Coarse-to-fine lightweight meta-embedding for ID-based recommendations

State-of-the-art recommender systems are increasingly focused on optimizing implementation efficiency, such as enabling on-device recommendations under memory constraints. Current methods commonly use lightweight embeddings for users and items or employ compact embeddings to enhance reusability and reduce memory usage. However, these approaches consider only the coarse-grained aspects of embeddings, overlooking subtle semantic nuances. This limitation results in an adversarial degradation of meta-embedding performance, impeding the system's ability to capture intricate relationships between users and items, leading to suboptimal recommendations. To address this, we propose a novel approach to efficiently learn meta-embeddings with varying grained and apply fine-grained meta-embeddings to strengthen the representation of their coarse-grained counterparts. Specifically, we introduce a recommender system based on a graph neural network, where each user and item is represented as a node. These nodes are directly connected to coarse-grained virtual nodes and indirectly linked to fine-grained virtual nodes, facilitating learning of multi-grained semantics. Fine-grained semantics are captured through sparse meta-embeddings, which dynamically balance embedding uniqueness and memory constraints. To ensure their sparseness, we rely on initialization methods such as sparse principal component analysis combined with a soft thresholding activation function. Moreover, we propose a weight-bridging update strategy that aligns coarse-grained meta-embedding with several fine-grained meta-embeddings based on the underlying semantic properties of users and items. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing baselines. The code of our proposal is available at https://***/htyjers/C2F-MetaEmbed.

A Weakly-Supervised Crowd Density Estimation Method Based on Two-Stage Linear Feature Calibration

In a crowd density estimation dataset,the annotation of crowd locations is an extremely laborious task,and they are not taken into the evaluation *** this paper,we aim to reduce the annotation cost of crowd datasets,and propose a crowd density estimation method based on weakly-supervised learning,in the absence of crowd position supervision information,which directly reduces the number of crowds by using the number of pedestrians in the image as the supervised *** this purpose,we design a new training method,which exploits the correlation between global and local image features by incremental learning to train the ***,we design a parent-child network(PC-Net)focusing on the global and local image respectively,and propose a linear feature calibration structure to train the PC-Net simultaneously,and the child network learns feature transfer factors and feature bias weights,and uses the transfer factors and bias weights to linearly feature calibrate the features extracted from the Parent network,to improve the convergence of the network by using local features hidden in the crowd *** addition,we use the pyramid vision transformer as the backbone of the PC-Net to extract crowd features at different levels,and design a global-local feature loss function(L2).We combine it with a crowd counting loss(LC)to enhance the sensitivity of the network to crowd features during the training process,which effectively improves the accuracy of crowd density *** experimental results show that the PC-Net significantly reduces the gap between fullysupervised and weakly-supervised crowd density estimation,and outperforms the comparison methods on five datasets of Shanghai Tech Part A,ShanghaiTech Part B,UCF_CC_50,UCF_QNRF and JHU-CROWD++.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a promising technique to increase spectral efficiency and support various emerging applications by sharing the spectrum and hardware between these functionalities. However, the traditional ISAC schemes are highly dependent on the accurate mathematical model and suffer from the challenges of high complexity and poor performance in practical scenarios. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a viable technique to address these issues due to its powerful learning capabilities, satisfactory generalization capability, fast inference speed, and high adaptability for dynamic environments, facilitating a system design shift from model-driven to data-driven. Intelligent ISAC, which integrates AI into ISAC, has been a hot topic that has attracted many researchers to investigate. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of intelligent ISAC, including its motivation, typical applications, recent trends, and challenges. In particular, we first introduce the basic principle of ISAC, followed by its key techniques. Then, an overview of AI and a comparison between model-based and AI-based methods for ISAC are provided. Furthermore, the typical applications of AI in ISAC and the recent trends for AI-enabled ISAC are reviewed. Finally, the future research issues and challenges of intelligent ISAC are discussed.

Enhancing User Experience in AI-Powered Human-computer Communication with Vocal Emotions Identification Using a Novel Deep Learning Method

Voice, motion, and mimicry are naturalistic control modalities that have replaced text or display-driven control in human-computer communication (HCC). Specifically, the vocals contain a lot of knowledge, revealing details about the speaker’s goals and desires, as well as their internal condition. Certain vocal characteristics reveal the speaker’s mood, intention, and motivation, while word study assists the speaker’s demand to be understood. Voice emotion recognition has become an essential component of modern HCC networks. Integrating findings from the various disciplines involved in identifying vocal emotions is also challenging. Many sound analysis techniques were developed in the past. Learning about the development of artificial intelligence (AI), and especially Deep Learning (DL) technology, research incorporating real data is becoming increasingly common these days. Thus, this research presents a novel selfish herd optimization-tuned long/short-term memory (SHO-LSTM) strategy to identify vocal emotions in human communication. The RAVDESS public dataset is used to train the suggested SHO-LSTM technique. Mel-frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) and wiener filter (WF) techniques are used, respectively, to remove noise and extract features from the data. LSTM and SHO are applied to the extracted data to optimize the LSTM network’s parameters for effective emotion recognition. Python Software was used to execute our proposed framework. In the finding assessment phase, Numerous metrics are used to evaluate the proposed model’s detection capability, Such as F1-score (95%), precision (95%), recall (96%), and accuracy (97%). The suggested approach is tested on a Python platform, and the SHO-LSTM’s outcomes are contrasted with those of other previously conducted research. Based on comparative assessments, our suggested approach outperforms the current approaches in vocal emotion recognition.

Semi-Supervised Multi-Task Deep Learning for WiFi Fingerprint Database Construction in Building-Scale Localization

WiFi-based indoor positioning has emerged as a crucial technology for enabling smart consumer electronic applications, particularly in large-scale buildings. The construction of WiFi fingerprint databases using received signal strength (RSS) is foundational due to its widespread deployment. However, achieving high positioning accuracy typically requires labor-intensive and time-consuming site surveys. While recent crowdsourcing methods have facilitated the collection of numerous RSS samples, these samples frequently lack labels and reliability in multi-scale building *** this paper, we design a novel semi-supervised and multi-task mean-teacher model (MTMT-DNN) to annotate crowdsourcing unlabeled multi-scale fingerprint samples. This method enables the construction of a comprehensive fingerprint database without requiring intensive manual effort or compromising positioning accuracy. Our key idea is to first develop a multi-task Deep Neural Network (MT-DNN) for simultaneously annotating building, floor, and intra-floor coordinate labels by leveraging their complementary information. Then we employ the mean-teacher semi-supervised learning to leverage additional unlabeled fingerprint data for further improving the annotating performance and reducing intensive manual effort. Finally, we train the MTMT-DNN model by developing two multi-task loss functions and ensuring consistency between them, thereby enhancing the reliability of the annotated crowdsourced fingerprints. We conducted real-world experiments in a 20,000 m2 site encompassing three multi-story buildings. The results demonstrate that our proposed method significantly reduces the workload of manually collecting labeled fingerprint samples. With only 20% of labeled fingerprints collected, we achieve 99% average annotation accuracy for building and floor labels and an average coordinates annotation error within 4 m. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Drug-Target Interactions Prediction Based on Signed Heterogeneous Graph Neural Networks

Drug-target interactions(DTIs) prediction plays an important role in the process of drug *** computational methods treat it as a binary prediction problem, determining whether there are connections between drugs and targets while ignoring relational types information. Considering the positive or negative effects of DTIs will facilitate the study on comprehensive mechanisms of multiple drugs on a common target, in this work, we model DTIs on signed heterogeneous networks, through categorizing interaction patterns of DTIs and additionally extracting interactions within drug pairs and target protein pairs. We propose signed heterogeneous graph neural networks(SHGNNs), further put forward an end-to-end framework for signed DTIs prediction, called SHGNN-DTI,which not only adapts to signed bipartite networks, but also could naturally incorporate auxiliary information from drug-drug interactions(DDIs) and protein-protein interactions(PPIs). For the framework, we solve the message passing and aggregation problem on signed DTI networks, and consider different training modes on the whole networks consisting of DTIs, DDIs and PPIs. Experiments are conducted on two datasets extracted from Drug Bank and related databases, under different settings of initial inputs, embedding dimensions and training modes. The prediction results show excellent performance in terms of metric indicators, and the feasibility is further verified by the case study with two drugs on breast cancer.

Steganography is a technique for hiding secret messages while sending and receiving communications through a cover *** ancient times to the present,the security of secret or vital information has always been a significant *** development of secure communication methods that keep recipient-only data transmissions secret has always been an area of ***,several approaches,including steganography,have been developed by researchers over time to enable safe data *** this review,we have discussed image steganography based on Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT)algorithm,*** have also discussed image steganography based on multiple hashing algorithms like the Rivest–Shamir–Adleman(RSA)method,the Blowfish technique,and the hash-least significant bit(LSB)*** this review,a novel method of hiding information in images has been developed with minimal variance in image bits,making our method secure and effective.A cryptography mechanism was also used in this *** encoding the data and embedding it into a carry image,this review verifies that it has been ***,embedded text in photos conveys crucial signals about the *** review employs hash table encryption on the message before hiding it within the picture to provide a more secure method of data *** the message is ever intercepted by a third party,there are several ways to stop this operation.A second level of security process implementation involves encrypting and decrypting steganography images using different hashing algorithms.

Temporal-spectral correlation dynamics of Raman random fiber laser

Raman random fiber laser(RRFL) possesses rich physical properties of spectral, temporal, and spatial domains due to its unique feedback mechanism and complex nonlinear effects. Characterizing and controlling the microscopic evolution dynamics of RRFL are crucial to driving breakthrough advances in fields such as inertial confinement fusion and fundamental physics. In this work, a novel experimental and theoretical analysis of the evolution of the temporal spectral correlations of the RRFL in the transition and steady states is conducted. In the transitional state, the microscopic dynamics of the RRFL excitation process is revealed comprehensively: the temporal-correlation growth curve contrasts with that of resonant-cavity lasers, and the formation and degradation of spectral correlation are observed. In the steady state, the overall spectrum is characterized by partial correlation, and the correlation characteristics of RRFL mainly originate from the spectral random spikes, which offers a novel dimension for the precise control of RRFL correlation. This work provides new insights into underlying physical properties of continuous broadband lasers, offering key guidance for laser design, control, and applications.

Monitoring COVID-19 environment: a real-time facial mask detection using YOLO models

Purpose: The rapid spread of COVID-19 has resulted in significant harm and impacted tens of millions of people globally. In order to prevent the transmission of the virus, individuals often wear masks as a protective measure for themselves and others. Coronavirus protection guidelines have been published by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO standards, COVID-19 can be prevented by wearing a mask in public places and congested regions. In these places, it is very difficult to personally check to see if people are wearing face masks or not. Methods: The objective of this research work is to build a powerful, efficient, and real-time approach for detecting people not wearing masks. Three cutting-edge object identification models, namely YOLOv4, Tiny-YOLOv4, and YOLOv5, are employed in this study for the identification of masked faces. Result: The proposed YOLOv5 model is evaluated using real-time images captured using a smartphone or tablet. The test images include both single and multiple people with and without masks. The YOLOv5 model achieved recognition accuracy of 88.90% with an average detection speed of 0.0316 s per image, whereas the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4 produced recognition accuracy of 82.24% and 74.80% with an average detection speed of 0.0530 s and 0.0541 s per image, respectively. Conclusion: The comparative performance suggests that the YOLOv5 model has a maximum recognition accuracy of 88.90% in face mask identification tasks compared to other models such as the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Brazilian Society of Biomedical engineering 2025.
