Adversarial multi-image steganography via texture evaluation and multi-scale image enhancement

Multi-image steganography refers to a data-hiding scheme where a user tries to hide confidential messages within multiple images. Different from the traditional steganography which only requires the security of an individual image, multi-image steganography considers an overall security for a batch of images. However, existing multi-image steganography all faces a nontrivial problem: how to optimally allocate payload into multiple images to guarantee the security of batch images. To address this problem, this paper proposes an adversarial multi-image steganographic scheme. A multi-scale texture evaluation mechanism is firstly calculated to determine the embeddable cover images. Subsequently, a series of multi-scale filters are introduced to enhance the image content, which can be used to guide the optimal payload assignment of each image. Furthermore, an adversarial embedding mechanism is designed by dynamically adjusting the random gradient mapping of batch images, and finally achieving secure multi-image steganography. Our proposed scheme can optimize the overall steganographic security performance of multiple images, while ensuring the anti-steganalysis capability of a single image. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our scheme can achieve superior performance for multi-image steganography over different large-scale image sets, and outperforms state-of-the art schemes in terms of both single-image and multi-image anti-steganalysis capability. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Quadratic and Lagrange interpolation-based butterfly optimization algorithm for numerical optimization and engineering design problem

This work proposes a novel and improved Butterfly Optimization Algorithm (BOA), known as LQBOA, to solve BOA’s inherent limitations. The LQBOA uses Lagrange interpolation and simple quadratic interpolation techniques with adapted parameter settings to enhance the search strategy of BOA and to achieve a better balance of diversification and intensification. LQBOA’s performance was examined on 45 traditional benchmark issues as well as the IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark suites with 10, 30 and 50 dimensions, and the results were compared against popular state-of-the-art and modified algorithms. It was discovered that in more than 85% of cases, the proposed LQBOA outperformed the compared algorithms. The Friedman rank test and Wilcoxon rank test were used to validate the suggested LQBOA’s rank and significance. Additionally, convergence and diversity analyses were performed to investigate its convergence speed and searching behavior, respectively. Furthermore, LQBOA has been successfully deployed to solve twelve real-world issues including several engineering design problems and two multiple gravity assist spacecraft trajectory problems. The results of these problems were compared to those of a wide range of algorithms, demonstrating the superior performance of the proposed LQBOA. In conclusion, LQBOA makes a significant addition to the optimization area, and its application could greatly improve the performance of numerous optimization jobs. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Abnormal event detection in video surveillance is critical for security, traffic management, and industrial monitoring applications. This paper introduces an innovative methodology for anomaly detection in video data, encompassing three primary stages: preprocessing, feature learning, and anomaly detection. We employ background subtraction and noise reduction during preprocessing to refine the data. The feature-learning stage involves training an LSTM autoencoder to capture the essential features of normal video sequences. For anomaly detection, we map video data to a lower-dimensional space (latent code) and compare it against the distribution of codes from normal sequences. We determine regularity scores and identify local minima points exceeding a specified threshold while scrutinizing shadows between adjacent maxima to confirm and pinpoint anomalies. When tested on the CUHK Avenue and UMN datasets, our methodology demonstrated performance with AUCs of 93.8% and 94.1%, respectively, outperforming several baseline models. Our results show the high precision of our method that can detect anomalies, highlighting its potential advantages that it can achieve for enhancing systems of surveillance. © The Author(s) 2025.

Sample-based relationship for assisting diagnosis of pneumonia in medical care

Deep neural networks have succeeded in learning balanced and imbalanced data in the field of pneumonia diagnosis. However, both require separate model designs in their respective domains. The pneumonia recognition methods have poor transfer performance between the two types of image distribution data. This paper proposes BeFormer, which focuses on sample relationships. BeFormer introduces two stages, feature extraction and establishing sample relationships, to solve the problem. Specifically, in the feature extraction stage, a new backbone network called PANet based on Multi-Scale Frequency Domain Attention (FPSA) is proposed. In establishing sample relationships, Deformable Transformer is used in parallel to model the relationships between partial regions of interest among the same and different samples in the pneumonia dataset. These two modules are connected in series to form BeFormer. Without making any changes to the model, this paper conducted experiments using BeFormer on both balanced and imbalanced pneumonia datasets. As compared to traditional pneumonia recognition models, the proposed method achieved significant improvements in the two different data distributions, demonstrating outstanding transfer performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

This systematic review gave special attention to diabetes and the advancements in food and nutrition needed to prevent or manage diabetes in all its forms. There are two main forms of diabetes mellitus: Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 (T2D). The loss of beta cells brought on by an autoimmune reaction causes the pancreas to be unable to produce enough insulin, which leads to Type 1 diabetes. A deficiency of insulin could arise as the illness worsens. The most frequent cause is a combination of excessive body weight and inadequate exercise. Currently, 90–95% of patients have Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Age-specific normal blood sugar ranges exist and knowing them is crucial for determining a target blood sugar level that is both healthy and appropriate. The main takeaway is that diet regimens ought to be tailored to the patient’s requirements and should account for their capacity for change. Carbohydrates are the nutrients that have the biggest impact on the rise in blood glucose. In this paper, we have proposed a novel method for glucose monitoring and diet recommendations for diabetic patients using fog computing. A paradigm known as fog computing makes use of the benefits that come from using both cloud and edge devices to support modern computing systems by offering high-quality services, cutting latency, facilitating mobility, supporting multi-tenancy, and many other features. © 2025 by Begell House, Inc.

A Digital Twin and Consensus Empowered Cooperative Control Framework for Platoon-Based Autonomous Driving

Lower back pain is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is experienced by a huge percentage of people *** to its ability to produce a detailed view of the soft tissues,including the spinal cord,nerves,intervertebral discs,and vertebrae,Magnetic Resonance Imaging is thought to be the most effective method for imaging the *** semantic segmentation of vertebrae plays a major role in the diagnostic process of lumbar *** is difficult to semantically partition the vertebrae in Magnetic Resonance Images from the surrounding variety of tissues,including muscles,ligaments,and intervertebral discs.U-Net is a powerful deep-learning architecture to handle the challenges of medical image analysis tasks and achieves high segmentation *** work proposes a modified U-Net architecture namely MU-Net,consisting of the Meijering convolutional layer that incorporates the Meijering filter to perform the semantic segmentation of lumbar vertebrae L1 to L5 and sacral vertebra ***-colour mask images were generated and used as ground truth for training the *** work has been carried out on 1312 images expanded from T1-weighted mid-sagittal MRI images of 515 patients in the Lumbar Spine MRI Dataset publicly available from Mendeley *** proposed MU-Net model for the semantic segmentation of the lumbar vertebrae gives better performance with 98.79%of pixel accuracy(PA),98.66%of dice similarity coefficient(DSC),97.36%of Jaccard coefficient,and 92.55%mean Intersection over Union(mean IoU)metrics using the mentioned dataset.

The life expectancy of a population is a vital measure of its overall health and healthcare quality. This study use machine learning methods, notably XGBoost, to predict life expectancy in industrialized and emerging countries. XGBoost, or Extreme Gradient Boosting, is a robust machine-learning technique renowned for its precision and efficiency in handling structured data. The objective is to develop a precise prediction model and identify the primary factors influencing life expectancy. The experimental findings indicate that our XGBoost-based model effectively forecasts life expectancy in both industrialized and developing nations. Mean Absolute Error, Mean Squared Error, and R2 score are used for model selection. XGBoost is selected because to its mean squared error of 2.45, mean absolute error of 1.03, and R2 scores of 0.99 for the training set and 0.97 for the testing set. In this a feature significance analysis was conducted to identify the most relevant factors affecting life expectancy. Our results underscore the significance of variables such as HIV/AIDS, income composition, and adult mortality in influencing life expectancy. The model's findings may assist lawmakers and healthcare professionals in making decisions to enhance public health outcomes, allocate resources efficiently, and formulate focused solutions. © 2013 IEEE.

Optimizing Coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks Using the Tumbleweed Algorithm

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have found extensive applications across various fields, significantly enhancing the convenience in our daily lives. Hence, an in-creasing number of researchers are directing their attention toward the performance of sensor nodes, with a particular emphasis on addressing the coverage challenges in WSNs. Node coverage plays a crucial role in determining the detection performance of WSNs, making it imperative to attain maximum coverage with a given number of sensor nodes. This paper applies the Tumbleweed Algorithm (TA) to the coverage problem in WSNs and validates its effectiveness through simulation experiments. The results demonstrate its unique advantages in global search and avoiding local optima, providing a new solution for the WSN coverage problem and offering valuable references for future research and practical applications. The TA algorithm simulates the lifecycle of tumbleweed from seedling to mature plant and includes the concept of growth cycles. This paper compares the TA algorithm with PSO, GWO, DE, BOA, SCA, and AOA, setting different numbers of wireless sensor nodes and varying sensing radii for the experiments. The experimental results show that the TA algorithm significantly improves coverage rates under various configurations and consistently outperforms other commonly used algorithms. © 2025, Taiwan Ubiquitous information CO LTD.
