In this paper we investigate a new type of configuration of master-slave system, namely a heterogeneous constrained master-slave system which consists of a holonomically constrained master system and a non-holonomically constrained slave system. As a concrete example of the heterogeneous constrained master-slave system, we consider a three wheel cart as the slave system and an actuated joy-stick as the master system, and a coordination method of the system and human operator, with which an internal state of the input-output, linearized slave system is kept small, is discussed. The coordination is realized as a fictitious force which the human operator can feel through the master system. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by experimental results.

An analogy is described between the TLM algorithm and discrete state-space control theory. The analogy is used to derive the characteristic equations corresponding to parameterized model structures. Characteristic equations corresponding to several widely used node structures are derived by this means and found to be consistent with the observed behaviour of corresponding TLM models. An example is given of the use of the analogy in the predictive mode.

In this article a multimedia computer-assisted learning (MCAL) system is presented. The major objective of this work was to investigate the potential of using such systems as tools for transferring instructional course information through various types of computer media as opposed to the classic CAL systems. The philosophy and techniques employed to design the system are investigated. Usage of the implemented system and its merits have been illustrated through its application to teach engineering students and technicians the theory and concepts of marine radar. System design, implementation, test, and revision phases are presented and discussed.

These problems are reformulated as infinite dimensional stochastic problems having full information, with state of the Zakai equation for the integral cost, and the information state for the exponential-of-integral cost. The fuzzy sequential circuit and its learning algorithm are proposed. The circuit consists of the weight-added fuzzy flip-flops. The weight-added fuzzy flip-flop is constructed by weight-added AND/OR elements. To illustrate the modeling process of the fuzzy sequential circuit, the circuit is applied to part of a small economic model. In this example, each economical variable corresponds to the weight-added fuzzy flip-flop identically, and the relationships of cause and effect are realized by supplementary using of the ordinary AND/OR elements. The topology of fuzzy sequential circuit is defined by the relationships of cause and effect.
