Enhancing Skin Disease Diagnosis: Light GBM-DMS Algorithm for Accurate Image Classification

Globally, skin diseases are emerging as the most common health problem. It initiates depressive disorder, and it also causes physical health distress. It rarely led to skin cancer in extreme cases. Diagnosing skin disease is subjective and time-consuming when it is performed by health experts manually. Hence, automatic skin disease prediction is required by both dermatologists and patients to enhance and accelerate treatment plans. Even though many machine-learning techniques are available to detect skin diseases, the timely prediction and accurate classification of skin lesions are still in demand. Hence, the Discrete Mycorrhizal Search Algorithm is used to optimize the novel LightGBM to meet this objective. Firstly, intrusions like noise elimination and hair removal are performed and then the image resizing takes place by utilizing the preprocessing pipelines. Subsequent to data pre-processing, the prime features are extracted using the convolutional self-attention based L2 regularization, thus minimizing the data complexity. At last, the extracted features are shifted to the final categorization phase which is done by the novel approach for effective classification of skin diseases. Two skin disease classification images, including datasets, the Skin Lesions Dermatoscopic Image dataset and Skin Cancer MNIST HAM10000, are selected to validate the classification performance. Comprehensive analyses are performed with significant measures that showed the proposed model attained better performances of 98.6%, 0.95, and 10.43 s from accuracy, intersection of union, and execution time, respectively. The stability and robustness under different environmental conditions for clinical applications in skin disease detection and classification tasks are analyzed for making decisions in real-time scenarios. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Diabetes is a common disease that causes complications in the eyes known as Diabetic Retinopathy (DR). It aids in discovering the DR and tends to be the main cause behind people’s blindness amidst the previous decades. For prevent the complications of DR and to control the level of blood Glucose, the timely and crucial diagnosis is essential. A model is provided for detecting the DR. Here, Light Spectrum Tasmanian Devil Optimization (LSTDO) is utilized with SpinalNet for DR detection. The method undergoes an adaptive median filter and Region of interest mining process to generate a pre-processed image. The Sparse Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) is adapted for segmenting the optic disks followed by feature extraction. Then, the Hough line transformation with Tyler Coye algorithm (HLTCA) is used for blood vessel segmentation. Concurrently, the Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) is adapted to input image to overwhelm the deficiency of translation-invariance issue and then the feature mining is done. The feature vector is generated by unifying the outputs of the three-feature extraction phases and is employed to detect DR. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity obtained by the LSTDO-based SpinalNet are 91.6%, 89.9% and 92.1%, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Multimodal Fusion for Android Malware Detection Based on Large Pre-Trained Models

Malware detection is a critical issue in software engineering as it directly threatens user information security. Existing approaches often focus on individual modality (either source code or binary code) for the detection, but it ignores to effectively exploit the complementary information between them. This limits the detection performance, especially in complex and evasive malware scenarios. In this paper, we take Android applications written in Java as objects, and provide a novel fine-grained multimodal fusion method with large pre-trained models to combine the features from source and binary codes for the malware detection. For the source code modality, we employ the graphical user interface (GUI) as a framework to segment the source code into snippets, and use a pre-trained programming language model to extract feature representations. For the binary code modality, we convert binary code into grayscale images and fine-tune a pre-trained vision model to extract features indirectly. We then implement cross-modal attention and devise a contrastive loss to align features across modalities, supplementing this with supervised classification loss to refine the multimodal fusion process specifically for malware detection. Our experiments, conducted using the Data-MD and Data-MC benchmarks, demonstrate that our approach achieves a precision of 0.977 and a recall of 0.984 in detecting malware. This underscores the advantages of using large pre-trained models for feature representation and the fusion of information across different modalities for effective malware detection. © 1976-2012 IEEE.

Security to text (S2T): multi-layered based security approaches for secret text content

In the digital world, text data is produced in an unstructured manner across various communication channels. Extracting valuable information from such data with security is crucial and requires the development of techniques in text mining, information retrieval, and natural language processing (NLP). To solve this issue, we introduce two novel approaches: keyword extraction (KE) and a multi-layered secret sharing scheme (MLSS) to provide security to extracted keywords rather than overall text documents. The KE approach encompasses a sequence of text pre-processing procedures, including tokenization, stopword removal, stemming, and bag of words representation, followed by indexing. This methodology aims to efficiently extract keywords from text datasets. For this research work, we have proposed three datasets, including text messages, whatsapp messages, and electronic mail. MLSS enhances the security of extracted textual data by leveraging text pre-processing steps. This scheme ensures better confidentiality and the non-revealment of sensitive information. Additionally, we evaluate our KE model on our dataset as well as on standard datasets. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed security to text (S2T) model, which outperform existing state-of-the-art approaches. Artificial intelligence-inspired comprehensive framework for desertification prediction

Desertification greatly affects land deterioration, farming efficiency, economic growth, and health, especially in Gulf nations. Climate change has worsened desertification, making developmental issues in the area even more difficult. This research presents an enhanced framework utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) for ongoing monitoring, data gathering, and analysis to evaluate desertification patterns. The framework utilizes Bayesian Belief Networks (BBN) to categorize IoT data, while a low-latency processing method on edge computing platforms enables effective detection of desertification trends. The classified data is subsequently analyzed using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) optimized with a Genetic Algorithm (GA) for forecasting decisions. Using cloud computing infrastructure, the ANN-GA model examines intricate data connections to forecast desertification risk elements. Moreover, the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model is employed to predict desertification over varied time intervals. Experimental simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the suggested framework, attaining enhanced performance in essential metrics: Temporal Delay (103.68 s), Classification Efficacy—Sensitivity (96.44 %), Precision (95.56 %), Specificity (96.97 %), and F-Measure (96.69 %)—Predictive Efficiency—Accuracy (97.76 %) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) (1.95 %)—along with Reliability (93.73 %) and Stability (75 %). The results of classification effectiveness and prediction performance emphasize the framework's ability to detect high-risk zones and predict the severity of desertification. This innovative method improves the comprehension of desertification processes and encourages sustainable land management practices, reducing the socio-economic impacts of desertification and bolstering at-risk ecosystems. Successive Interference Cancellation-Enabled Timely Status Update in Linear Multi-Hop Wireless Networks

We investigate the timely status update in linear multi-hop wireless networks, where a source tries to deliver status update packets to a destination through a sequence of half-duplex relays. Timeliness is measured by the age of information (AoI) metric. Maintaining a low AoI at the destination typically necessitates frequent transmission of update packets from the source. However, high packet transmission frequency in multi-hop scenarios can result in mutual wireless interference at intermediate relays. Specifically, when an intermediate relay receives wireless signals of a new packet from its previous node, simultaneous transmission of an old packet by its subsequent node to the next hop may cause wireless signals to interfere at the intermediate relay, conventionally leading to packet collision. A key motivation to solve this issue is that the intermediate relay has previously received the old packet (which can thus be forwarded to the subsequent node for further relaying). Hence, successive interference cancellation (SIC) can be employed to mitigate interference of the old packet and recover the new packet. This paper designs an SIC-enabled packet relaying scheme tailored to low AoI. Initially focusing on a three-hop network, we subsequently extend our approach to general multi-hop networks. We model the multi-hop relaying scheme using a Markov chain to derive the theoretical average AoI. Theoretical and simulation results indicate that the SIC-enabled packet relaying scheme significantly reduces the average AoI compared to the non-SIC approaches, owing to an increased packet transmission frequency at the source and the effectiveness of SIC techniques at the relays. © 2002-2012 IEEE.
