been extensive, which is designed to safeguard communication behaviors and contents from disclosure. The decentralization, anonymity, and robustness of blockchain technology render it a more suitable medium for covert communication than traditional networks, which are vulnerable to tracing and destruction. Nevertheless, state-of-the-art blockchain-based covert communication schemes tend to focus on the concealment of a single type of constituent element in a blockchain transaction. These methods are able to resist detection methods for a particular element, yet are easily exposed under the joint detection of multiple classes of methods. The absence of resistance to joint detection methods targeting all elements presents a significant challenge that impedes the advancement of blockchain-based covert channels. Consequently, BlockWhisper is proposed as a blockchain-based hybrid covert channel that is capable of evading the recognition of various detection methods. Following the probability distribution model obtained from a blockchain transaction distribution analysis method, BlockWhisper is implemented using a top address list and a special hybrid coding method. The experiments demonstrated that Graph-based Detection (GD), Similarity-based Detection (SMD), Shape-based Detection (SPD), Entropy-based Detection (ETD), and Machine Learning-based Detection (MLD) yielded inferior results on this scheme, which substantiates the assertion that BlockWhisper possesses a strong ability to evade detection. Moreover, a comparison of BlockWhisper with other schemes reveals that it has a superior channel capacity on the basis of the guarantee of channel feasibility. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Feature selection helps eradicate redundant features which is essential to mitigate the curse of dimensionality when a machine-learning model deals with high-dimensional datasets. Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) is a swarm-based algorithm that simulates the wolves’ hunting behavior. Although very efficient, GWO faces some limitations which may cause premature convergence and/or local optima trapping. Moreover, GWO relies mainly on the three best wolves, limiting its potential for diverse exploration and exploitation. This work proposes an improved version of GWO namely, a modified grey wolf optimizer with multi-solution crossover integration (MGWO-MCI) algorithm. MGWO-MCI algorithm incorporates a multi-solution strategy that evolves new potential solutions in the optimization process. A crossover operation is performed between the new wolves and the existing hierarchy, reforming the position-updating process. MGWO-MCI utilizes this position-updating process using two different approaches. The first approach named MGWO-MCI-I expands the additional wolves’ role to both exploration and exploitation whereas the second approach named MGWO-MCI-II incorporates their role to exploration only. These approaches are evaluated and tested using 18 datasets and an Intrusion detection dataset NSL-KDD for feature selection. Statistically, the results are analyzed through the Wilcoxon test, which shows the superiority of MGWO-MCI-II. MGWO-MCI-II outperforms others with an accuracy of 98.6% on NSL-KDD and achieves 55.5% overall best outcomes on other datasets. Moreover, the MGWO-MCI was evaluated on two constrained optimization problems, the pressure vessel and welded beam design validating its effectiveness and adaptability in solving different optimization problems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Deep ensemble learning for gastrointestinal diagnosis using endoscopic image classification

Transfer learning is a valuable tool for the effective assistance of gastroenterologists in the powerful diagnosis of medical images with fast convergence. It also intends to minimize the time and estimated effort required for improved gastrointestinal tract (GIT) diagnosis. GIT abnormalities are widely known to be fatal disorders leading to significant mortalities. It includes both upper and lower GIT disorders. The challenges of addressing GIT issues are complex and need significant study. Multiple challenges exist regarding computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) and endoscopy including a lack of annotated images, dark backgrounds, less contrast, noisy backgrounds, and irregular patterns. Deep learning and transfer learning have assisted gastroenterologists in effective diagnosis in various ways. The goal of proposed framework is the effective classification of endoscopic GIT images with enhanced accuracy. The proposed research aims to formulate a transfer learning-based deep ensemble model, accurately classifying GIT disorders for therapeutic purposes. The proposed model is based on weighted voting ensemble of the two state-of-the-art (STA) base models, NasNet-Mobile and EfficientNet. The extraction of regions of interest, specifically the sick portions, have been performed using images captured from endoscopic procedure. Performance evaluation of the proposed model is performed with cross-dataset evaluation. The datasets utilized include the training dataset HyperKvasir and two test datasets, Kvasir v1 and Kvasir v2. However, the dataset alone cannot create a robust model due to the unequal distribution of images across categories, making transfer learning a promising approach for model development. The evaluation of the proposed framework has been conducted by cross-dataset evaluation utilizing accuracy, precision, recall, Area under curve (AUC) score and F1 score performance metrics. Numerous diverse learning materials can be found on e-learning sites. Students in today's e-learning platforms invest a lot of time and energy in locating pertinent learning materials. The student's actual requirements must be taken into account based on a variety of characteristics, including choices, expertise, and learning style. Education must be pertinent to the necessary concept's environment. This study aims to develop an efficient approach for detecting e-learning style and then customizing the e-learning contents to match that style, using machine learning (ML) algorithms to enhance personalization in e-learning. The blended ensemble method combined with the XGBoost meta-learning approach produced the most prominent results for enhancing e-learning style, with an accuracy of 97.6%. Further, the textual material of the e-files is altered using various natural language processing (NLP) approaches. The spaCy NLP-oriented labeled entity identification (LEI) algorithm achieves a 94.2% F1 value and a 0.92 precise match ratio while color-coded textual production of 10 e-files with 790 different phrases. These alterations are intended to suit students' tastes, resulting in an additional personalized and interactive teaching encounter. © 2025 IEEE.

In video compression, motion estimation and motion compensation are critical for achieving efficient encoding. Although the commonly used SpyNet and bilinear interpolation have contributed in improving the compression efficiency, they still have limitations. SpyNet often loses details and fails to fully utilize the feature extraction capabilities of deep networks. Furthermore, bilinear interpolation inherently attenuates high-frequency information, leading to frame blurring and distortion. In this paper, we propose a novel video compression algorithm. To overcome the limitations of SpyNet, we propose a refined adaptive flow pyramid network. This network uses a multi-scale feature pyramid to capture more details. Moreover, we use an iterative cost volume refinement engine that improves the feature representation of the network and iteratively improve the accuracy of motion estimation. In addition, to overcome the limitation of bilinear interpolation, we propose a coordinate-aware attention module, which captures more high-frequency information to improve the accuracy of motion compensation. Experimental results show that our method outperforms VTM-13.2 (LDP) in terms of PSNR. © 2025 IEEE.

Link prediction is a central downstream assignment in network analysis, which denotes an attempt to assess the probability of a connection between two nodes based on observed link and node properties, which can be utilized across diverse categories of graph system, including knowledge graphs, network traffic, social networks, biological networks, etc. Heterogeneous networks usually contain diverse nodes and a variety of edges’ type, which can preserve more information than homogeneous information networks. However, the majority of researches focus on graph representation analysis of homogeneous networks. Limited research has systematically reviewed advanced techniques for link prediction and applications on Heterogeneous Information Networks (HIN). Building upon this, we propose a classification summary for link prediction methods in heterogeneous information graphs. We will introduce some classical methods and some newly proposed methods for link prediction on heterogeneous graphs. We provide general technical ideas behind each method in classes and analysis performance of models. We further discuss the applications of link prediction on complex heterogeneous graphs across various domains. Additionally, the research challenges are discussed, and several possible research avenues for link prediction on heterogeneous network are pointed out. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) has significantly transformed various sectors of society, compelling enterprises to undertake comprehensive digital transformations to remain competitive in the AI era. This paper introduces COSIS, an AI-enabled digital trans-formation framework comprising five key dimensions: Culture, Operation, Strategy, Innovation, and Service. The COSIS framework provides a structured approach for enterprises to navigate the complexities of digital transformation by integrating AI and LLM technologies into their core functions. For each dimension, the paper identifies specific key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of AI-enabled transformations. These KPIs enable enterprises to quantitatively assess progress and outcomes, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and facilitating continuous improvement.
